A family member spent a few weeks in rehab there. The rooms are old and decrepit and the food was essentially inedible. We had to bring decent food in for meals. But what mattered most was the inavailability of enough assistants, especially on weekends. And while our family member was there for rehab, other patients were full time residents and one sad lady, who obviously had dementia, yelled loudly all day long. While we felt terrible about the woman's distress, our main focus was for our relative to recover by being able to sleep at night and not be further stressed out. It would be helpful to have quiet rooms. read more

Bad experience with subacute rehab at this facility. My 92 yo grandma who has dementia fell twice in one day here. I was not contacted the first time it happened and when I asked her nurse what we can do to prevent her from falling in the future, she told me I could hire a person to come watch her. Later, I overheard the nurse loudly saying that they are health professionals and not babysitters. I was alarmed and asked to speak with management. An administrator came and asked me if anyone promised me that my grandma wouldn't fall there. There was no apology or proactive plan to mitigate the risk going forward. The facility itself looks like a motel for convalescing and smells musty. The hallways are very noisy and I believe the noise was a major factor in my grandma's sundowning/getting up. The pt/ot room is cramped and outdated and the male therapist she had that day was disengaged, apathetic, and unpleasant. The only positive thing about this facility was that most of the nurses and cna's I encountered were genuinely kind, concerned, competent, and non-neglectful. That is the only reason I am leaving 2 stars instead of one. If your loved one is fully independent, has no cognitive impairment, and doesn't need rigorous pt/ot, this may be a good facility for you. Otherwise, I do not recommend this place. read more

I cannot say enough about the staff at this facility. They are so caring and compassionate to the patients and the families. Another sign of a high quality place is that the staff all seem so genuinely happy to be working there! I think that says alot! The administration become personally involved and do everything they can to best accommodate a patient's needs to make the stay as positive as possible. Good quality skilled nursing facilities are very rare. This one is a gem! read more

My mother received rehab services at this facility and her experience was hands down wonderful. She progressed so well with all therapies that she could eventually discharge to assisted living closer to my sister. The nursing staff, therapy, social work, activity, administrative departments were all fantastic and they collaborated everyday regarding my mom's care and progress. As a nursing professional I would highly recommend this facility for rehab or LTC. Thank you to all of the staff that helped my mother get to where she is today! read more

I just spent approximately five weeks at The Gardens at Monroe. It was fabulous. Every step of the way was perfect. Most of the time Aireen was my aid. Wow! She took such good care of me. I had a broken elbow as well as difficulty walking. But she was so good in helping me get around these limitations. Then there was Aravinda, a physical therapist. She knew exactly what exercises to give me back my strength and balance. In addition, she supported my walking indoors and outdoors. I now walk mainly without ANY assistance. Faith Rogers is the receptionist. What a wonderful, friendly person. She makes everyone feel comfortable. I am now home, and hope I don't need therapy for a long time. The care that my husband received at the Gardens was outstanding. This included PT, the nurses, the aids, the admin, staff, and even the food. He was in good hands the whole time. terrible place! My mother who is 90 was left in her wheelchair for 4 hours and kept call with no avail! The therapist stated she was releasing her because she was at 75% ??? She could not even get up!!! I appealed the decision but apparently they more about money than people!!!! Terrible place!!! read more

The Gardens at Monroe took care of both of my grandparents at different times. The therapy there is top notch and the staff is amazing! They were both treated with dignity and respect. We felt like we were part of the family whenever we went to visit and we only can say good things. I would recommend this place to anyone with confidence. read more

We used The Gardens in conjunction with Grace Hospice when my father was in the last week of his life. The communication between The Gardens and Grace Hospice was not what we expected, particularly over the weekend, which led to our loved one being in horrendous pain for days. Additionally, The Gardens ran out of morphine at one point - completely unacceptable. When my dad was on medications "as needed," the attention he was paid was not good enough - at some points he was only given pain meds two times per day, when they were available to him every 3 hours, and he was left to wail in pain. In terms of staff, we had a wonderful experience with Faith the nurse; however, we had an equally bad experience with Sunita, the head of social services, who had an attitude with us at a time when we were trying to advocate to ensure our loved one, was kept comfortable. Overall, our experience was traumatizing and painful. read more

My mother was sent from St. Peter's Hospital to The Gardens for short term rehab, to continue recovering from pneumonia in one lung that she had been successfully treated for. While at The Gardens my mother's pneumonia recurred, and spread to both lungs. The Gardens hesitated for days to send her back to the hospital. Finally my mother was sent back to the hospital in an ambulance when she was going to die from not being able to breathe. My mother died 9 days later of the pneumonia that recurred while under the care of The Gardens. I'll never know if my mother - who at 94 was still vital, active, working, driving, - who died young at 94 - I'll never know if she would have survived if the care at The Gardens had erred on the side of caution rather than on the side of inaction. My mother was sent back to the hospital at the last possible moment, rather than at the earliest possible moment, when she began to show signs of getting sick again. I miss my mother. read more
