Pinoy classics like crinkles are things I don't see in Bread Talk. I could best describe Baker's Fresh as the upscale version of Julie's Bakeshop. It's this bakeshop that sells a wide variety of treats done well using great ingredients. I bought the lemon square and my God was it one of the best lemon squares I have had in a long time. The crust was the right kind of soft and crumbly. The lemon was there, but I could still taste the sugary sweetness and the smooth butter. None of the three dominated my mouth when I took a bite, it was a balance or symphony of different flavors dancing around on my tongue.

I HAVE TO GET GARLIC BREAD FROM BAKERS FRESH. I HAVE TO." And then I raved about how amazing this garlic bread was and they were looking at me like I was completely insane. I've tried a few other breads from Bakers Fresh, of course; they have really solid cookies, brownies, and these square pizza things. But oh god, the Garlic Bread. The Garlic Bread just makes me so insanely happy. It tastes just perfect: soft with a certain odd crunch, just the right amount of garlic (i.e. not horribly overpowering like other garlic breads), and it kind of just melts in your mouth. This might be my favorite bread from a bread shop ever. It's inexplicable that I'd like this specific garlic bread from this specific store so much, but it's like instantaneously crave garlic bread the moment I even get near Shang. I think it's like a weird association my brain made. But this garlic bread is just, wow. Next time you go to Shang, go here. It will change your life, as it has changed mine.

I would've grabbed a couple more of that if I weren't going to grub some more haha. They have their bake goods/pastries on sale, 30%-off after 9pm. The Mussel soup tasted really good; it was creamy and flavorful, but not too "malansa". Their Beef Flakes were also exceptional. The slices of tomatoes and egg salad went perfectly with the whole dish. For me, the best thing about this place is their quick serving time. It only took the service crew 15 minutes to prepare our dishes, despite the number of customers present during that time. This place gets a perfect score from me.

There were prices on the menu so we actually allowed ourselves to splurge some money for breakfast trusting that the recipes will give justice to the price. We appreciated how they try to incorporate native Filipino dishes on their menu, but after eating, I personally think that it's too pricey for the quality and the amount of food served. I am no chef, but I cook and I trust my taste. What we had is something that I can also do in my kitchen, so I don't think it is worth the price. For those with a sweet tooth, cravings will be satisfied with eclairs, Danish pastries, Viennese cookies, and fruit tarts. For me though, there are only two reasons why I like this shop - One, they have Financiers (light and small French cake) and two, their Kouign Amman (a round Breton cake that looks like a crusty cinnamon roll but made of croissant dough) has the right sweetness and perfect buttery taste. By the way, if you are curious about how to pronounce Kouign Amman, just think of royalty as it sounds like 'queen ah man'.
