We were wandering around the Byward Market when we decided to grab some food, and we all agreed that pizza would hit the spot nicely. The Grand Pizzeria seemed like a terrific option, and it didn't hurt that we'd be ordering during their version of Happy Hour. We eventually opted for the Italian Pepperoni ("mozzarella, Italian pepperoni"), and also got the Spring Salad ("mixed greens with balsamic dressing") to share. Both items were very tasty. The pizza arrived hot and fresh, and while it didn't blow me away, it definitely went really well with the pint of beer I had ordered. The house-made hot sauce elevated it considerably, too. The salad was excellent as well. It was full of fresh greens and beautiful little cherry tomatoes, and the balsamic dressing was superb. The service was terrific, and the ambiance was comfortable. And the price can't be beat; we got all that food (plus my beer) for less than 40 bucks. The Grand Pizzeria is a cool spot, for sure. read more

We ordered a white mushroom pizza and wings. The dough was a little lacking and it was a bit floppier than I'd like. The wings were small, but the hot sauce was great! We got the chicken pizza which was decent, it could have had a little bit more flavour to it but I did have to remove the onions because they were a variety I'm allergic to, so maybe that's what was missing for me. I would definitely eat here again in the future and try out some other options as it looked quite good. Decided to try this Italian places. The ssltaff itself does a good job, service isn't amazing but good, which is ok. Tried the cauliflower bites appetizers. There were correctly coated and cooked. The little dipping sauce that they're served with really matched well. We really enjoyed them. As for the pizza, I tried the Italian pepperoni pizza. I don't know if there's sauce in the pizza, I couldn't taste it if there was. The pizza itself is ok but very salty, like everything is full of salt from the crust to the toppings. It's not the worst pizza I've eaten but it wouldn't be my first or even second choice. The pizza itself is a little burnt on the sides so are the peperoni even if the crust is soggy and soft. Also tried the carbonara pizza and was pretty the samething, very salty, soggy... If you like salty pizza, thin crust, soggy soft crust that you can't really take in your hands, that's the place for it. As for myself, I'll go elsewhere for a pizza. Maybe pasta and other stuff are good so if I go back, I'll be to try something else. read more

We made just in time for their happy hour which is a fantastic deal. $5 draught beers and half off select pizzas. Couldn't ask for a better deal! They have a great selection of beers and to get such good beers for $5 is pretty awesome. We got the mushroom pizza and pesto pizza and both were absolutely delicious. They got their famous dipping sauce which is made in house and that took the pizza experience to the next level. No doubt that this is an upscale restaurant for a pizza place. You will appreciate the contemporary decor and atmosphere, as well as the great service offered here. Great place to hang out with friends, even a family, just be mindful that finding parking in the Byward Market can be tricky. There were numerous varieties of pizzas that I have tried: the Diavola, the Pesto, and the Margherita are the ones I can recall. Of these, the Diavola was my favourite due to its tender salami, but the Margherita is a great vegetarian choice. However, these are quite expensive for the portions they offer; you would have better value from other wood-fried pizza parlours nearby, such as Pi Co or Fiazza. tl;dr I would recommend dining here, but not ordering out. read more

Visited the Grand on a Friday night in September. The bar is in a great location, has a nice big patio, is good for people-watching, and the service was just fine too. We ordered the nachos and two cocktails. The cocktails were good. The nachos were honestly ludicrous. I rate them a 5.5 out of 10. They made no sense. Myself and two others went here for a late lunch around 3PM for happy hour. We shared a pitcher of white sangria, a family sized Rigatoni Al Pollo Pasta, and a Carbonara pizza. Taste 5/5: Everything was delicious! The pasta had a nice creamy sauce, and was very generous with the amount of chicken in the pasta. Loved the pizza as well, especially the thin crust. Would definitely order these again. The sangria was good, although would've been better if fruit was added. Price to Portion 4/5: The portion of the pizza was good for the price ($21.99), could definitely just be shared by 1-2 people. The pasta family size was pretty big and could be shared by 3-4 people, however I do think the paste was a little over priced at $55.99, considering pasta is a very inexpensive meal to make. While the pasta was delicious, it wasn't anything special that should be priced that high. I've also read that the individual portion pasta size was a bit small especially for the price high price of $21-$27. Ambiance and service 5/5: Very nice and cute ambiance indoors and has a great patio. Service was also great, friendly staff, but do note I went during very un busy hours. Overall 4/5: I would definitely go again and would want to try their tomato based pizza and pasta. I think the move is to share a few dishes with others. The grande is decent. The menu items seem great on paper but they don't really execute. It's not a foodie or culinary must see but it has a great happy hour. I believe the sangria is 20 at happy hour but 27 regular and it also has pizza on special. The dishes were dirty and the service was only okay. I ordered the pasta because it looked the best on yelp and it was decent... not as good as it looked in the photos. If anything that means that the quality is just dicey and inconsistent. Last night we came here for the first time with new friends before a show at the OAG. It was their first time as well having recently relocated to Canada just before the pandemic. The service and food were stellar. I called a day in advance to make a reservation, but the waiter told me on the phone that I didn't need a reservation and to just show up 10 minutes earlier than I planned to. True to his word, the restaurant was not busy when our friends met up with us at 6:00 on a snowy Friday night in March. We were seated right away beside the bar in a nice booth and served drinks quickly. The waiter didn't even blink when my husband mysteriously asked for an empty glass and pulled out his own can of caffeine-free coke zero, but offered to pay for a drink anyways (he's caffeine-sensitive but loves coke with pizza). Our waiter laughed and said it was no problem. We splurged and ordered calamari and sangria to start. The calamari was lightly battered and flavourful and the sangria was not too sweet, the pitcher huge and flowing. And then came the pizzas: Meatlover's and Diavola for our friends and my husband and I had the The Grand and the Diavola with extra cheese, respectively. They were about 10" and laden with deliciousness, cooked perfectly with a little char here and there for extra flavour. It reminded me of my favourite pizzeria in Seattle, Big Mario's. They did not scrimp on the cheese, either. We had a great time with our new friends and it reminded me of the good old days before the pandemic. This is a fairly upscale pizza place. The decor is very nice. I went with my wife and two friends. The service was excellent. My pizza was decent, but I think I ordered the wrong one for my tastes. But I tried a bite of my wife's diavolo and it was very good. For me, though, it's not worth the price. It's a wood-oven fired pizza place, but you'll pay $8 or so more per person than you would at Fiazza for a similar product. Actually, it's not quite as good, because at least at Fiazza you can have whatever you want on the pizza. Here, they only offer you a choice of about ten different kinds. So if you are willing to pay more for the ambiance, it's fine. But if you want variety or value, I'd go to Fiazza, which is only a few blocks away. read more

Not a bad spot for a good pie and easy to get to if you are already at the CF Rideau Mall or the Byward Market in Ottawa as they are just located between both venues. This is my second time here and from what I remember the first time about 3 years ago that they have great pies. This time it was fairly busy and there was a small wait for our group of 7, luckily most people want to sit in the patio as it was a really nice day. We were seated in a booth shortly after and our server was there right away to take our drink order, we basically bombed her with our order because we needed to hit the road at about 8:00 pm to get a good spot to watch Symphony of the Sky which is a fireworks display. We didn't have to wait too long for our drinks and appetizers. We had ordered the bruschetta and a family size Caesar salad, both starters were delicious but the salad dressing I liked the most as it was a homemade dressing not out of a container. The tomatoes were very fresh and sweet mixed with a bit of tartness and didn't make the baguette soggy. I had the Zingara pie with hot salami, bufala mozzarella, fresh basil, oregano, and shaved Parmesan. I really enjoyed this pie very flavourful with the fresh basil and oregano and the crust was thin. My wife had their Rigatoni Al Pollo and the portion was a very good size, this dish had chicken, crispy bacon, basil in a cashew cream. I think their portions here are very generous and will cook your meal to your dietary restrictions they are very accommodating. Great place to try if you're ever in the are. read more

Also, the waiter reeked of cannabis, every time he came over to our table he brought this 'skunk' smell with him. I don't understand that he's allowed to work like this. This is our second time eating at The Grand located beside the Byward Market in Ottawa downtown. The food and service were phenomenonal although it was super busy for a Saturday dinner at 7pm. Initially we wanted to try something new as there were quite a few groups in line ahead of us. However the wait for our table of 6 only took 5 mins as there was a large seating area (inside or on the patio). Shortly after being seated our waitress brough us all glasses water and took our food and beverage order. The wait time for our appetizer (Ceasar Salad and bruschetta) took approximately 15 mins. Than we waiting approximately 30 mins for our main dishes to arrive. We were a little disappointed that they do not offer warm bread with butter on the side before our meals. We shared the family size Ceasar salad which was outstanding. The dressing was house made and very flavorful. The bruschetta on the other hand was just a bruschetta...we mainly ordered it for the little child that loves to eat bread. As for our mains, my husband and I shared the Zingara which was hot salami, bufala mozzarella, fresh basil, oregano, shaved parmesan and the Rigatoni Al Pollo which was chicken, crispy bacon, basil in a cashew cream. Both our mains were super delicious. The topping on the pizza and pasta were both very generous. If you don't eat bacon, ask for a substitute, they made one with chicken and mushroom and the pasta taste just as amazing. We stumbled on The Grand Pizzeria at 4:30ish during their "Market Hours" 3 to 6, when pizzas are half-price, Kichesippi Beer and house red and white wines are $5, and Sangria pitchers are $20. Score! Their pizzas are in the classic Napoletana style and are wood-fired. Simply put, Napoletana style requires fresh ingredients FROM ITALY. The taste is amazing. I had their Pesto: basil pesto, bufala mozzarella, and cherry tomatoes. Not overpowering ... the perfect mix to taste Pesto but not smell like it! My wife's Calvini, mozzarella and Italian sausage, was also superb. Side note: I'm addicted to their in-house "Famous Hot Sauce." It has a warmth (but doesn't burn) and this orange, peppery concoction goes great with the pizza. Lastly, high recommendations for the chocolate-stuffed, vanilla whipped-cream-covered Profiterole. I had supper tonight at the Grand Pizzeria & Bar in ByWard Market. They cook their pizzas in a wood oven. I love love love pizzas and ordered a Meat Lovers pizza. It lived up to its name as it had a lot of meat. They make their pizzas in the Napoli tradition and put fresh prosciutto on top after the pizza comes out of the oven. I wasn't crazy about it.
