My only complaint about this ratio establishment was the lack of communication regarding the pricing of tattoos. My husband and I came here to get tattoos and were at first quoted the consultation price...but later we were told our tattoos would cost more when we just got two names tattooed on us. It was confusing! But anyway, past the pricing experience, the actual tattoo font selection and consultation went seamlessly. We were happy with how our tattoos turned out and it wasn't painful at all. Even my husband who feels paper cuts are tremendously painful had no problem being tattooed! Our tattoo artist was named Deanna and she was very pleasant to deal with. I'm not sure I would return to this establishment as I wasn't the happiest with the ink type used. This was a great experience , highly recommended even for your 1st it's a comfortable environment and a big screen TV to distract you. They very friendly and all had senses of humor . If you get nervous & socially awkward like I do you know that all helps ;) Chris is a great chill artist and cleaned up my single -piece nicely only had to wait 2 weeks in between . Being $150 per hour is flexible I've seen worse , mine was an hour in a half and they didn't charge for full 2 hours AKA setting up as I expected . It was $50 for a deposit upon consultation and $175 at the end of the tattoo appointment for an hour in a half single setting black / gray tattoo . I will definitely be going back at some point . I went there for a consultation. They have a sign that has rates on it that spells out the required deposit amount. They asked for more- double and I gave it to them because they told me it is credited toward the work. No problem, I'm paying for it anyway. I had a conflict and canceled the appointment. I called several times and left messages, no one returned my call. On the day of the appointment they called me and asked where I was. I explained that I had called many times to reschedule, and they apologized. Seems legit. So I text and call literally a dozen times to reschedule and no one returns a single text or call. I finally reach someone and tell them I want to change the location of the tattoo. I am told I need another consultation. My friends tell me this is ridiculous but I go anyway. Again the sign says the amount required, I have the consult and they ask me for $200. I tell them I already gave my deposit. They said no, you forfeited that because you called last minute to change your appointment- which is NOT what happened. They are requiring me to now be $300 deep into a small tattoo or forget it. I left and won't go back. This is shady af. Call people back, and don't take their money when you don't answer the phone, return calls or texts. Not my fault. read more

I feel like in a lot of ways Ryan M. took the words right out of my mouth, but I'll take a shot at adding my 2 cents about Kurt, his space and his work. I moved to Boston a little over a year ago and immediately started the search for an artist who had the talent and portfolio that fit with the images in my mind of what my sleeve would be. It took me over 6 months to find Kurt, but when I did(he was still at Pino Bros.) I instantly fell in love with his work. You only have to flip through a couple images in his portfolio to see what a professional he is. The cohesiveness, attentional to detail and raw artistic talent is absolutely undeniable in his work. My only fear was that a guy this talented could be a total jerk and still make a good living, but as Ryan mentioned, it only takes 5 mins to realize that Kurt's personality is as good as his work (which is of course important when you spend 35 hours with the guy). The consultation was great, he was completely open to my (somewhat ludicrous) ideas and was (or at least did a good job of convincing me that he was) genuinely excited to work on my arm. As he worked on the design, he was great about communicating where he was in the process and letting me know how he was going to bring it to life in a way that made sense for both my arm and the piece of art. This is something that i don't think great tattoo artists get enough credit for, but its so important that they can tell you what is going to WORK, not just what's possible. Just another reason why he's such a pro. Not surprisingly, we agreed on the design on the first shot... it is beautiful. From there it was a breeze. His work on the skin is as good as it is on paper. His color work is incredible. watching it come to life on my arm has been a really cool experience. The only negative I have is that Kurt's work is so good it has made everything else I have on my body look like crap..... but I have no one to blame for that but myself! Echo Ryan's sentiments on the new space too, The Gallery is an amazing space, Kurt clearly put the same care into it as he does into every piece he does. well worth the drive to concord. Can't recommend Kurt and The Gallery enough, and I do, almost everyday when someone is blown away by the piece he's done for me. I'll close with a quote from my mom, avid tattoo-hater: "I don't like tattoo's, but this is an amazing piece of artwork and he did such a good job of bringing the idea to life that i can't help but love it" Give Kurt a call and get yourself into his calendar ASAP, he's the real deal. read more

Started working on a sleeve (skull, koi, oni) with Kurt a few months ago. I called up the shop about starting up a sleeve and they set me up with a consultation a few days later. Showed up with my idea and a few reference pieces and mapped everything out with Kurt. He's a really cool dude so it was easy to talk to him about what I was looking for. The best part was he seemed just as excited about the tattoo as me. I scheduled a handful of appointments and now I got this killer piece of artwork on my arm. Couldn't be happier with the way it's coming out. The studio itself is awesome. It's always super clean which is comforting. There's a rotating art gallery to check out. The whole experience was awesome - he really listened during the consultation and had great ideas for how to transform the little pencil drawing of a raven that my fave author doodled in a book into a very cool little tattoo! I went here for my first tattoo after researching a couple of places around the area and boy I was NOT disappointed. Firstly, I was nervous about getting my first tattoo as I had the idea for over four years and was not familiar with the process at all. I called them up to schedule a consultation and they were very nice and accommodating--scheduling my consultation for just two days after my call. I worked with Dan Brown with a design I already had drawn and he was fantastic, making suggestions based on his history with tattoos as well as being honest in regards to size and detail. He was able to schedule me in (from what looked like to be a very full calendar) only two weeks after my consultation. The experience was great. I came in and he already had a stencil drawing which he was even still willing to modify in size 2-3 times the day of (and didn't factor this into the time calculation for the price!). The studio is amazingly clean, welcoming, and chill. I will say the vibe is very relaxed--we watched "Superbad" and "This is the End" on their TV while he was working on my tattoo--so I would factor that into your decision to come here. The tattoo came out as everything I always dreamed of for over four years and I could not be happier. He explained everything well and asked many times if I wanted to take a break while he was working. I could tell he was genuinely happy to see me happy with the end product and answered all my very basic questions about taking care of the tattoo and I was convinced to get their $20 tattoo care package (its a great deal!). Overall I could not be happier to have come here. While I do not plan to get another tattoo anytime soon, if I do in the future you bet I will definitely be coming back here to see Dan! My mom took his card home with her and will be getting her third tattoo with him as well. This place is amazing! read more

Where do I start? I have had 2 sessions here and will have my final one in the next few weeks. I have never gotten a tattoo before and was going for a big piece on my arm so I was quite nervous about it. I first went to Kurt Brown at Pino Bros, upon recommendation from a friend of my wife's, going on 5 yrs ago. I'm pretty huge on first impressions and on that first impression, he was a down to earth, easy to talk to, non judgmental artist who is very open to talking over and working through any ideas you may have. Over the years i've thrown piles of reference images at him to make art from and he's nailed it time after time, without fail or needing to compromise. He enjoys and excels at traditional imagery and traditional japanese. Kurt is a perfectionist, and it shows in spades in his portfolio. He's had quite a few pieces in the last few years that i've seen on other people and thought "damn, i wish i thought of that first" because quality of work is that good. His vision and the cohesion of which he attains for large work is outstanding. I've worked with him on a half sleeve, a forearm piece, a chest piece, and a 1/2 leg sleeve and he's been nothing short of professional and easy going for each of them. It's hard to trust a stranger to do that amount work on your body over a number of years, his process makes you comfortable and allows you to trust him, of which i do implicitly. Which is something I've heard from other customers of his. His new space at The Gallery is pristine. With a super clean, open layout, ego-free and welcoming vibe, it seems like a place that you could just hang out at (if he wasn't busy cranking out awesome work). Walls are donned with some of his best work, art and a giant flat-screen typically showing cult-classic movie of the day. The shop's neighborhood on Main Street in Concord is soon to be buzzing with a line out his door. One note of advice tho: make appointments WELL into advance (months). He was in high demand at Pino, but now that he's running is own shop at the Gallery, he's even more highly sought after. But i guaran-damn-tee he's worth the wait!!! read more

I went to The Gallery today for my first tattoo and it was the best experience I could have asked for. Setting up my appointment was a breeze, I just called in and told them what I wanted ( it was small enough that I didn't need a consultation ) and I had an appointment in 5 days! The studio itself was clean and really cool looking on the inside, I enjoyed the workbooks of each of the artists on the coffee table. Everyone in there was super personable and made me feel comfortable. Nate did an amazing job, even though it was just something small he still took the time to make sure everything was perfect. I have to say that the guys at Gallery Tattoo Studio are just wonderful! I've only ever been tattooed by Kurt Brown (two small pieces and one really big, all three are black and white), and he has always been such a joy to work with. He is an amazingly talented artist and I am so pleased with the work I have had done. I recently went back in for an addition to a tattoo I received from Kurt a couple of years ago. It was definitely a challenge, but he was careful, considerate, and solved the problem in a beautiful way. I am an absolute baby when I get tattooed and this latest one was in a particularly tender place on my side and back. But no matter how much I squirmed, wiggled, giggled, whined, yelled, etc...Kurt was right there to help me through it, with the patience of a SAINT! He truly is a great, great talent. As a first timer, I had no idea what to expect when considering getting a tattoo, but a friend who had gotten some beautiful work done there convinced me that the artists at Gallery not only were talented but really made the whole process easy. This place is hands-down amazing. My fiance and I decided to get matching anchor tattoos in place of wedding bands for our upcoming wedding (not on our actual hands, but our upper arms), and Alec was our artist. He finished mine in *18 minutes*, and it's the most high-quality tattoo I've ever gotten. My fiance's took a bit longer since it was slightly bigger and was equally well-done. In addition to the quality of this place, all of the artists were super friendly, and the place was very clean with lots of eye candy (art on the walls, recent issues of Inked, and a huge HD TV playing reruns of Workaholics) and free coffee. I had an appointment with Dan on Saturday (8/20) for a small outline tattoo. I hate to say that I was full of indecision but I truly was. I had picked out 6 designs and couldn't figure out what I wanted and where. Dan was extremely nice and patient as we talked through it. He did a great job and was really fun to talk to. After almost 20 yrs, I finally pulled the trigger on getting my first tattoo. I had no clue what the process was, but the team was super helpful in walking me through step-by-step from image selection to pricing to cleaning/recovery. No question was taken lightly, and I'm sure I asked quite a few "dumb" ones. Nate was a true professional all the way through. I liked his calm demeanor, it felt very reassuring. He provided some expert advice on my design... sizing, placement, and how it could look over time (I had some tiny paisley's originally designed but Nate mentioned over time they can look like small blobs... definitely didn't want that!). This place is super clean, the artists are always cracking jokes, making it a very friendly, easy going and comfortable environment. During the session, Nate took extra care with his instruments, making sure they were clean and prepped... literally taking every piece from individually wrapped packaging and carefully putting them all together. Knowing this was my first tattoo, he paused frequently to make sure I was ok, which was great because I got a little light headed towards the beginning. No worries though, the team just brought in another chair that I could lay flat, gave me a lollipop... and we continued the session.
