They also seemed to think that we signed up for drone piloting to learn how to fly drones. They didn't seem to get it when we tried to tell them that we all (yes, every single person in the class) has a better, more advanced drone at home. I tried to tell my parents not to send me here because I had already been there a week, but they don't offer refunds and it's too expensive to just not go. There are other things that went wrong too: Not allowed to sit in the shade at recess Not allowed to sit next to a computer while using it Not allowed to fly the drones outside I wasn't allowed to use the bigger more advanced drones that they had because I (specificly me) "would break them" Instructors seemed to hate specifically me, idk why. Not allowed to report cheating during the minute to win it Minute to win it took 50 minutes (note - this was a major issue, camp would have been MUCH better if it was shorter).

While the mission is truly incredible, our experience as volunteers didn't reflect that. We often felt unclear on expectations, received little guidance on working with the horses, and experienced inconsistent communication. At times, interactions felt distant, which made it hard to feel fully welcomed. Our final visit to the garden club--where we were initially told it was "full" without prior notice--ultimately solidified that this wasn't the right fit for us, though we appreciated Erin stepping in to let us help. That said, Monica and Dylan were wonderful and very supportive. I genuinely believe in the mission and hope the volunteer experience continues to improve with more structure and communication.

Perhaps the facilities aren't as new and pretty as some of the North Fulton stables, but I can definitely say her Camp experiences were night and day from one in Milton (2010, very basic) versus Falcon Ridge (2011, more fun for her, more in-depth lessons). Watched my 8 year old ride in the covered arena on a rainy day - an accident waiting to happen. I…read morecould hardly watch. The horse she was on seemed distracted and she couldn't control it. Her young "trainer" just kept yelling at her to use her legs, but I could tell she was frightened and didn't know what that meant. The part of the covered arena she was using wasn't entirely covered, so the rain was still getting in, there was lots of mud that her pony did not want to go in, and yet she was with 3 other riders who were having their own lesson using one jump in this tiny area. One of the other girls almost ran into my daughter and then her trainer yelled at her! There were 8 other riders, with 2 different trainers who, maybe because they owned their own horses, were lucky to have the rest of the covered arena although there were lots of horses and riders charging around. What a mess! 12 horses, 12 riders, 3-4 trainers, parents everywhere - chaos. Maybe this place is ok when it's sunny and they can use different riding areas, but things seemed dangerous - I wasn't the only parent that was anxious! Finding somewhere else to ride.

Great to know their is a camp with so much to offer with huge legacy of YMCA. They also have a soccer program & other sports programs that many say is great just did not interest my daughter.

The coach was good with the kids, and everything seemed to run as smoothly as it could. Unfortunately, this second season has left me greatly disappointed. I wasn't as happy with it in general as I was last year, but that is fine. I was still planning on signing him up again next season. Recent events have made me change my mind though. At the end of October, my son took a direct hit from a soccerball to the face during practice. After walking it off, he seemed okay and continued on with the practice. The next day, we get a call from the school nurse. She tells us that he has a headache and he is disoriented. We pick him up from school and take him to the doctor, where we discover that he has a concussion. The doctor says that he needs to refrain from soccer until the follow up visit the next week. I don't hold COY responsible for any of this. Things like this happen in sports all the time. We knew that when we signed our son up. We emailed the coach to let him know about our son received a concussion at practice and of the doctors orders. We told him that we would not be at practice that Friday or the following Monday, nor the game that Saturday. We did not receive a response. This bothered me, but I let it slide. I still received emails from the coach addressed to the team regarding practices and games, but nothing about my son. We took our son to the follow up visit a week later, and the doctor said that he was better, but still recovering and that he would have to sit out the rest of the season. Again, I emailed the coach to update him on the situation. This time I asked him to let us know how he would like us to finish out the season. Again, I did not receive a response. The last game of the season was last weekend. We still haven't heard from any of the coaches. There were three of them, and none of them could be bothered to make a phone call or send an email. Earlier this week, we sent an email to the director of the youth soccer program. We still have not received a response. COY is not responsible for my son getting injured, but I am holding them fully responsible for the lack of communication of their staff. I suppose that the COY youth soccer program is decent enough, just don't expect them to care if your child gets injured on their property while participating in their program. If that matters to you, you might want to find something else for your child to do.

I would budget at least 2 hours here or as many as 3 if your kids are going to interact with the butterflies and the turtles and do the scavenger hunt as mine did. The indoor exhibit is small but charming and there are a few native species around. The downstairs education center also does a scavenger hunt every month which is really cool. They've done an amazing job of "gamifying" nature/science learning with their points based rewards system and natural objects exchange. We learned a lot about butterflies and caterpillars on our quest. The points thing goes a long way to motivating little ones that may be more skeptical about "learning" experiences and museums. But if you have kids who are more active and will walk, the variety of local trails contained within the nature center is quite nice. I would recommend coming here for adults without kids too for this reason. I heard there were little fairy houses somewhere too here but. I didn't see them. We saw the beaver, a variety of different birds including hawks and owls, and tons of other local animals. It was cool to see how intentional the design was of the outdoor sections and the map they give you at the gift shop/ticket counter is helpful. I also like how they have lots of play areas built in outside for kids to explore in a less structured way. They also have some nice picnic spots. Staff were friendly and helpful. "Feeding" (with the little sugar sticks) the butterflies was fantastic. Even on a hot summer day, I'm super glad we came and if it wasn't so far from where I lived I would attend more regularly/become a member.

For being a place for creative oulets, you'd think they'd pick a more creative name than....The Art…read morePlace. But honestly I don't blame them. I think this place has been around since forever, right behind the Mountain View Library. They offer painting, sketching, clay, theatre, and music classes; I tend to find that it's more theatrics than actual drawing classes offered. I've stayed away from acting and music, but they have productions and dinner&shows every season for the public to go to, at $5-$15 per show. The classes are great- but it really depends on your class, really. I've only taken painting, portraiture, and clay, and clay was the worst of them all. Enjoyable? Yes. Would I do it again? No. I don't even remember the instructor's name. My only quip is that for each class, the fees never seem to end. Registration (late or early), actual class fees, baking fees, and oh, the -supplies-! The supplies list never ends, I swear. For pencil portraiture, I thought you bring a pencil and eraser, and a pad. False, it's like 20 different types of pencils, graphite, special erasers left and right, specially bound pads, tissue paper, paper stubs, special ink pens and tips, and oh my god, these things cost a fortune! I just want to draw! Ahem, anyway, the painting guy was ok, but the star of the show is Kip Rogers- after all these years (it's been like 10), I still remember how well he taught his classes and I want to go back, even if this place is about a solid 45 minute drive from where I live now. His class is 95 for first timers and 70 for returners. At that price, it's a freaking steal! (Well, at least for that class....) The Art Place is a special place to me- back when I still drew all over the place, I had been able to be part of some of the shows there, and I appreciated that. You could always walk in and see art from the locals. After all these years, the many of the artists teaching there are still there. Now on to convincing the boyfriend to take these classes with me....
