Been here a few times which isn't bad for an ex local. Owner is a unique woman, rather bitchy and stand off ish with non locals until my family members arrive and it's like we went to school together: Had a great time with family. Food was meh, nothing great just regular bar fair with less flavor. If only the food was a spicy as the owner. Long story short if you're a local please go. I'm sure it'll be fine. If you aren't from the area find a better local like Thirsty Moose which has top notch wings and amazing service this place can take wait til the next owner as this one shouldn't be in charge. Oh..:side note if you pay with a card they unashamedly and unannounced to anyone charge you a 4% surcharge. Just another half ass place that could be better. read more

I ordered the wings, they were pretty good. However it did take about twenty five minutes, but that isn't bad considering there were ten of us. To my disappointment the hunting game in the corner was out of order. The bathrooms were pretty clean and had a fun chalk board on the wall inside. There's lots of cool things hanging on he walls in the dining area. Outside they have a volleyball court. I was really disappointed not to get the opportunity to play volleyball. Overall the service was pretty good. The wings were good as expected considering the South Switch is known for their wings, pizza, and burgers. I'm giving this place a four based on what it offers. Obviously it's not a high class restaurant, it's a bar. I think they use being by a railroad track as an advantage because the inside decor has a lot of train themed items. There is a hunters feel with the deer and fish on the wall for decorations. They have a nice outside area to eat and even have a volleyball net. I came in a group of ten and everyone was finally served in 30 minutes which isn't bad at all. their menu had a variety of things, like many appetizers, hamburgers, soups, salads, and pizza. They specialize in wings so I had ordered the "Grumpy Gary BBQ" wings. With that meal they gave a large number of wings. The reason it's not a five star is because of the meal. The South Switch has always had great food. It's a very typical bar/restaurant of Northern Minnesota. It's right next to the CN tracks. Trains will stop sometimes and get food delivered to them. Haven't been to the switch for a couple of months now and I'm getting really hungry for one (or 3!) of their burgers. I travel for a living and eat at restaurants three or four nights a week. All manner of restaurants all over the country. None make a burger as good as The South Switch. None! The combination and preparation of meat and bun is perfect. No need for catsup or mustard; in fact, condiments would just mask the incredible flavor and texture. I wish every night were burger night! read more
