(they have walkers and other aids to daily living). You drive into the old ambulance bay at the General Hospital. You are directed to the elevator and go down 1 floor. Follow the signs. Check in at the front desk. Wait for your item to be brought to you. They will go over the paperwork with you. You get to use the item for 6 months. You can apply again if the items are needed for a longer period of time. You will be encouraged to make a donation to the Red Cross. They ask everyone. I dropped off an old walker instead of giving them cash. They are grateful for any donation. This was an easy chore, but I would have liked an offer to lift the wheelchair into my vehicle. I'm not sure if that help is available.

Then they tell me that I can call once I am there like WHAT! I don't have a phone sorry on Aish. With Smith's cuts we cant even afford to eat, never mind have a phone. Then they tell me that I will have to pay then to send it into a taxi cab like WTH . I am not paying nothing u don't want the stuff back I will drop it off at goodwill where people will come take it out of my vehicle the minute I drive up. They seem to be great at getting the items to people but totally shite the bed on when items need to be returned and lord forbid u are Handicapped trying to return stuff as they are not set up for that. Also do not call the company that deliver's the stuff to people when the RED CROSS loan it out, as they also are rude and treat people TERRIBLE. Finally she explains that they have nothing to do with RED CROSS they just deliver( yet there name and phone number is all over the paper work.) for them and that yes I can drop it off to them but they also will not come out the get it from vehicle and they will charge u to drop it off to them! Shocking really when all a person is trying to do is get the stuff brought back so others can use it.

We can't say enough about their kindness and concern for our welfare while there - it was truly "awesome". The premises were clean, comfortable and always #1 (a home-like atmosphere). I spent 10 days in hospital at the U of A in May iof 2010 - had major cancer surgery and upon being discharged I was asked to remain in the city of Edmonton for another day or two - we booked at the Guest Home - as I arrived my comfort was their upmost concern. Because I was unable to do the stairs to the lower lever, I was asked to use their bedroom and offered a soft warm comforter to help keep me warm and comfortable. They receive food donations from all around the County, as well as working with other organizations to share and swap depending on their needs. The Food Bank has a long respected history in the County and provides an incredible number of food to people each month. Some are people who visit the Bank regularly and others come and go because they have hit a rough patch.

They do not make you feel any less of a person because you access the service they provide unlike other places I had to access and only visited once! I was astonished at the amount of foodstuffs that I received and the other little things they have in their office. I took in a number of things that I received as gifts that I can't use and they are placed on their shelfs for others to take. The dedication of the volunteers here is phenomenal and the smiles contagious. Thanks to everyone in the county who donates as well.

The YWCA's counseling services are an extraordinary blessing for women who are struggling, at a time when benefits and access to health care are not universal. You pay what you can. The staff are excellent, trained professionals and the structure of their programming allows up to 10 visits with an individual counsellor. The structure is so to provide support in facilitating self-discovery and positive changes in client's attitudes and life. The YWCA also has amazing girl power programs, a woman's retreat center and entrepreneur program.

They have a resource library, evening classes, inclusive employment and educational workshops. I haven't been exposed to all of the facets of this organization, so I can't speak to them but I am pleased with the program that we are in. My husband and I are taking a class on Transitioning to Adulthood. Our facilitator is excellent and we are meeting other people who have the same issues as we do. If you are not sure how to help your loved one with developmental disabilities this would be a good place to start.

I have been fortunate enough to come to Ronald McDonald House twice now. Tonight, I had the…read morepleasure of cooking a ham & turkey dinner with my fellow Yelpers for the 60+ residents. I was blown away by both the facilities, the amazing staff, and the beautiful families & the love in everything they do at RMH. From the amazing Quilt Room where each child and/or sibling gets to select a handmade quilt to keep forever to the "Magic Room" which was like a mini Toys R Us for special occasions, celebrations, and cheering up kind of days. The only requirement for residents to apply is to live more than 45 minutes away and have a child under the age of 18 being treated at the hospital. There is no time limit - they are welcome to stay until the child is discharged. There is underground parking, a gym, play rooms, media room, family style professional kitchens... The list goes on and on. Every inch of the RMH is filled with love. I feel privileged and honored to have served so many wonderful families supper tonight.

This facility is wonderful for families who are in Edmonton because their children need medical attention and who need accommodation for their stays. Each apartment within the house has many amenities, there are sitting rooms for socializing, rooms for the children to play and enjoy themselves and of course the Home for dinner program that prepares home cooked meals for the families to enjoy. I always enjoy cooking here and/or doing any other tasks that the house needs and while the home gets a lot of organizations in (particularly on the weekends) to do these tasks, all the help is very much appreciated and follows food safety and other important standards. This is incredibly important given the nature of the families' stays in this facility.
