I would recommend this Inn with some caution. The front and back doors remain unlocked overnight and there is no staff. The occupants go in and out, up and down the stairs and if you are in the first level you can hear everyone and everything happening. The room we stayed had a king bed and was good size. The place was clean but maybe could use some tlc in spots. The outside looks very quaint. Check in and check out were easy and there was a single coffee cup maker to grab a cuppa before leaving. This venue would be great as a B&B (with some renovations). read more

Extremely awkward. The entire room was under construction with damage everywhere. A giant cockroach was in our bathtub. We couldn't even control out own A/C or heat. Maybe some rooms were better, but not this Dolphin Room. read more

Very nice inn, clean and comfortable, not many rooms so there wasn't a lot of inside noise, it was off season as well. It is on the main highway on the island, so I am not sure how this is in the busy season. Beautiful hardwood floors and wrap around porches to sit outside on and relax. I love that the rooms have names instead of room numbers. At night we did hear the LOUD trucks (you know the pickup trucks with the obnoxious mufflers) but after 10 PM we didn't notice any more. The only thing is that there are purple lights outside on the porches and when you wake up at 2 am you think "on my goodness, I've " but it's just those outside lights peaking around the curtains at you. Coffee machine in the hallway was perfect for the early morning coffee that we all enjoy. I would stay here again, there was nothing (except I wish we could turn off those nights) that I would change read more

I'll just add that when I told the front desk that I knew they were doing some updates but the room wasn't quite ready to be charging people...she said "I'm glad you have an opinion and I'll let the manager know" in a very condescending tone. The manager then followed us out as we were leaving and said "hey! I hear you have a problem?!" I then walked in the room, showed him the issues that I, as a paying customer, had and he decided that "they didn't need MY KIND around there and to never come back. He wasted his breath because coming back to this 1 star at best place was never a thought in my mind after 5 seconds of opening the door to the room. We spent 3 nights here (Thursday-Saturday) in hot August 2019 and enjoyed our stay. The room (Dunes) was comfortable, including the temperature and the bed, and it was quiet. The inn is walking distance convenient to shopping and dining on the island including the Island Grocery right next door and the public beach area where the lighthouse is located. Sitting on the balcony or porch in the cooler evening with breezes from the Gulf was pleasant. You were serenaded by the music from three different locations and yet it wasn't too loud. You can even get a glimpse of the Gulf and the bay from the second floor balcony. This is one of the earliest accommodations built on the island for those who don't want to rent a whole house so there is a little wear and tear. It is a wood frame building built in the style of an inn you might have seen in earlier years at many Florida coastal locations so you will hear some creaks and the sound of people walking on wood. The manager said they had planned some renovations for the slower season last fall and winter but Hurricane Michael put the kibbosh on that as they ended up housing lots of the workers who came to the area to make repairs to communities further west that were heavily damaged. They will try again this slower season. Management and staff were very friendly and accommodating and several times emphasized that if we needed anything just let them know. If you arrive when no one is sitting at the desk, their phone number is right there to call them and they come right out and check you in. For those without a cell phone, there is a desk phone to make the call. They have a pretty no nonsense policy about those who can't maintain a reasonable amount of quiet during their stay. It is quiet time beginning at 10 pm and rowdiness will get you a warning and after that you will be asked to leave with no refund. The policy is clearly stated on the check in paperwork. As I said, our stay was quiet including no sounds from the outside once you entered the inn. Parking was in front of the inn and on the side and although the front parking lot is shared with the grocery store, we never had a problem parking in front. There is no elevator. You have to climb stairs to get to the front entrance and if you don't have a room on that floor then you have more stairs to climb. There is a ramp at the back of the inn that provides access to the one room on the first floor that accommodates the physically challenged. For this older, overweight and physically unfit fellow it was a little work getting our stuff into and out of the inn but nothing I couldn't handle. Prices are reasonable for what it costs all over the Florida coast to stay at the beach and they have a Yelp check in discount for single night stays. I must admit I had some reservations about staying here when I looked at the other Yelp reviews but we needed a room on the island so I booked it anyway and hoped for the best. Now that we have stayed here I can say that if you are not expecting The Ritz, this is a very nice place to stay and I would stay here again. read more

Stayed here on business (I'm a travel writer for a national travel service) and at first found this Inn very charming. Checking in the staff was very pleasant and efficient. The Inn is perfectly located in the middle of the island with easy access to shops and restaurants. The issues began even before we reached our room. As we were climbing the stairs, we were warned by fellow guests of the standing water at the top that they had already reported to management earlier that morning. There was no evidence any efforts to clean it up or signs warning of the water. Sometimes things like this happen in hotels; however at the top of the stairs is a MAJOR safety hazard. The management should have at least made some effort to warn guests. The room was adequate and since we were only there for one night, it fit our needs. Although, my husband said the couch looked and felt like something they picked up off the side of the road. Issue number two showed up later in the night in the form of cockroaches. And where you see one cockroach, there are more. I am a native Floridian and understand completely the nature of all our little insect friends. That doesn't mean I should see them in the hotel room we are paying over $300 to stay in. The final issue was when I woke and noticed that there was something that very much looked like mold on the bedroom wall. I hadn't noticed it before since we checked in during the later afternoon and the lighting wasn't so bright. I fully intended to speak to the management on my way out, however there was no one at the desk when we "checked out". We were to leave our key in a box on the desk. I waited as long as I could to see if any hotel representative appeared, but no one did before I had to leave. Since I booked our stay through Hotels.com, I called to share my story and asked for a partial refund. The request was flatly denied by the the hotel. I can only interpret that as the hotel's lack of interest in customer service. I hope that these issues are addressed for the sake of future guests. read more

This was a grand inn on the Island for years. Spent a couple vacations there. Went back this week to find it run down and in a state of disrepair. Some repairs started but not finished, some not even started. Room had no a/c as it is run from a thermostat in the hallway. Patched areas on walls. New mirror not the same size as the old one, but no repair around it. Wires dangling in the hallway ceiling. Lots of dirt on baseboards and in corners. Lots of screws and nails protruding from walls. Missing door security latch altogether. Door doesn't fit properly and had to be forced (loudly) to open. Don't believe the photos on their website! read more

We made reservations for this place based on their clever marketing. We were there two nights June 10-12, 2021 and the cost was $530.00. If it had been as advertised , no complaints. The place is rundown, needs a good scrubbing in all corners. All doors have to be slammed to close. The place needs some major work on plumbing, electrical, painting and gener maintenance. The bed in our 3rd floor room was king size but felt like it was as old as the ancient building. The stairways need some proper safety rails installed. Except for the nice location, the only good thing was the nice lady working the reservation desk and her dog Buster. The bottoms of our feet were black from walking on the dirty floors. Absolutely would not recommend to others. The place has potential with some funding for updating while keeping the quaint essential of it. We were so pleasantly surprised to see it looked like night and day compared to the pictures on here. They have definitely gone through some major renovations! We stayed here in April for one night. For the price, we thought it would be nicer. Built in 1985, it looks like it hasn't been well maintained. We were told that they had just redone the rooms upstairs but other than the wood floors, we could not tell. There were stains on the lampshades and pictures hanging in the room. The room refrigerator was rusty and the bathroom shower suffered from low water pressure and limited ht water. We did find the beds comfortable and the location was excellent. We were within walking distance of everything we needed and this is the nicest housing on the island. read more

Headboard old and did not fit the bed and bunkbeds looked hand made. $280 a night is ridiculous for this place but they have a monopoly on the island so get away with it without updating the place. Honestly, I've stayed in motel 6s that had nicer, better kept rooms than this place. We stayed in Neptune, the "honeymoon suite". I can't even begin to tell you how disappointed I would be had it actually been our honeymoon. I stayed for a week in June with my wife and my dog. I chose the Inn because it is dog friendly, they have a great weekly rate, and is close to the beach which allows dogs off leash. This is great for my dog Stella, she love to swim in the gulf. The house is very nice, but not the kind of Inn where people sit around in the living room and chat. They also don't have breakfast available, but I was okay with that. The rooms are very well appointed, I believe all the rooms have a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, and the coffee is refilled every day when the room is refreshed. Some of the rooms are larger and even have partial kitchens. I think its awesome that it is located right next to the grocery store. I mean it is a little on the expensive side for a grocery, and it doesn't have the biggest selection, but if you want a late night ice cream or some beer, its right there! The Inn keeper Christina is really nice too. She tries to help out with anything you need. I would strongly recommending staying at St George Inn for a beach vacation, especially if you like to vacation with your dog. read more

Run down Inn, probably at one point they were nice, but not any more. Their bed sucks, Venetian blind torn up, furniture disgusting and God forbid you check out early due to an emergency! You will loose all your money. Heartless owners. Worse experience ever! There was one lady was super nice, but when I went back to let them know I was going to check out early, the lady was on the phone and did not even acknowledge me, after 5 mins later. Ac is controlled by one person, no ac in each room, so if you get hot, brace yourself. The pictures that you see online are deceptive, is not what get. St. George Island is beautiful. The only regret I have was I did take not take pictures to share. If you don't have reservations and you are a walk-in, ask to see the room that you are going to get. Never again! We love the island but will never stay here again. Poorly maintained. Our patio door blew open at least 3x due to bad winds- it does not shut properly. We should've been moved to another room. ashley was sweet. Way too expensive for what your get. No hot water for more than 45 seconds! Lots of wood rot that could result in someone getting hurt. Our patio railing was VERY loose. More trash out back than guests expect- even if remodeling(and that does not seem to be the case). Terribly disappointed for an anniversary weekend. read more

I believe this hotel suffers from some bad rooms. I stayed in the "Bayside" room. It was very loud in general. The 10' ceilings and wood floors make an echo chamber. In addition, the room was facing a bar with live music that was very loud so no sleep till 2AM and then the fridge or air conditioner wakes you up with loud clacking or dripping. I will stay here again but I will stay in a different room facing away from the bar. read more

It was ok in a pinch. I do not care for towels, linens, blankets, comforters etc. at a hotel to be colors. I prefer white. White I can tell if it's clean and it can be bleached! The mattress needed replacing. To be their accessible room it was too cluttered. There was a general air of negligence inside and out. Recommendation if you have no where else it's ok. For what's offered it's overpriced. With a few upgrades and a cleaning with a little rehab it could be a 5 star Inn. You get the feeling someone just lost heart. read more

I stayed at the St George Inn for two nights in late December, 2016. I thought it was a very nice quaint hotel. The location was perfect to get to other places on the island. The first night, I stayed in a room close to the check in desk and it was a little loud. I requested to move to another room and the manager, Shannon gladly accommodated my request. Shannon was very helpful for the rest of my stay offering information about places to eat and things to do in the area. I loved staying there and will definitely stay there again. We lived on the island 4 years, I worked in the area as an RN, our daughter went to ABC school. We just moved from the island, due to hubby's job requirements, in July. However, my niece got married on the island the weekend of the 18th. Once we knew we were moving, I knew I needed to go ahead and secure a stay, over that weekend (because I knew there would be limited rental availability for a 2-night stay on the island at short notice!!)...so, I automatically thought of the Inn and booked a stay. I needed at least two beds...as it would be me, my 78 y/o mother and my younger brother who would be utilizing the rental. I secured what was advertised as a 1 King, 1 Queen, Sleeper Sofa. Once arriving, the room was only a 1 King, loveseat (not a sleeper). Clearly, not what I had reserved (in June of 2020). Long story short (which I am more than willing to elaborate on) we did not stay, as the room was not what was advertised. We were told management had approved a full refund due to room not being what was advertised...but, we only received one night stay reimbursement. Myself and my husband have tried to contact the Inn via phone, with promises of the manager to call us back "when they are not with a customer," only to never have those calls returned. I then emailed, Oliver at Anchor Realty, who is the owner of the property, with no response as well...this was after learning that the person who had answered the phone and said management would call us back, was indeed management. I do not have a problem paying for what was advertised...but we did not get what was advertised, and had to secure another rental with the sleeping capacity we needed. My confirmation email, from the SGI Inn, stated that the room included 1 King, 1 Queen, and a sofa sleeper. Seriously, what adult who was planning on traveling with her elderly mother and her brother (41 year old!!) would reserve a room with 1 King bed??? ‍ Please. And just so it is known...I have tried to resolve this by calling the St. George Inn and emailing the owner, prior to posting my review here. Just not sitting well with me, especially as a previous full-time resident who trusted what I assumed would be a safe rental, with the Inn. If they were to attempt to resolve this, I would not be so apt to post a review, warning those who may be looking at booking a stay. However, apparently, we have spoken with the manager, herself...as she was the only one there at the time (remember I lived here...I still have contacts) and have yet to receive the first call from the promised call-back from said management, when "they [were} not with a customer." read more

This place has potential. Staff seemed friendly. Room was by far not worth the price. The mattress is terrible, I may as well have slept on a slab of concrete. Room was tiny, thankfully we didn't need the pull out sofa because I'm not sure how it would have opened. Soooooooo noisy as well. I was woken up every single morning if my 4 night stay by a kid screaming bloody murder (shrieking.. Terrible, terrible shrieking at 5-6am) with his mother screaming shut up, shut up, shut up shortly after. There were several other kids running around (which wouldn't be that big of a deal except everything echoes). It almost seemed like these people were living here as I saw the kids getting off the bus. Additionally, there just want a lot of care taken in the place. Sure, the bathroom was repainted, but no one taped off the woodwork or paintings on the walls so there were paint drips all over them. That's generally how the whole place felt, just not cared for. I would never stay here again. Next time, we will rent a house (which I actually tried to find something to move to for the last night of our stay). read more

I was very disappointed in my stay at the St. George Inn. the main concern was insects in the bedding. At first I didn't realize where the very itchy bites were coming from but after realizing that I always had more bites after napping or sleeping in bed I decided to inspect the mattress. My boyfriend and I discovered many very small black dead bugs in the sheets and within the cracks of the mattress. After bringing this to the attention of the front desk staff they collected as many of the bugs as they could find (there were at least two dozen picked off the mattress- all of which appeared dead), they assured us that they were NOT bed bugs. They offered to refund our stay and replace the linens. At this point we only had one night left of our stay and not wanting to leave our vacation early we stayed the final night. We were told by the manager, Melinda, that we would receive our refund via mail within the next several days. Unfortunately the bugs must reside inside the mattress and we had additional bites the next morning. I should add that we stayed two days on the island at a different location frequenting the same spot on the beach with zero itchy bites. After returning home we contacted the Inn in reference to the refund but after several days of phone tag we were told by the owner, Mr. Monod, we would not be receiving the promised refund. His reasoning was that he had sent the insect sample to a lab and claimed the results showed they were not biting insects. He refused to allow us to view a copy of the lab report and will no longer respond to calls and emails. I really hoped to leave a decent review of the Inn because I was initially content with how the staff handled the issue with refunding our stay. Had I known that would not be the case I would absolutely not stayed the final night. I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism in this matter. I honestly would have been content with a partial refund and can't imagine that it's worth the negative reviews I will leave. Before checking in we had discussed returning in the off season but after our unfortunate stay we will never return and do not recommend this facility. read more

Really in need of TLC, some deep cleaning and a coat of paint applied by someone with reasonable painting skills. Location great and staff friendly but the place is just short of nasty. Oh, and they don't tell you, but they don't clean the rooms daily as 'they don't want to interfere with guest's privacy'. Thankfully, I was able to get some fresh towels. Room temp ranged from too cold to just right to too hot. It wasn't unbearable. There are nice places to stay in Appalachicola that are much older but cleaner and well maintained. After reading all of the negative reviews on Travel Advisor, I booked a room here for this past Saturday anyway. This place was built in 1984 it seems as a private residence, and then converted in it's latter years. My spouse and I stayed in the "Sunset" room, which is facing west, on the second floor. The room, although smallish, was comfortable. Everything was clean and there were no issues with hot water or anything similar. In my opinion, the rooms facing the east and north are your best bet for the views. My only concern is that there seems to be no security there at night (and sometimes on the weekends). The outside stairs to the floors above are open for anyone and it seems all outside doors to the floors on the second floor leading to the hallway are left unlocked. The main entrance door is similar. Finding an employee to check you in or out is troublesome also. There is a number to call for someone to assist you if needed posted at the desk, but good luck with that. My spouse and I waited on the porch for around 30 minutes when we arrived. Luckily we had cold liquids (beer) to imbibe during our wait. read more

This hotel has remodeled and is pretty awesome. Now my new vacation place to stay great job St. George Inn we will be returning often.

We wanted a romantic spot to spend the holiday. He wanted to camp. I wanted a nice hotel. The room was over priced for what it was. *The furnishings looked like 1980's garage sale cast offs *There was a picture missing from above the bed with the nails and old nail holes exposed. *The bed felt like sleeping on a trampoline. *The TV is mounted so high on the wall (in a cubby at ceiling height) that you have to lay in the bed to watch it *There was a hole in the wall in the bathroom *At one point in the night the manager opened the storage room next to our room and was talking to someone. We were startled because it sounded like they were in our room. *The one attempt at a comfortable chair was sitting in a nook under the TV cubby. I kept laughing because he looked like he was sitting in the closet. But there was no closet. *When, after struggling to get them open, we threw open the French doors to the wrap around balcony...we were looking directly into the wall of the strip mall next door. *There's a renovation in process. It's clear we didn't get one if the renovated rooms. On the plus side, the room was warm. It had a microwave, little frig and coffee pot that all were clean and worked. There's wifi but don't expect to watch a movie on your tablet unless you don't mind buffering. In hindsight, camping becomes a more viable option. At least we have a story to tell at the next holiday family gathering. read more

Large rooms with wood floors- pet friendly with sidewalk along side street. Bathroom functioned for washing long hair, but fixtures a bit corroded. However, the room was very clean, even if it's an old building with mediocre upkeep. Frig, micro and coffeemaker. Good cable and wifi. Central a/c - very nice and quiet, much appreciated. Excellent service. Walk to dog friendly beach and dog friendly restaurant "Blue Parrot" on the beach with awesome local stuffed shrimp. This is a simple, clean and spacious, homey place. read more

We stayed at the St. George Inn last week. Let me first say that the lady that worked the front desk did everything she could to make our stay pleasant. However, the place is in shambles. It's disgustingly dirty and poorly managed. The room was filthy, had a blanket wadded on the back of the couch with a pillow and you could tell someone was sleeping there and it hadn't been washed. The couch itself was also disturbing and gross. After telling the lady at the front desk, she made arrangements to have a new one brought in, however, it wasn't a sleeper so my son had to sleep on a cot for our 4 night stay. I was grateful to have a clean couch so I didn't complain about the room not accommodating us as we planned. There were two accent chairs in the room as well that I requested clean sheets/blankets to put over them because they were so stained. The trash wasn't removed from our room and there weren't any daily cleanings preformed. We had to ask for garbage bags and carried it out ourselves. The coffee pot remained dirty after our first night, but they brought new coffee and filter. The bed was also in poor condition. Every time we would move, the box spring made a terrible creaking noise. Our room had been painted, sort of. There were several spots in the room where the paint was incomplete and didn't cover the original color. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. I regret not taking photos to share on here so you could judge for yourselves. read more
