The Lariat has new owners and a new menu! (Ignore the menu posted in the photos...) The food is super good and very tasty. My husband had the chicken fried steak and said it was better than his favorite place in Texas. I had the chicken green salad and banana cream pie. Both were excellent. The desserts are divine and made from scratch. The staff are top notch too and the owners were very attentive. They serve breakfast, lunch and now dinner. Amazing ! Small home-town dinner with an elevated tasty experience - out of a 5 state area we rate this the best and will make a point to come here just for the food on our next vacation. This place was such a nice surprise. Spacious and clean. Service was excellent! The staff were amiable and very welcoming. I went for lunch. Breakfast is available only until 10:45 AM. The lunch menu is typical diner food--sandwiches, burgers, salads, and soups. I went for the pork chop sandwich, which is fried breaded pork chop on toasted hoagie with lettuce, pickles, and onion, served with a side of tater tots. Great portion! It was so filling that I ended up skipping dinner. The pork chop was really crispy without being greasy. The tater tots were AMAZING! Probably the crispiest tater tots I've ever had, and I don't even need ketchup or any sauce to enjoy it. Even the bread tastes great. Fresh, fluffy, with a slight crispness to it. Small town breakfast joint with food to match. I'm a big brunch fan and love french toast so I ordered the french toast with eggs and a side of bacon. The french toast was dry and not anything special, made with normal sliced bread. The two slices of bacon were past being done and very crunchy almost to the point of being burnt. Even my vegetarian friend commented about how the bacon was cooked. Looking at other photos from reviews, I may have just received a one off but the bacon could have been made much better. The two eggs were nice, done how I had requested, no complaints there. I also tried someone else's hash browns and those were nice! But, the other people I came with also were not impressed with their meals either. Someone had ordered a veggie omelet and another the chicken fried steak. All in all it was a restaurant serving breakfast food and you get what you would expect. read more

The food is perfectly cooked, the environment is clean and pleasant and the wait staff is very attentive and very nice. We are in Hardin visiting from MI on our way to Yellowstone. Quaint little spot a little ways from the fast food choices offered near the interstate highway. This seems to be the morning gathering spot for a lot of locals to chat and have some coffee. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, wheat toast, hash browns and coffee. The coffee was very good, the eggs cooked perfectly, the hash browns were crispy the way I like them. My whole meal came to less than $ 10.00 including the tip. A good breakfast, at a good price, good service and a clean restaurant is what I got. I will be back. read more

We stopped for breakfast on our way from Sturgis SD to Billings Mt. We enjoyed the warm and friendly hometown atmosphere. The food was very good and the service was too. It seems to be the only breakfast between Billings and Buffalo that wasn't a chain so we figured might as well! We have a 55' motorhome so parking can be an issue. Wide streets, tons of parking, easy peasy. Got in too late for breakfast (11 on weekdays). Ordered the Reuben and the patty melt. Fries are true hand cut potatoes with the skins still on. If you're passing through Hardin, you have to stop in. Their meatloaf was not only delicious, but it was a generous serving and super affordable. This is surely a local favorite and a good taste of home cooking. I hate that I'm not in town for a longer period of time to enjoy more off their menu. Found this on Yelp while on our way home to Austin from Yellowstone and didn't want fast food. Looks like a favorite of the locals. Go ahead and walk in and find your table. Super sweet servers and made you feel at home. Overall great food but i probably wouldn't order the french dip again especially with the superstar of the table that my husband ordered- The pork chop sandwich. Fried to perfection-crispy and tender pork. Large serving! My son ordered the Reuben Sandwich and it was so good he didn't share. You can get fries or gems (aka tater tots). French fries are hand cut and we're delicious. The gems were crispy on the outside and still fluffy on the inside. We got milkshakes to go. Excellent but thinner than I prefer but still great flavor and made by hand with a vintage machine. Stop in if you can. read more

I stopped in Hardin on the way west. Found the Lariat country kitchen an saw locals parked out front ,a good sign. Went in an friendly waitress seated us. Got the meatloaf ,mashed potatoes , green beans an salad. Awesome. Best meatloaf I've ever had. $8.95. Then I got the home made apple pie. Scored again. YUMMY stuff! I had a veggie omelet & Carl had the gravy biscuits with eggs; both came with hash browns. Everything was delicious, service was pretty good (could have been better, but I wouldn't say it was "bad"), and prices are reasonable. Unbelievable food! All fresh and large portions. I ordered the Turkey and Bacon sandwich (no bread) with tots and husband ordered the hot roast beef sandwhich with fries. The turkey and roast beef were obviously made in-house and were INCREDIBLE. Lariat Country Kitchen was EXCELLENT! We had breakfast here before we went on our Badlands / Black Hills adventure. There was another customer who chatted with us about traveling the roads and all - great advice! Then we were served breakfast. I had a "senior" breakfast - very inexpensive - and the pancakes were HUGE and so fluffy! Great scrambled eggs and sausages. Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast! My husband had a Denver omelet with hash browns that were perfect - buttery and crisp! The omelet was large and filled with perfectly sauteed veggies! The service was prompt and friendly. Our group of six traveling through to Teddy Roosevelt park ate lunch here today. The burger, club, & French Dip sandwiches were all fresh & tasted great. I will agree with the previous reviewer that I saw the for sale sign in the window, but they were open and busy. I love the homey atmosphere of this restaurant. You can tell it is privately owned. My husband had the taco omelette and It was very good, outstanding. Good flavor and lots of salsa. I had the pancakes, eggs and bacon. Went there for dinners dinner ordered ,brought us our salads but there was no setting so waitress said she we'll get it right away but then stop to take another order from another table while we waited. Good thing the salad didn't get any colder. We paid with credit card and left a good tip 25 percent. After there went to gas up and was looking for credit card and guess what ?
