But if you're in or around Castroville - I'd tell you to go to Octane Coffee. Found them on Yelp this morning. They are tough to find. As a matter of fact, when I pulled up to their current location I literally said aloud in my car..."Is this a joke? - this is a winery." But after a short investigation, I did indeed find good coffee. I spent about an hour hanging out with the owner and his mother. We were the only ones in the place. They were both incredibly friendly. The Hazelnut latte I ordered was just hot enough, had four shots in it, and was very good. Plus - they had wifi :) I even bought a bag of coffee the owner recommended. I was sorry to hear the story about their current location, though. Seems they used to be "downtown Castroville", but the landlord kept raising their rent, and he could only roast his coffee beans during certain times, etc. Sad when local business are pushed out for almighty dollar.... Anyway - They moved to this current location, which, I'll be honest, is not the most convenient - but it gives the owner a chance to do his deal! Wishing them all the best! I say well trained because sometimes you forget to add things to your order and when the staff can notice that and ask follow up questions that remind you that you missed something it's always a sign of good training. The shop is made from an old gas station that was converted into a cafe. They serve pastries along with a wide range of coffee beverages. I always find myself drawn to their seasonal drinks, which are usually themed around something fun. This year's holiday menu was Ice Age themed, but I remember last year being Shrek themed, and I think there was even a Top Gun themed menu at some point over the summer. For the Ice Age menu, I got a Manny which was a Chocolate Orange Mocha drink. I got it hot and it was great! The space inside is quiet, nice, and well lit. It's a great place to get work done. In the past, I've noticed the wifi could be tragically slow, which made some tasks difficult. During my most recent visit, though, I don't recall the wifi being slow at all, so it seems like that issue has been fixed. There is also plenty of outdoor seating if you get lucky with one of the three nice weather days in San Antonio. I really like the coffee here. For such a small shop, they do a great job, and it has become an essential stop for me every time I am in Castroville. A table of 20+ walked in 25 min after us They were served food ordered delivered and ate and we still have not received food. They paid and still no food!! We complained apparently no manager on duty. Then told the reason they were served first was because the waitress beat her to put the order in. Staff saw us waiting and waiting but never acknowledged us or apologize until WE said something. Then told us waitress was new and I figured that out real quick. Took her forever to get drinks and then when putting in order she came back to our table 5 times to verify items. I said ok if new why did you let her take such a large table or help her. They told her well she wanted your table so oh well and that is the only way she is going to learn! WHAT?! At our expense. Then only one meal at a time coming out. By the time the time the hamburgers came out (4) everyone had finished eating. THEN the kids were served last and one of the burgers was never brought to one of them that her mom had to share hers because she was starving! Then it finally came out! Mind you we have already been there over 2+hours! No one no one apologized just kept making excuses! Also people have come and gone been served and the excuses was those waitress ate experienced and yours wasn't!! So we go pay and another half hour!! Bill a hot mess over charged and then told us kids burgers were a patty only not a full burger. Does not say on menu!! So charged adult burgers!!! Then the lady who said she was not a manager came to the register because the poor girl at the register was so confused. Then she tells us she is the manager! What?!! So confused!! So it was a horrible horrible experience sad thing is this nothing will be done about it because it's in a small town and not much options there.
