My wife and I stayed at the Gibson Inn on a Thursday and Friday night for a short trip to Apalachicola. I almost booked somewhere else, but chose this hotel due to all the great reviews. The Gibson Inn lived up to the hype!! The stay was nice, the room was nice, and the location was nice. The Gibson Inn is a charming, historic building that has been well taken care of and includes all the modern amenities you would come to expect from a top tier hotel. We stayed in a third floor corner room, which was very nice and spacious. The location was perfect - within walking distance of everything in downtown Apalachicola. The staff was friendly and helpful. My wife and I really liked the period decor throughout the property. It was very well done, with every detail thought of. There were two minor things that detracted from our stay. The Gibson Inn, although located within walking distance of everything, is right next to a major highway, Our room was right next to the highway, so the traffic noise was loud. Really loud. You can probably "fix" this by booking a room away from the highway. Surprisingly, though, I didn't here any guests. We walked out of the room one morning to hear our neighbor loudly talking on the phone. We could hear him in the hallway, but not in the room. The other thing is the pre-stay paperwork. I suppose they need to protect themselves, and have probably have had things stolen in the past, but all the paperwork I signed stating I wouldn't steal anything was a little much. Overall, I'm glad we stayed at the Gibson Inn. Walking around Apalachicola, can't really see where another hotel could beat it. We'll stay again if we ever make it back to the area!

Wish I could have stayed longer! I was just passing through for the night and decided to stay at this amazing little spot and omg was it amazing! My photos do it no justice. It felt more like I was somewhere in the Carolina's than in Florida. The building is over 100 years old and you can just feel the history around you while walking through the creeping original wood floors. Plus it's got that great grandma's attic smell in the hallways. The rooms had all been recently renovated with a warm old coastal feel. If I lived in the area I would definitely be getting married there because the rest of the property is just beautiful and a perfect venue for a wedding or party ! On top of it all the staff is incredibly friendly everyone I met alway was helpful and greeted me with a warm welcome !!!

We came down for a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed here over 15 years ago for a previous anniversary and loved our time. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our veranda room was comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed dessert at the bar (the baked chocolate chip cookie with ice cream was divine) and also had breakfast at The Franklin Cafe the next morning. The breakfast was delicious but the service was even better. I can't say enough good things about our short stay. We also enjoyed strolling through town partaking in a few beers at Oyster City Brewery and the High Five Dive Bar and some of the tastiest oysters ever at The Station Raw Bar. Definitely worth a stay in this charming town.

Bed was comfy but we paid extra for bay view... all we saw was the bridge ramp! Forget sleeping, the door BANGS down stairs so loud , I went outside 2 times in the night to see if the rocking chairs were hitting the building! When I mentioned how horrible I slept the girl at the desk just confirmed the door was a nuisance! Not worth staying here!!

Hole in the Wall where rude service and forgetful staff are the highlight. Everyone had a great time just don't cross the owner.

If you are looking to step back in time yet in comfort this is your Inn. It has done a remarkable job of make this 121 year old building comfortable, clean and quiet. The beds are very nice and the staff is pleasant. A few things to know before you go. Apalachicola is a rustic fishing village. Small core downtown that has a few lovely eateries and coffee shop. It is a grand low key get away. If you are not a fisherman than bring a book

My husband and I planned to stay at the Gibson Inn for 2 nights with our puppy. We wanted a vacation where we could relax, sleep late, and visit St. George Island. We chose this inn based on many good reviews, but should have paid better attention to the poor reviews. The city of Apalachicola is very slow and quaint, with many little shops and restaurants. The good... 1) check in was very easy, 2) room was clean, 3) they are pet-friendly. The bad... 1) The exterior and surrounding landscaping lacked curb appeal. In addition, it had very little grass for the puppy to do his business. There was a lot of dirt, grit, and sand. There are a few parking places along the street in front and side of the inn. 2) The room was very small, and smelled musty. They informed us at check-in that the room they had slated for us had a leak in the a/c, so we were getting an "upgrade". The "upgrade" was a room that has access to a shared porch. Someone wrote another review and said their room was the size of a postage stamp; and that is a great description. We wonder what the non-upgraded room was like. 3) The walls are paper-thin. We could hear someone next door "pass gas", and every time someone used the ice machine, or shut a door. So, it was difficult to get a good night's sleep. 4) They are doing construction on the property but did not disclose that when we booked the stay. Construction lasts all day. And it was literally right outside our door where they were using saws and hammering. We put up with it yesterday, but by the time it started this morning, we were tired from lack of sleep, and could not take one more day with the construction noise, so we decided to leave after staying one night. 5) I went to tell the front desk that we would be checking out early because of the construction noise. The desk attendant told me she would get my "folio" ready. When I returned with the keys, she gave me the receipt. I noticed we were charged for 2 nights. Upon asking for clarification, she said it was because I did not cancel within 48 hours prior to the arrival. I explained that we were leaving because of the construction noise, which was not any fault of ours. The attendant was unapologetic. She said her manager was in a meeting, but that she could have them call me to see if they can waive that cancellation fee. Of course, I have not received a call; and probably will not. For a place that has been in business for 116 years, you would think they'd have their customer service down to a science. I would not recommend the Gibson Inn to any of my friends or family.

Such a fabulous quaint hotel. Great staff. Eclectic bar. Nice little restaurant. A hotel that time forgot. Great seafood town. A fishing hamlet with all kinds of people who have "dropped out" 1960s style. Super clean rooms. Just laid back!

No time to ponder that as a very large palmetto bug runs across the wall next to me. I'm phobic about those roaches but finally managed to dispatch it with my shoe. Some of it may still be in the rug with who knows what else. My wife takes a shower and the water stinks to high heavens of sulphur, or something like it. She freaks out but I tell her that in some areas water can have an oder. We brush our teeth, next morning brush our teeth again and wash up, water still smells to high heavens. We go to lobby for breakfast (arrive at 9:31 am per my iPhone), breakfast closes at 9:30 so out of luck there. My wife mentions the awful smell to the two clerks on duty. They ask, weren't you told about the water? No. They show us a bulletin from the city warning people NOT TO USE THE WATER unless you boil it for a full minute. Including not to brush your teeth. First we heard of this, night clerk failed to advise us. But why aren't notices out in rooms? Why not give us bottled water? How are we to shower or brush our teeth? And we were charged full fare. We both had stomach and intestinal issues for the next two days. So no, I don't recommend this place.

I booked this through Expedia... no issues there....I thought until I get an email from someone…read moresaying they're from Coons which was spelled wrong because wanting everything I gave Expedia and then through the 4 stage process it wanted you to dnload a process to enable your phone to unlock the house door, ice room door. I was worried this was a scam so I ignored it after pondering over it. A fellow friend never got this request like I did so that reassured me ignoring it was best. We ended up it two separate homes a block apart which was fine I stayed in the home on 5th Street for 2 nights. It was on the second floor and very clean. The bed and linen were all clean and comfortable. My biggest gripe is the water supply. The odor of sulphur rotten eggs was so strong I was not going drink it. I was already stuck in the shower with it stinking up the room for one night. It was only smelling from the hot water side. Why would they think that's okay with anyone is crazy. I did like the location and convenience of restaurants and gas stations. These homes had such beautiful woodwork and a lot of character!! Fix the water smell for house on 5th Street and quit trying to confuse customers about picking up key from another location and downloading some app to open doors. Also have a key drop-off box if you're not going to be there by 7:00 AM. All in all I did like the stay and the gentleman at 329 water street was very friendly.

We had the King Suite with a balcony, that we sat on drinking wine and enjoying the salty air. The decor is beautiful! The walls are covered with beautiful art work consisting of beach landscapes. The owner, Sandy, was very friendly. We received a map of the surrounding area as well as restaurant recommendations upon arrival. Apparently, the Inn also hosts weddings (we could see the pretty gazebo out of our window, surrounded by flowers). There were lots of yummy baked goods, and Sandy even prepared a plate of pumpkin bread and cinnamin rolls for us, as we were checking out. This felt like a home away from home.
