Unless you can't see the Tiger Woods for the trees, you will know that on the edge of Sutton Coldfield lies internationally-renowned golf venue, The Belfry.
You will also know, as befits a venue of its standing, that experiences beyond swinging a club are on offer, notably drinking and dining. Among several individual venues within the wider venue, The French Grill is the higher-end restaurant destination.
You can imagine what's available from the name, so there's not much point going into the menu by detail for what are traditional courses, suffice to say a range of steak cuts (the signature dishes here), lamb and pork are on offer, along with fish including lobster and monkfish. Yet while the menu can change, you may be harder pushed to find a choice of poultry - few birdies on this course.
A main course sets you back approximately £20, but you can expect to pay more for usual suspects such as a fillet cut and, especially in land-locked Brum, half a grilled crustacean. Two to three vegetarian options are normally available. Bottles of wine range from £20 to £45, although the venue also has its own bar.
As perhaps reflected in the relatively affordable prices, The French Grill, while well-presented, and some may say elegant, is not stuffy and you'll soon be relaxing and able to enjoy a golf course view.
It is open from 7pm, Tuesday to Saturday. read more
