Pretty stoked to have found Bike The Gorge in my search for an e-bike test ride. Riding an electric bike through the glorious Columbia River Gorge has got to be one of the best ways to cover ground while still being able to smell the roses in this awesome area, and BTG had a decent selection of steeds to meet my needs. Their tour offerings look even cooler, with a bunch of different options (varying in duration and destination), but I chose the self guided tour option before coming back to the shop and then doing a separate test ride on a different bike. Their bikes are all fairly new and up to date, well taken care of and prepped, and come with luggage and locks -- and the customer service I got from the friendly woman who greeted me was outstanding. She set me up, explained the bike and the route and gave me a number to call if anything went south. My Aventon Pace was clean, stout and powerful enough to handle any of the grades I came upon, though it was heavier (and heavier steering) then I liked. I was much happier test riding the new Lectric XP4. A nice rig! The shop itself is a pretty basic setup - a large open bay tucked into a nondescript row of metal industrial warehouses on the other side of the train tracks (literally), a bit east of Cascade Locks main drag. It's a small mom and pop operation, which is fine by me -- it always means better service. (BTW, booking a tour or test ride online is super easy, with availability shown in real time. I'll discuss nitpicks with their website down below) The good; -A nice selection of clean and up-to date electric models, from adventure to cargo to trikes. They're all well-maintained and outfitted with luggage and bike locks. -Owners are great; helpful and knowledgeable and ready with info. - You get to ride unbelievably scenic parts of the gorge no matter which direction you go. The shop provides good directions and destinations at a fair price (if you're doing a tour). The bad: - a better variety of bikes would have been nice. Almost all the e-bikes were of the fat tire type; some hybrids or cross bikes would help round out the options, and a more in-depth description (and corresponding photo) of specific models available on the website would be helpful too. Type of bike, features, weight, best-use, etc. But it was still a great day in the Gorge, cruising on an e-bike, and I'd use these guys again. read more

Thanks to "Bike the Gorge" I had a unique, exciting and fun bike trip which doesn't compare to any other biking experiences I know. In the lead up to my experience with "Bike the Gorge", I had decided to do a day trip at the gorge months out from my work trip to Oregon City. As a nature lover and hiker it was a perfect opportunity to experience one of the most beautiful landmarks in the US. Biking seemed like the perfect way to experience the gorge across a greater square feet without the use of a car. Though "Bike the Gorge" normally has a different pickup spot for bike rentals they were kind enough to let me pickup a bike at Cascade Locks since it was close to the CAT busline. That I am super appreciative of. Once I got to Cascade Locks the service men there were super generous. Though I ordered just a few snacks they threw in enough meats and cheeses to satisfy two riders! They were kind and made sure I felt as comfortable as possible. The trail they recommended was awesome. On those dedicated bike paths you get straight views down the gorge where the water lifts the sky. There were a handful of hop off spots to view waterfalls without a crazy hike. At the very end of it there were hiking spots where you can view mountain flowers and nature! It was honestly the best bike trail I have ever been on. Now I did make a mistake which I believe "Bike the Gorge" warned me of... I did over use the battery. I got cocky and on my way back to Cascade Locks I used up more and more of it until It completely died. I thought it recharges a bit if you manually bike but it didn't really help. Luckily though the worst uphill parts of the trail were behind me and though I was a bit late to returning the bike to "Bike the Gorge" they were completely understanding of my situation. Rented 2 e-bikes for a weekend cruise around the gorge. Everything was awesome. Easy reservation process, easy to locate for picking up the bikes, great orientation and then a really fun ride. The half-day package was just the right amount of time for us including a short hike to one waterfall, viewing the other waterfalls, some pictures, and me being a scaredey-cat coming down the hill. Most important - the seats are wide and comfy! You might still be a little saddle sore if you don't ride bikes much, but they are about as good as it gets. From the pick up point, it's 4 miles of low-traffic streets to get to the trail. There is one pretty big hill - it's no problem to get up with the e-bikes, but it's a little scary coming back down! Then you're on a mixed use trail the rest of the way. While you can access that trail by car at various points, I've never stopped at any of those points and it was exciting to see some new-to-me waterfalls and to stop and overlook the gorge from the trail bridges that I've only ever seen from below. My husband and I rented e-bikes today from Bike the Gorge as part of his birthday celebration. We had a great experience!
