If you're staying, have a seat and your meal will be brought to you after ordering/paying. If you need "to-go", that's available, of course. We happened to arrive during prime lunch hours, so our food took some time....but totally worth the wait. My berry spinach salad was fresh and absolutely delicious with just the right amount of fruit, greens and grilled chicken. Homemade iced tea was great as was the espresso that I spied several others snagging. Had a double shot. Rave reviews from my dining companion, too. First and foremost, they are a garden center and sell plants and other such things. They also sell pumpkins in various sizes, and some by weight, and we purchased a couple to carve up ("You didn't tell me you were going to kill it!") They also had lots of activities for the kids. There were at least a half-dozen wooden picture boards with holes cut out for kids to put their heads through and parents to take pictures. I remember Peanuts, Bluey, Spiderman and Friends, Monsters, etc. They also had a maze of sorts constructed of hay bales (they were only stacked 2-3 high so parents could keep in eye contact. They had a train ride that circled the area. They had a larger corn maze geared more for parents. They had a really long darkened indoor display of at least 100 artificial pumpkins carved into various faces and scenes and lit with Christmas lights. That was cool. And they had a large model train exhibit detailed with lots of fun toys and buildings for kids. That's the good part. The bad part is that because of the rain the outdoor train wasn't running (thankfully, they refunded our tickets which are only good on the day purchased). The rain also made exploring the outdoor activities wet and a bit tiresome. We had to skip some completely. Inside, the train layout consisting of about a half-dozen loops of G scale track and various scenes (adventure, pirates, castles, Star Wars, Harry Potter, amusement park, etc.) were nice to look at but only one engine was running despite at least four loops of track. Why weren't the other trains running? They had food for sale including baked goods and hot items like hot dogs and coffee. My cookie was extremely dry as if they had baked it a week before. But, it wasn't terribly expensive so that was nice. Some of the things I listed above are free, and some have an extra cost attached. So, plan accordingly. Did we have a good time? Um, sort of. But we made the best of it despite the bad weather. On a nice day, it would have been a ton of fun so we will have to return in the future.

On the other, it is bigger than smaller greenhouses and supply centers. You'll get a good variety at any Hewitt's, but sometimes not the cheapest price. Their Garden and Holiday Decorating Club Card helps there ($25 credit for each $250 spent). My visit today was way too early for outdoor plants to be available, but they good sales on seeds and bulbs, and a lot of Easter decorations available. They always have great holiday decorations. Near that you'll find all the yard and garden supplies you need. When the weather warms up, you'll be able to choose from a wide variety of flowering and non-flowering plants, shrubs, trees, bushes, etc. I've also been able to find items here which have been harder to find in big-box plant departments. For example, today I found a uniquely sized clay flowerpot, a size and shape I had not found at any of the aforementioned big box plant departments. The staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable.

At first I was turned off by all that as it looks a little trashy, but when you go in it's got a old time fruit stand feel to it. The guy that owns it has been there for 60 years. Long enough not to take any bullshit from people, but still very nice. He always gives you an apple. He has nice pies and baked goods, and fresh fruit and veggies. This is what shopping used to be. Super markets used to be markets, and markets used to be fruit stands and that's what this is. Perhaps there is no place for a fruit stand in our world anymore. This antiquated idea of commerce (doesn't even take charge cards!!!) won't last in the age of facebook and for that reason is worth supporting. It's worth seeing and being a part of. His cash register is older than you are. He's been making his own way since time began by selling things that are good for you, made by farms, bakers and craftsman from up the road. There is integrity and honor in that.
