Stationery that speaks to me! The first time I walked into this shop, I had noticed it after getting takeout from good ol Zoes Kitchen (right next door) and of course I had to go in because I can never have enough pretty paper to doodle on. As soon as I walked in a couple of sweet ladies greeted me and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I said I was just browsing and they kindly let me browse in peace. There was the standard Jon Hart collection of leather goods and other commonly found stationery goods but I was surprised to see the unique selection of some of my favorite quirky and beautiful stationery goods from Rifle Paper &Co., Le Pen, and Smock! These are usually items I have to purchase online so was ecstatic to find these here! I popped in again today to get some birthday cards for some friends that are way too cool for your typical Hallmark selection, so I turned to Girl General. They had just what I was looking for! I quickly purchased a few items and told one of the associates there that I would love to see more of these items. She said that she would add them to their restock list... I really hope they do!!! One of the cutest gift shops I've been to. They are the perfect place to go for special events. They have invitations, glass bottle decor, bags, jewelry and homemade candy. I checked out their clearance section and picked up an organic body wash for a great deal. The lady who greeted me by the counter was attentive and helpful. I was very excited to pick out my wedding invitations from an in-person store but ended up being sorely disappointed with the quality and service for the very expensive price. The store has hundreds of patterns to choose from the sales people are very knowledgeable but the invitations are extremely expensive comparatively speaking. After about an hour, my fiance and I picked our invitations, colors, and finalized our order at about $16 per invite. A few days later proofs were sent via email to confirm this is what we wanted and we gave the okay to print. When our invitations arrived, I expected them to be put together and perfect with just stamps needing to be put on and ready to send. I was disappointed to find that not only did I have to assemble everything for myself but the envelopes did not seal at all. There was barely any adhesive to these very expensive envelopes. I called our wedding planner who does business with them frequently to see if they could at least reprint the envelopes but they said they wouldn't do it for free. We had to get 3 types of glue to try to put these invitations together and they still wouldn't stick. Every single one of my guests said the same thing "The invitation was beautiful but it was opened when I received it." I was horrified to see how terrible they looked after all of our attempts to get them to seal. Do yourself a favor, use minted.com and save yourself the money and the hassle! read more

Girl General is a perfectly unassuming little boutique paper shop nestled in between Huebner and IH 10. I used these brilliant and insightful ladies for my daughters Bat Mitzvah invitations. Anne personally sat with my daughter and I and explained every detail.. even taking in and implementing all my daughters ideas. Even with the 1,000's of samples in the store... my daughter wanted something truly custom... and boy did we get that and more! Once the invitations went out, the calls never seemed to stop coming in about how creative, amazing and even more of how they had never seen such a unique invitation before. I couldn't be happier with the attention to detail Anne and her staff had with us. We look forward to our next event to share with Anne for a perfectly printed masterpiece. Love this store! I went in with a friend to help in her wedding planning and fell in love with everything. The selection of wedding stuff was amazing and the people were really friendly. They have a cat that greets you at the door and someone said she plays fetch. I purchased a Jon Hart ID wallet and some cards for Valentine's Day. I was so excited to try out this place and the way they conducted business was silly. First off it took me THREE WEEKS to get an "appointment" to see anything they have in store. Plus the numbers they advertise 1) they don't answer 2) is the shop owners personal cell who if you get the chance to meet will notice is the scatterbrained leader unfortunately in charge of the whole operation. The few times they did answer their excuse for not replying back via text or phone call was because they were "waiting for the girl who is in charge of the shop phone to arrive with the phone." Finally I decided to just pop up at the shop and I was able to make an appointment in which Anne told my sister n law and myself to come back the following week on a Tuesday and that I had plenty of time and not to worry. I also told her that I was worried because I went to another shop and a lady there told me vellum (which is what I wanted) was hard to get due to covid. She then said verbatim "oh where did you go moon mippy? Yeah she's an idiot she doesn't know what she's doing!" Tuesday rolls along. We get there at our appointed time and cooky ol Anne was there to tell us she had me down for Monday the previous day (which by the way they are closed on mondays and I pointed that out. Nobody is in the shop on mondays but supposedly she was making a "special arrangement for me" because when I told her I had been calling and texting for an appointment in the prior weeks I guess she felt some type of way over?) so I had to make another appointment. And honestly I hate putting all my eggs in one basket but they did have cute invites so I went with it (by now I'm literally three weeks off course for these invites) Finally, my appointment day has come! I'm so straightforward it's honestly a curse and a blessing so I went in designed the inivites in an hour. At the end she gave me a quote and said "don't worry we've done the hard part now it will only take about 5-7 days to get here" COOL!! 5-7 days sign me up!! When I tell y'all I started texting this woman March 3rd and I would text her paragraphs and I would get no response I mean it so 5-7 days was the light at the end of the tunnel! I would text and call for alternative options to lower the cost and no response. Finally I called the shop number and they changed my order to my liking and I went with it. Paid in full THAT DAY when they emailed me the invoice. I CALLED AGAIN just to check on my order and Julianna, a mini Anne, said they were waiting an "approval from me" to send the order out! THESE PEOPLE FIND EVERY EXCUSE UNDER THE SUN TO BLAME EVERYONE ELSE BUT THEMSELVES FOR WHAT GOES ON IN THIS SHOP! Not once did I hear and I'm sorry. Not once did I hear any suggestion on how to make the situation better. I told her I paid in full and if that's not the a-ok to get things rolling idk what is. I demanded a refund and heard someone in the background (presuming it was Anne) say invites were ordered and would be in Thursday. And now it's Thursday and no invites! Plus I called the shop and no answer. Ladies when I say SAVE YOURSELF THE NIGHTMARE AND HEADACHE please take my advice. I'm big big big on first impressions and this one will forever haunt me!! Needless to say I got the invites Friday (8 business days later) and they weren't up to par. The ink was missing in some parts, like from a home printer and the envelope lines I added looked like they were cut and glued on by a child. On top of that the adhesive to close the envelopes was non adhesive in most areas. Just save yourself the time and $$$ and look elsewhere read more

Anne, Eleanor, and their team have been extremely patient/kind during the entire process. Anne certainly took the time to walk us through picking out our invites and the extras. Eleanor made us THE perfect custom save the dates (we had kind of a unique idea in mind, and they made it happen). All-in-all they have been very knowledgeable and able to give advice/suggestions, when needed - not to mention they have kept up with me throughout. We received our entire order (invites, save-the-dates, match books and napkins) much faster than I could have ever hoped, and every is gorgeous! My only suggestion is to make sure you have an appointment! For the size of store, they are BUSY. . .plus it pays to get the 1 on 1 attention. I just wish that they were able to give me some 'food for thought' when I originally stopped in, but I understand. Ultimately, I could not be happier that we went with Girl General for our order. Everything from swag bags to invitations to envelopes and banding. They allowed us to bring them our ideas and incorporate into something really unique and special. The shop's owner made several mistakes along the way, each time finding a new excuse or attempt to blame anyone but herself, including her customers. I had high hopes for this cute shop that does produce lovely invitations, but the process of working with the owner, Anne, was disappointing to say the least. I would advise a couple looking to purchase invitations to do so elsewhere. For me, I know the last thing I wanted to deal with while planning a wedding was a vendor taking our hundreds/thousands of dollars, making mistakes, denying said mistakes, complaining about my edits (required due to said mistakes), insulting my mother (really), and behaving like a landmine I feared setting off. I felt I was walking a tightrope between getting the needed changes made so things would be correct and not upsetting this owner to the point where they made off with my money and set our invitations on fire out behind their shop. Edit: The lack of accountability and awareness exhibited in the below response I think illustrates the spirit of my dissatisfaction. Further, the shop owner did call me at work to tell me she didn't want to correspond with my "difficult" mother anymore, after mis-printing my ~$800 invitations, suggesting I had perhaps ordered the wrong color, saying they looked better in the wrong color anyway, and asking if I'd go ahead and use them as is for a 10% discount. There is absolutely no reason for me to fabricate this anecdote; my wedding is long over and we are paid in full. There is nothing for me to gain from making up a story about a deranged store owner calling me at my place of work and insulting my mother. Truth is stranger than fiction! read more

I've known Anne for years, she always gives me her honest opinion and in turn I always end up with an excellent result! Penny has worked for her for years and always takes care of me when I come in and call! Eleanor and Gaby are excellent in the back and whenever Anne is with a client or customer, they are always willing to step in and help me. I do wish they would carry a few more knick-naks and gifts that I could walk out with the day of instead of personalizing something. Poor service. Lack of accountability. No professionalism. My then-fiance and I spent nearly two hours one Saturday morning with a sales representative browsing wedding invitation styles and discussing wish list items. We came up with a solution that the representative accepted to execute. We left feeling great. Then, flash forward to the proofs - nothing like what we talked about. After going back and forth via email, we decided to stop in. We spoke to the owner and soon thereafter realized the issue with sales person was probably induced by poor leadership exhibited by the owner. She took no accountability for the mistakes, and offered no solution. She never asked how she could make us happy or rectify the situation. I will say so did comp the job to as she put it, "not receive bad karma," but that did little to ease our stress and disappointment in what should have been a warm, memorable experience for my now-husband and I. I DO NOT recommend Girl General for invitations. Grab a small gift item, and go. My advice for the owner: Talk less. Listen more. And, treat your customers like you truly care for them. I have been coming to the Girl General for 10+ years and have always gotten gifts, invitations and personalized items from them. I would never go to another stationery store in the city, they are the best! Anne and her team do an incredible job of making each customer feel just as special as the next, whether your spending $10 or $1000. My proofs are always on time and I always get my paper when they say I will. Once there was a mistake on both of their behaves ( I approved it and did not notice it!), and they corrected it for me without a problem. Important thing to note, I've discovered over the years of my working with them that they are not the best by phone and it takes a while for them to return a call. That being said, over the years they have suggested for me to contact them by email with corrections or questions, and I always hear back from them faster by email. I love their riffle paper, carry more please! And bring back Kate Spade! read more

I had heard great things about Girl General from several friends who had worked with them, so when I was asked to help with the gala invitation for a nonprofit, I suggested we work with Anne at Girl General, since she had done several invites for them in the past. I had the pleasure of scheduling with Penny, who followed up promptly when we had questions for Anne before the appointment. My coworker and I couldn't have been more impressed with Anne, and her ideas. She took the time to review what we had done in the past, and asked great questions to figure out what kind of tone we were looking to set for this event. She had some fun suggestions to take us in a slightly different direction than in previous years, which we loved. The end result showed she really listened to what we wanted, and we're so excited about the invite!
