There a few nice B&B places there and it's accessible to the lakeshore attractions. It was by chance that I wandered down her street and I stayed, talking to her and looking at everything she had painted in the two room studio. She is an abstract artist. I was struck by one of her large acrylics, she told me the story behind its creation and I finally bought it, my first original acrylic! Her work has changed over the years, as do the style or subject matter of most good painters, but I enjoy her eye for color and shape. Check it out, if only just to experience her world and meet a very cool woman.

They carry wearable art, functional art, sculptures, paintings, and photography etc. The price ranges vary so really amazing works can also be attainable. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the works they carry. It's located in an older home converted so it's very cozy and really gives off a great vibe. Paul Henry's Art Gallery is an absolute gem of a place, a credit to northwest Indiana. Most…read morevisitors probably know it for the weekly acoustic open mic on Thursdays, but it also happens to be a wonderful gallery that hosts various artist receptions and other events pretty regularly. The collection is large, and changes frequently enough that if you come back in a month or so you're very likely to see a whole bunch of stuff you haven't seen before. The open mic night is $5 to get in, and also features a pot luck. Bringing food gets you a discount on entry, and being a performer yourself or an exhibiting artist in the gallery gets one, as well. Any combination of two of these criteria means free entry; I play music there fairly regularly, so I pay $3, and it is definitely worth it to support the gallery and enjoy the atmosphere. Coffee and non-alcoholic punch are provided, but it's also BYOB, so if you absolutely must imbibe, you can bring your goodies. Although I've been to the gallery roughly 50 times or so, I always notice something I hadn't seen before. More often than not, the piece had been there the whole time, but there's so much sensory overload going on that it is really easy to miss really wonderful pieces, which makes returning an adventure. The overall atmosphere of the place is perfect, as the building is about a hundred years old and has endless charm. It doesn't hurt that the owner, David Mueller, is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, with strong knowledge and love of art. I'm not actually from Indiana, but businesses like Paul Henry's really make the northwest Indiana region much more appealing. Definitely a huge feather in the cap of the area, and a must visit for anyone who loves art.

Towards the back of the space is, what I consider to be the neatest area. There is a large open space in the back where there is a lot of art. Not only that, but every Thursday night there is an open mike jam that starts at 7:00 pm. It's a really rustic and comfy place. The owner is a real interesting fella and is really nice. It is a local owned business and it is a wonderful thing to support those!

I would really suggest anyone looking to add beauty to their home or office at least stop by Art Post (or visit their website) because what they offer is a wonderful alternative to the outrageous prices and narrow vision of many of the other Chicago area art galleries. Chris and Michael are not at all pushy and genuinely want you to love what you purchase. Every room in my home feels bright and cheerful and makes me smile, largely because of what I've taken home from Art Post in the past two years.

I've been to one gallery after another looking for the perfect painting for my family room. I'm…read morebummed that the hunt for a painting took me so long to visit Art Post Gallery because they have gorgeous work. I spent a lot of time examining the artwork on their website ahead of time and love how they let you search by style, size and other options that makes the art buying process a little easier. I had admired a few paintings on their site, but of course nothing beats seeing something in person. And the same paintings I liked on the site were even better in person. I liked one, Uplifting Light, so much that I asked Chris if she could photoshop it into the room I've been looking for. She said an even better option was to take it home for the weekend. She was also super helpful on what frames would work best and I loved that they could frame the painting right in their store - and she said they could hang it too! I filled out some information, gave her my credit card # and I loaded up my SUV. Turns out SUVs are good for something besides carpooling children around.. Once home I was so excited to see the painting in my family room since I was certain this was the "one." I'm so glad Chris let me try it out because while I loved the painting on it's own it just didn't work in the room- the size was wrong, the colors clashed with the colors in my room, etc. And so a few days later I sadly brought it back and handed it to Michael who was very understanding about the situation. I actually did find another painting at a different gallery over the weekend that I believe is the "one" after trying it out in the room, but I will definitely be back to Art Post Gallery when ready to find art for other rooms in my house.
