We chose Advanced Dentistry of Harleysville for convenience of location, provision of pediatric dental care, in-network insurance coverage, soonest new patient appointment, and reviews from other community members. I had contacted 3 other dental offices prior to making a decision. To say we had an incredible first experience is an understatement! My husband has some dental anxieties and had a wonderful experience with both the dental hygienist and dentist, Dr. Shah. His first appointment was scheduled for the next day which included X-rays and a thorough cleaning and examination. Everyone in the office is extremely friendly and honest without being pushy about services or "extras" that may not be needed. I went a week later with my toddler and had a wonderful experience as well. They were quick and great with my uncooperative toddler and did not mind him hanging out to wait for me to be done. My appointment felt very thorough as well and the staff, once again, was amazing. Dr. Shah laid out options for future dental work, but encouraged me to think about everything as it was not urgent. Not one person in the office was pushy with anything and explained each step and answered all questions. Wonderful experience with a very nice office and great staff. Highly recommend! We all won't mind going back for routine care one bit!

Professional dentist, but unacceptable and disrespectful staff behavior…read more I had a fractured tooth from clenching while exercising and had a crown placed, which unfortunately fell out after only a week. When I returned to have it fixed, the dentist was highly professional and apologetic. However, the behavior of the dental assistant/nurse/ staff member was completely unacceptable. While waiting with numbing agent in my mouth, I needed assistance and raised my hand twice. The the dental assistant/nurse/ staff member did not respond. When I later brought it up, her response felt dismissive and disrespectful. When I expressed my discomfort to the dentist and asked for a different assistant, he went to the front desk. Instead of resolving the issue, the same dental assistant/nurse/ staff member returned to the room, which made the situation feel worse instead of resolved. This lack of basic empathy and professionalism led me to go directly to the front desk to ask for accountability. Ultimately, the owner had to step in to complete the procedure. While he was kind, understood my frustration, and tried to defuse the situation, the fact remains that patients should never feel ignored, dismissed, or disrespected during dental care, especially when they are already in pain and vulnerable. I stood up for my self-respect, but I am incredibly disappointed by the lack of care and professionalism from the dental assistant/nurse/staff member here.

I arrived 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment time, so the lack of fulfillment was extremely unprofessional and showed very little consideration for patients and their time.

Despite that, I was later billed for charges I never knowingly approved and never agreed to pay out of pocket. What made this worse was the lack of transparency. I repeatedly asked for clear documentation, itemized charges, and proof that I signed for certain services they later claimed I owed. Instead of properly resolving the dispute, the account was sent to collections and reported to the credit bureaus. I already paid significant amounts directly to the office, including payment for Invisalign by credit card, yet they still pursued additional disputed charges without properly explaining them. Patients should be very careful here and request everything in writing before agreeing to treatment. Make sure you fully understand what insurance covers and what they may later try to bill you for. Very stressful experience overall, especially the handling of billing and collections.

He took x rays and told me that the tooth required immediate extraction because of infection rapidly approaching the nerve. He instructed me to find an oral surgeon before the end of the week. New to the area, I called my insurance carrier to help me find a local oral surgeon who could extract my tooth without delay. My insurance identified Paul G Smith (a doctor within Plan) at Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. in Pottstown PA (1 hour drive from where I lived). I called Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. and explained the urgency of my condition. I was given an appointment for tooth extraction 1.30 pm on Friday. I was relieved. I offered to email recent X-rays. The receptionist declined. I thought this odd but did not question further. Friday morning after a painful and restless night I called to confirm arrangements. I wanted to make sure there were no loose ends given the urgency of the extraction and also the long travel distance (1 hour each way). This time a different receptionist answered. The woman explained there would be no extraction because my insurance required a prior authorization. This "new information" was never disclosed to me when I made the appointment or when I called my insurance even though I made clear in both conversations the urgency of my condition. The receptionist explained that I would require new x rays and a letter written by the doctor to be sent to my insurance in order to be granted the authorization required. I asked her how long this would take and she continued that it would take 7 to 10 days for me to get extraction. When in a panic I told her that I could not possibly wait that long with the pain I was experiencing and asked what I could do she said that I could keep the appointment and proceed with extraction if I agreed to pay "out of pocket". She would not provide an exact price, specifying only that the procedure would not be less than $775. I was shocked and demoralized. I could not possibly afford to pay "out of pocket". At the same time delay was jeopardizing my health as the infection spread. I ended the conversation indicating I would call my insurance to see if there was a way to speed up the process given the pain and--more importantly--health implications. I called my insurance somewhat upset. I asked why (given the seriousness of my condition) the approval process was not made transparent to me. Insurance stated that there was no Pre-approval requirement for doctors within Plan. The receptionist at Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. had scapegoated the insurance carrier as a cover up. Insurance was not pleased and suggested I call back Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. office to let them know that if the office was unclear about the insurance process then the insurance carrier would be happy to explain. Relieved by what I just learned I called back and the same receptionist I had talked to earlier answered the phone. I explained with excitement that no Pre-authorization was required with my Plan. As such Paul G. Smith at Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. could perform the extraction immediately. I was put on hold. The receptionist returned to the line a minute later. She explained she had moved away from the reception area -I guess so other patients would not hear- she recited the following: "It is the practice's policy to first have an appointment with a patient before scheduling a procedure". Presumably Paul G. Smith at Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. could take X-rays and proceed immediately based upon findings. For purely profit motives, however, it decided to create two independent insurance billing events. In short, generating more money while putting a patient's health at risk. Is this in keeping with the Hippocratic Oath? All this notwithstanding Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. knowingly booked an appointment on a false premise that I would have my tooth extracted at my initial appointment. More disturbingly when confronted with this deceit, attempted to cover up its misrepresentation by shifting blame to my insurance carrier. Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. actions were immoral, unethical and unconscionable. I cancelled my appointment and vowed to share my experience. Before you consider Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc. understand its primary motive is PROFIT. DECEIT, MISREPRESENTATION and LYING are its tactics. Think about it. Unbeknownst to me it would knowingly have me drive for more than 2 hours only to have me wait another week in pain all the while putting my health at risk solely for profit. UNCONSCIONABLE.

My impression was this practice form the get go was set to get a prospective patient to agree to root canal before the appointment She did finally say well you coukd come in for just the evaluation and xrays butusually we do a root canal. I I had also asked for cost of an implant After checking with other practices I found this one was almost double most of the other practices I contacted. I did not make an appt with them and based on this interaction and the cost I would not recommend this practice. As far as are they good or not, this I don;t know but no dental practice, in my opinion should be saying what treatment they intended to do before they have even seen a patient

As soon as I walked in, I noticed the cleanliness of the waiting room. The receptionist greeted me and had me fill out new patient forms. Shortly after, I was taken to the back by one of their hygienist who was very friendly. She explained procedures and after I had an extensive exam and photos. Before, ending the exam the Doctor came in to speak with me, she was also very friendly. A few days later I went back for a cleaning. I am so bad with names but the girl that cleaned my teeth was really nice. I felt very comfortable with her and she did a great cleaning job. This was definitely one of my better experiences at a dental office! I highly recommend this dental office.
