So very many excellent places to go in Lincoln!…read more The guys here are excellent. If you like good tea poured from great heights, good cake, people acting overly english, and terrific banter (perhaps seasoned with the odd dirt joke, shhh!) then this is certainly the plain for you. Round the side of the assembly rooms, these guys have made such an effort, to be well dressed, perfectly, Britishly polite, and filling the place with fitting and interesting trinkets, genuine, actual, real deal type people. McGreedycakepants over here *waves hands frantically* is proud and mildly ashamed to say that my mate and I were apparently the first to finish off the afternoon tea in it's gargantuan entirety- if you put good cake in front of me, I will, eat, the lot. We spent hours here, working our way through all of the sarnies, cakes and biscuity treats on the stand, accompanied by tea, silver service style, and a rather excellent camp crocodile joke that I am ashamed to say I can't remember. Your belly deserves this cake, and these excellent people deserve your custom. They also had a stand at the christmas market, they recognised me, and were lovely yet again (now that's definitely customer service) also, I must note, that they also do the best, handmade, deep filled, completely booze steeped mince pies too.

I visited The Mount tearoom last weekend for my dads birthday. First impressions were great, I…read moreloved it! They have plenty of parking on site and you can see a large tent on the property which I believe they hire out for private events. The first thing I spotted outside, which I was really excited about was a Little Free Library book shed, which I know from when I lived in America. It is a book exchange; take a book, leave a book, book swap! I was very impressed to find one there! We had booked a table in advance, which I would probably recommend to avoid disappointment as there aren't many tables, but you can also eat outside. The decor is really nice and very fitting for a tea room. We were shown to our table straight away and the staff were really nice. We decided to order sandwiches and some cake, but they do afternoon tea and ice cream as well. Between us we ordered a bottle of prosecco and I shared a sandwich with a fellow diner, and was glad I did as otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fit in my cake! I went for the Wensleydale cheese and caramelised onion sandwich. Which was really nice! It might have been a bit cheesy had I had both parts of the sandwich. It also came with a nice side salad. For dessert there was lots of choice, including Victoria sandwich, coffee and walnut and lemon cake. I went for the New York cheesecake with strawberry. The cheesecake was delicious! Next time I would like to try the ice cream from Sargent's to see if it is as good as what I remember from when I was young! I can't wait to go back to the tearoom and try something different and next time I will take a book for the library! I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Never been here before and was a little overwhelmed by all of the notices and boards outside…read moreoffering various things. One of them was inviting breastfeeding women inside (great advertisement for pervs), but when I stepped inside there wasn't one private place for the mums to do this without being fully on show (definitely great for the pervs). It was empty on my arrival, apart from one couple, so it was easy for me to get seated. After I ordered a full breakfast I sat down and tried to take it all in. My illusions of a quaint little place were quickly squashed as I took it all in. The floors were filthy, walls scratched and marked, the windows and glass door were smeared in greasy finger marks, and the tables had crumbs and spill ages on them. I'd been sat 45 minutes and these hadn't been cleaned, no other customers apart from me so the two staff were not rushed off their feet. When my breakfast arrived it was smaller than I imagined, I'd paid £6.95 for 2 small sausages, 2 slices of bacon, 1 egg, 2 plum tomatoes, mushrooms, and 2 slices of toast. Notices everywhere mention the home cooked bread, which I was really looking forward to trying, but when I took a bite, the crusts almost broke my teeth! The bread was really heavy and doughy, not light and fluffy so I was really disappointed. The breakfast itself was ok but not something you would recommend. Not sure if the owner is on commission for selling confectionary, but it's a child's dream as sweets are everywhere! The staff were lovely though, so can't fault them, but this is one place I will not be returning to unless it gets cleaned up.
