I have heard about this place as being one of the best mountain bike areas in the Country. I feel fortunate to have found HRMBA and, more specifically, Greg Galliano. He was wonderful in helping us have the most amazing experience as we rode through incredibly beautiful areas in the Post Canyon trail system. Greg knows this area very well and did an excellent job showing us the best trails for our level of experience. He can accommodate all levels of ability. Whether you are beginner, intermediate, or an experienced rider, this is definitely the way to go! We rode mountain bikes which were in new condition and had the latest in design and technology (loved the hydraulic brakes and dropper seatpost!!!). Greg was fantastic in offering a few tips here and there to help me be more efficient on the bike, which I really appreciate. Without a doubt, taking a guided tour with Greg was much better than we could have done on our own with rental bikes and a map. The trail system at Post Canyon is complex and he has local knowledge and resources to ensure an incredible experience for you. I purchased a Groupon to go rafting with Portland Rafting, but when the booking directions on their website failed to accept the code, I called their customer service for assistance. What should have been a quick, exciting booking call turned into one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've ever had. I was unfortunately met by someone named Scott, who claimed to be the owner. Given his unbelievable lack of professionalism, I find that hard to believe. From the second he answered, Scott made it abundantly clear that my call was an inconvenience to him. He was dismissive, uninterested in helping, and outright rude. When I calmly called him out on his attitude, instead of offering a standard professional response, he showered me with childish excuses: "Oh, well, it's just a busy morning" and "Oh, well, dude, it's not that big of a deal." Continually calling a paying customer "dude" and telling me to "chill out" is completely unacceptable. When I attempted to address the situation like an adult and requested a genuine apology for how I was being treated, he refused to take accountability. His actual response? "Not going to do that." It is disgusting to treat customers this way. If you are frustrated by honorably fulfilling Groupon vouchers, don't list your business on Groupon in the first place. More importantly, someone who lacks the basic maturity to handle a simple phone call should absolutely not be trusted with people's safety on the water. Save yourself the headache. There are plenty of reputable rafting companies in the area--take your business to literally anyone else.

I was very nervous, as I'm a wimp and haven't rafted in about 15 years. They outfitted us in helmets, wetsuits, and booties. Mike J (MJ) was our guide, and one of the other employees told us we got their best guide. Mike was extremely patient and explained everything in detail. He showed us how to stay in sync and how to go down the Class V waterfall, Husum Falls. Larry in the kayak followed behind us to save us in case we fell out. Luckily, we didn't, thanks to our awesome guide. The waterfall is optional, and they gave us a lot of prep for it (there's a special stance for going down). We even got out of the raft and went up on a bridge so we could watch kayak Larry go down the falls. Mike told us it's the only rapid of its kind in North America. We had to go down; I couldn't miss out! We went down, no one went overboard, although two of us hit our heads on something. Still worth it. The trip was totally exhilarating for the first half, and calm nature-watching for the last portion. The waterfall marked the half point. During the first half, Mike was all business trying to prevent us from dying. We could relax a bit more during the second half, and he gave us some history about the area and pointed out the wildlife. It was hilarious when the visiting Canadian geese kept honking and flying away from us. The beautiful scenery surrounding us as we rafted down the river made it a perfect day. I definitely recommend All Adventures Rafting. The trip wasn't too scary once we got going, and the cold water felt great on the hot day. The staff is friendly, laid-back, and knowledgeable. They seemed like cool people, and worked hard to give us a safe and enjoyable adventure.

TLDR: Mostly great trail except it passes directly by the dump and has terrible signage…read more I had read somewhere that there was a 7.5 mile trail from Riverfront Park to The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. From Downtown The Dalles, I had an easy time finding the trail, and finding my way to Riverfront Park. According to the map, the dam is only an additional 2.5 miles east of the park. But, the unpaved section of trail about a mile past the park had a lot of glass and other debris in it, so I decided to turn around. Heading west of Riverfront Park, I had a hard time figuring out where to pick up the trail. There is little to no signage. I kept riding past the dump, thinking, "This can't be right," and turning around. Turns out that the trail is just past this. So, ride until it smells really, really bad. Ride until it smells like death, and then turn right when the road runs into the Google data center. This is where a small aux trail runs from the wide paved Industry trail to the real Riverfront trail. The section from Google to the Gorge Discovery Center is by far the best section of trail. If I only had an hour or two to do this trail and knew everything I know now, I would park at the Discovery Center, and ride from there. Between Google and the river, there is a mini bike park with tables for snacking and stretching, a water bottle refill station, and a bike repair station. There were a lot of older couples and children walking along the trail, so this is not necessarily a great trail for riding fast, but it is very pretty. The views of the volcanic bluffs and basalt deposits along the river are unique and distinct from the rest of the Gorge. Due to the recent fires, a lot of the trees and shrubs on the east side of the trail are currently missing. Even though that's obviously sad, it's resulted in amazing views of the river from the trail. The very last section of trail climbing up to the Discovery Center is a kind of brutal switchback. Coming back down the other way, I got hit by a strong gust of wind that I swear almost blew me straight into the river. I would be very cautious about riding with small children in this area. From the bike trail, you can see so many things that you can't see from the road. There are lots of little inlets full of moss and birds that you would never notice from the freeway. Overall a very pretty trail except for the ride by the dump.

Located in the Columbia River's edge, the Riverfront Trail in The Dalles offers expansive views of…read morethe Columbia River, the basalt cliffs along the Washington side, and The Dalles Bridge and powerful dam with lots of wildlife to see along the way! The ten mile trail goes from The Discovery Center to The Dalles Dam Visitor center winding along the southern bank of the Columbia River. The path is paved, which is why I like it, and it's about 10 feet wide. Plenty of room for those walking, biking, pushing strollers or walking with pets. There are often eagles soaring above, especially from November through January when migrating eagles stay here to feast on the fish and critters. If you go at dusk, there are 50+ nesting in the trees in front of the dam. During the summer, there are hundreds and hundreds of pelicans. They are fascinating to watch, their fishing skills just incredible. They stay together in their flock and when they are hunting, it's a sea of these big white birds diving in and out of the river. Winds can be fierce in this area, which means the current on the river is equally fierce so be aware! And careful. There are also deer in this area which means ticks so wear socks, long pants and stay in the trail. Make sure to check yourself and your dogs after walking especially if you are your pets wander through the grasses. Located off exit 85 on I-8, it's easy access while driving through this area or staying in The Dalles. It's part of Riverplace Park so there are shaded areas with picnic tables, public restrooms and plenty of parking.
