The owners of this location, Allison and Annie, have treated my 4-year-old daughter and I with such hatred. After months of harassment and name-calling, the two women proceeded to forcibly remove my daughter from this school without cause or reason. As a mother and an educator I do not recommend this school for your precious children. On one occasion, I witnessed Allison become very angry with my sad child as I left for work. She proceeded to grab my daughter's arm and scream "No!" As you can imagine, this broke my heart. On another occasion, Annie left a voicemail on my phone labeling my daughter as a "bully" because she had a difficult time sharing crayons, as coloring is her favorite activity. My father (also an educator) and I immediately arrived at the school to express our concerns. Allison and Annie were argumentative and continued to name-call without remorse. In addition to these terrible circumstances, this school has closed several times due to rising Covid cases within the classroom. The school does not enforce mask-wearing in young children. They have admitted that my daughter is "great" at wearing a mask but other children are not. When inquiring further information about how I can protect my child, Allison left me an angry voicemail demanding that we meet. She proceeded to send an email that stated: "After much consideration we unfortunately have made the decision to terminate this relationship effective immediately. We will mail your daughter's things to your home." Sadly, we are not the only family who has experienced such hatred from Allison and Annie. Many families of whom we are in close connection to also admitted how terrible the treatment is. Please do not send your children to this school. These two women appear to be kind with a smile, however, they are extremely mean-spirited and harass parents, especially hard-working mothers. I have made several attempts to contact the corporate offices, as well as the general manager, Nicole. Unfortunately, there has been no returned calls or emails.

The teacher of the week would forget to give my daughter the full lunch I packed, or routinely misspelled her name on her worksheets, or forgot to take her to the bathroom while she was potty training. They insisted they would keep an eye on that class, and then reported that they didn't see any signs of abuse. They also lied to me on the phone while I was watching the events unfold live on camera. When I would bring up an issue with the admin team themselves, they would blame the teachers and then tell the teachers I was mad at them, forcing them to apologize. Absolutely toxic. The playground has one play structure with one slide. During the summer, they took away the gymnasium room from the younger kids, so they were stuck in their classroom all day. The owner was given ample notice so that a replacement could be found. We were required to pre pay two full months in advance and requested our money back (not a small amount for 2 kids approx $3,700). The owner stated she would not return the money even though no services were provided as we paid months in advance. This was frustrating and we went through the proper channels bringing her to small claims court. We won our case and were awarded the full amount by a judge. The owner has still refused to pay even though she is court ordered to do so. In fact there is a sheriffs sale being held at her property as a result. The owner and business itself are not hurting for money by any means as the owner drives an $80,000 suv. Also we were willing to work with her and be understanding of the pandemic by only requiring half of our money back, she refused leading to the court case. The owner is extremely dishonest and spiteful and utilizes unethical business practices. I would recommend finding another facility so that you will never have to experience a situation like this.

At Growing Tree, I felt at ease right from when I walked through the door for that first visit to check the place out. The staff is incredibly friendly and each and every one of them cares a great deal about their work and approaches every day that way. My daughter grew to love it very quickly while the staff was very accommodating of my overly concerned checking in on her during the first couple of weeks. The facility is spacious and has lots of natural light, great toys, and a large outdoor space (which also has lots of nice equipment). They are also fully supportive of cloth diapering, which was great for us. The staff was very responsive any time we raised any concerns (which was very rarely) and always wanted to work with us to make things better. The prices are also incredibly reasonable considering the quality of the services provided. Finally, the daycare also puts on lots of great events and excellent programming for the children of all age groups without any added cost. My daughter is now 2 years and 4 months old and I'm devastated that we have to leave Growing Tree because we are moving to Chicago for my job. Growing Tree was one of, if not the best thing for our family about living in Philadelphia and I have no doubt that had we stayed here she would have continued there right through their pre-K program. In the time we were at Growing Tree, my daughter went from being a baby who could barely roll over to a toddler who plays in the sand and talks about everything from kitties to stoplights and the teachers and staff at Growing Tree were there for every step of the journey nurturing her development and helping us so much along the way. But, I take some solace in knowing that her time here has built a foundation for the rest of her life--not just because she learned how to drink out of a cup or sit in a circle, but because she also learned how to have a friend, how to treat people with respect and kindness, and what it means to be a part of a community. Especially now, the world can be a really horrifying place but every now and then you come across people who make you feel good about humanity and I felt that way every time I dropped my child off or picked her up at Growing Tree. The people there have changed my daughter's and our lives for the better and she is just one of hundreds of children who will get to benefit from being in such a nurturing environment thanks to their selfless efforts.

Children begin their day by singing ridiculous songs about sharing and mutual respect, and are fed terrible snacks conjured up from some liberal health nut's cookbook: something like California Raisins and saltines. My kid may have scurvy for all I know. No gluten or nuts are provided due to other student's allergies. IT IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD. From there, it only gets worse. instead of learning useful skills like mathematics and balancing a personal checkbook, the kids play silly and aggressive games like duck duck goose and "Baby in the Air" whatever the hell that is. It sounds like abortion to me. The instructors, and I use that term loosely, spend at least a half an hour reading to the children instead of trusting in their own abilities to make out the meanings of books by helpful pictorial guides. Then, after lulling the kids into a state of hypnosis with soporific stories and undernourishment, the teachers tell the kids they can just pull out a sleeping bag and take a nap. These are kids, aren't they? They have LOADS of energy and don't need to be treated like hungover teenagers. Besides, I don't want my young boy coming home energized by preschool after I just spent a 9 hour day at work. I want him to feel like he learned something, exhausted by the new and fascinating world set before him, not amped up on games, puzzles, building blocks, and world literature. After my son's dental shanking, ER visit, and five stitches, the school had the NERVE to settle this between us and the little bastard's parents. and when pressed by his "attorney" father and "interior designer" mother, do you know what that wretched boy claimed? He claimed he bit my son after my boy kissed his girlfriend and pushed him off a swing. EWW. The fact that a four year old would even imagine having a girlfriend offends me. The school must be promoting sex or showing one of those subversive Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid: both trashy films about interracial dating and bestiality. So you heard it here first. Ignore the overall five star rankings on Yelp and take it from me. Miss Joan's Little School is garbage and creative learning breeds violence and promiscuity.
