Once we had ordered the food it took over half an hour for the food to arrive. I had fish and chips, the chips were lovely and I was happy they were home made, the fish on the other hand was very wet, flavourless and still had a lot of bones including the spine. One of my friends ordered the ribs which still had foil stuck the the bottom of them. Other than this we had a good meal.

And before you laugh about my critique on Indian food from a pub, I'd like to add I've actually had some good Indian dishes at pubs here in the UK! Sorry this one wasn't one of them. And from the looks of what my friends had at the time, they went with the more traditional menu items, I'd say this place serves your average pub food, for average pub taste, for average pub price.

Previously I'd say that they were a 'proper pub grub' place by which I mean well cooked but basically thrown into a plate. Now however they seem to have got their presentation down - I was really happy with the food, it tasted great (I had the half BBQ glazed chicken and it fell off the bone). There is plenty of parking, both next to the pub and a bit further up the hill and as you come down the bank your first view of the pub also provides a wonderful vista of the Deben estuary. Since there are moorings along this stretch of the river, the pub is a favourite haunt of boatsmen and the pub has a charming, un pretentious air about it. Food is good (with decent Suffolk portions) and the service is friendly and timely. It is a really nice pub to hole up in on a winters night, or on a sunny afternoon in summer - although it can get very busy on bank holidays. THe only downside is that, due to it being a bit remote, you will need to bring along a designated driver. I will admit to being a little biased, since I held my wedding reception there - and everyone commented on the excellence of the venue.
