I recently took a Adult Beginner's Sewing Class: Level 1 at Sew Fun. I have been eager to take a…read moresewing class and found a lot of local adult art classes near me fill up quickly. So I was really excited when I found this sewing lesson shop. It was $125 for three classes. I took Monday evening classes that were meant to be slotted for 2 hours, but our sweet teacher would go earlier and stay later to let us finish the projects. Do know that this is not a true beginner class. I wish they noted that you want to take machine fundamentals before, but as a beginner I was lost a lot of the time. Our class felt like it had way too many students at times, because our teacher took a 1:1 approach and sometimes you'd be waiting for her help for a while. This does not affect my review, but our poor teacher got sick before the second class, so there was a lot of rescheduling. She did her absolute best to accommodate us which was really kind. I wish in the Level 1 we got an overall explanation of how to do things so we weren't left lost and waiting for our teacher to help us. Do know that a good amount of the tools here are well loved. On my second class, I ended up at two broken machines and wasn't able to finish my project that night. Thankfully the teacher let me come early the third class to finish it. Each class you create a new project. We made a tote bag, a zipper pouch, and a little bucket kitchen bag. I think if I went in knowing more about the machine I would've had a better experience. If you're a true beginner, be sure to take fundamentals beforehand or learn machine basics first.

DISCLAIMER: This review is for 2014-2016. I did not feel comfortable writing it until after I was…read moresure my child would never again attend PSAC. It would be an impossible review to read if I tried to outline every single positive and negative about the location that we experienced in two years of attendance, so this is an attempt at a high level overview. Primrose made the top of our list when searching for childcare for our unborn baby. We poured over DSS reports, online reviews, and made several in person visits/inspections with our 30+ point spreadsheet/checklist. For us, Primrose was in a tie with another care facility, and the tie breaker ended up being that Primrose opened 30 mins earlier, stayed open 30 mins later, and provided a hot lunch. The building was usually very clean and orderly. On inspection, the staff was very friendly and the children appeared very happy. We were told that the infant's Lead Teacher would be taking maternity leave soon, so there would be a different Lead Teacher when our child was due. We were excited that this location offered sleepsacks, sign language lessons, advertised talking and singing to babies during feedings and diaper changes, provided bedding and almost everything we needed. No lugging a suitcase to daycare on a daily basis! And the curriculum looked amazing. We were sure our little one would be on the right path for a successful start! Since I worked from home, I would make it a point to stop by, unannounced, at various times throught the day just to checkout what was going on at the school. Unfortunately, what we found in the infants room were stained blankets with holes big enough for a baby to stick their head through (strangulation hazard) and no sleepsacks to be found. A nicely designed curriculum that wasn't being implemented. Doors and windows propped open with 90+ degree temperatures outside, with no concern for child safety, heat, or bugs. Lead Teachers who were inexperienced and barely over 18 themselves were left to care for vulnerable infants who couldn't verbalize their needs. We looked up several of the teachers from Primrose and they had some pretty offensive public profiles, which really made us question the hiring practices and background checks at PSAC. And we never interrupted anyone talking or singing to babies as they were fed or changed. There was an incident where a 1-2 YO child fell and bumped their head, according to the incident report. A day or so later, another teacher reported that the child had NOT fallen down, another teacher had "accidentally" pushed the child down in a moment of frustration. That teacher was 'removed' from the classroom and put on leave for a day or two, and then moved to another classroom. But that teacher eventually wound up back in the same classroom with young kids that can barely speak for themselves. Finally, in the 2 years we were there (we were on a waiting list at other care centers for almost a year), there were over 20 different staffing changes in the 3 classrooms we attended. The staffing turnover felt like a clear reflection of unprofessional management and disengaged ownership. We felt like the owner was completely uninterested in child care and this was purely a business venture. And all of this turnover caused our child to have a terrible time with potty training as there can be no routine when staff are in constant flux. IMHO, I really hope things have improved, but if things are still being managed the same, I would look for somewhere else to care for my child.
