Stopped for breakfast on Labor Day. it was very busy but service was excellent. Had delicious Bloody Mary's to start. I had a sausage breakfast sandwich that was only $7 and so good. The 50s/60s decor is so cute!

Very nice place, food and service in Tower. Just wish they were open more. Everything in Tower seems to have very limited hours even coffee shop and grocery store.

Great spot for lunch or happy hour. The food is delicious & service is excellent! The bartender (Mickey) took great care of us. We had the special which was Western Burger (2 patties, cheese, bacon, chipotle seasoning, and BBQ sauce) & we upgraded to Ranch fries. I highly recommend their award-winning Bloody Mary! House mixed with Absolut vodka and garnished with celery, beef stick, pickle, grape tomato, green olive and served in a salted chilled glass. (If you want more garnishes, they will blow your mind with asparagus, shrimp, Chihuahua cheese, and more!)

Too bad the good ol days have passed.... just as you should pass by this place. We came here to try the famous Bloody Mary that we had heard so much about. Personally, it was one of the worst bloodies I've had. Sure, the presentation is pretty good if you can get past watching the bartender put his fingers all over every piece of food that he strategically places into the glass. The lemon wasn't fresh and the rest were regular pickled items, except for the chunk of chocolate (which I admit was a nice touch.) The taste of the Bloody Mary itself was just not good at all and def needed some Worcestershire sauce as well as other things to add flavor. If you want a great bloody, go to The Penalty Box in Eveleth. The main decor was neat and the bathroom decor was humorous with scantily clad men in the ladies' room and bikini babes in the men's room. When we asked if they served any craft beer the bartender didn't know what we were talking about and the rest of the bar-goers giggled/scoffed at the request. We ordered cheese curds and they were good. This place is in desperate need of ventilation and a fan system in the kitchen. The entire placed reeked of smoky grease and I feared our clothing had absorbed the smell when we left. Also, it was dirty and dusty. It took 10-15 minutes after our drinks were empty to get our bill, and it was not busy at all. (There was one table of two and six other people at the bar.) There were two bartenders at the end of our visit and neither asked if we wanted another drink.

    Not a good sign.

Not family friendly -- scantily clad pinup and beefcake posters in the restrooms. Waitress charged us full entree prices ($9) even though we ordered kids meals ($5). Never returned to refill our waters. Both waitresses smoking on breaks. Grimy tables and floor. Regretted not driving at little further to Ely for local beers, better food, and attentive service.

Get the Cuban and leave smiling. Nice people in a fun dive bar atmosphere. Make sure you get a photo with Elvis on the way out.

Great owners, excellent food and service. Best breakfast on east side of Vermilion. Glad they kept everything the same as previous owner.

STAY Away! I know…read morewhen I read reviews, it's helpful to have lengthy descriptions of the food and atmosphere. But I'm just not willing to spend more time typing than the cooks spent cooking my food. We tried this place twice -- once for dinner and again for the breakfast buffet. Both instances, the food was barely tolerable and my entire family walked away hungry rather than continuing to eat what we ordered. The Tamarack is inexpensive but I suspect its the only way they can get people to eat there. I'm not a snooty eater -- I love Waffle House and iHop for breakfasts but even the Tamarack was able to make breakfast food unpleasant (pancakes were crusty, ham was fatty, oatmeal was nearly solid, fruit was from a can, etc. etc. Do yourself a favor and avoid. On the second day we managed to find the Vermilion Club for dinner and SuLus in Tower for breakfast...both a welcome change from the Tamarack

All the entrees in the buffet were fresh, hot, and quite tasty. Only the bacon was overcooked, but a lot of people like it that way so it probably is not an issue. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Compared to the crappy expensive breakfast we had the day before at another local restaurant, for $5.95 this was a huge value! Compare that to your average mediocre-at-best chain restaurants. The dinner also was very nice with a large variety of fish, seafood, ribs, steak, chicken, etc. Everything we tried was very good including the fresh green beans. The salmon was excellent as was the catfish, the ribs were very good, the seafood was fried but of a good quality, the steak was surprisingly good, and the deserts were very very good. Nothing bad to say at all about this buffet for $11.95. The casino is just a typical smokey casino as you would find anywhere in the country.

Loony's Brew is a laid back dive bar / pub located in the quaint village town of Ranier, Minnesota…read more To be more precise about Ranier, MN, it's situated right beside the once bustling industrial town of International Falls, MN...just 3 miles away. And, lol, in the bigger picture of it all, if you're visiting International Falls, MN, you're most likely in this remote part of Northern Minnesota exploring Voyageurs National Park. That's where it started for me. I had just completed time at Voyageurs NP and while speaking with a representative at the International Falls Chamber of Commerce, they recommended stopping here at Loony's Brew. Once in Ranier, parking was difficult, but I found a spot across the train tracks. I didn't mind walking 10 minutes over to Loony's as it gave me insight into what made Ranier unique...definitely a small town/local vibe as if I had stepped back in time. Loony's appearance on the outside reminded me of a simple summerhouse cottage along the waterfront with a dock in the backyard for accessing Rainy Lake. Overall, it's like staying at a lake house in the countryside. Although there's no official sign for customers to know they've arrived at Loony's Brew, there's a wooden post hanging by the entrance with a message stating...."PUB, BEER, FOOD, WINE, GOOD TIMES". Loony's has a playful/old fashioned bar kind of feel. You could sense the owners knew the specific tone they wanted to provide for patrons. The bar has an assortment of homegrown, locally brewed beers on tap....According to their website, they feature - "American, Hoppy, Belgian, Stouts & Porters, Fruits, Gruits, Lagers, NAs, and Barleywines". Loony's is decorated with classic guitars, vintage license plates and loads of symbolic mementos dedicated to their history. There's a back/rear section area featuring a billiards table, jukebox and dartboard. Situated all around are high-top tables and chairs. Plus, there's a small corner for showcasing local bands and musical acts. I ordered a beer, took it outside and walked across the street to the Brew Deck Bar area for enjoying views of Sand Bay beside Rainy Lake. The setting was pleasantly quiet. There's even a little pier where you can walk towards a rustic lighthouse. Overall, Loony's Brew is a worthwhile place to come after your discoveries at Voyageurs National Park. It's a no hassle, no fuss brewery that embodies the blue-collar town of Ranier, MN.
