I dropped him off around 9:00 a.m. and was contacted around 11:00 a.m. and asked to pick him up. I was told that someone in the back had determined that Harley was not suitable for their program because he "did not participate with other dogs." The reception staff was professional and courteous when I dropped off and picked up Harley. However, I was very disappointed that I was not given the opportunity to speak with a qualified staff member who had actually observed Harley. I was told only that he did not "participate," but I received no explanation of what that meant, what they had observed, whether Harley was anxious, shy, simply uninterested, or whether there was some other concern. To my understanding, Harley was not causing problems or misbehaving; he simply was not participating with the other dogs during the evaluation. If that behavior made him unsuitable for the program, I would have appreciated a professional explanation and perhaps some guidance about whether or how that behavior could be addressed. I believe good communication is especially important when evaluating a young dog. I left feeling that the decision had been made without giving me enough information to understand what happened or how to help Harley. More information and the opportunity to speak with the person who evaluated him would have been greatly appreciated.

This is in direct response to the person who recently posted about his wife feeling uncomfortable around one employee, Chris. First I'd like to say that I have been going to the Planet for years through several generations of dogs. I love the service I get there and how good they are to my dog. The owner Steve is super nice and he and his employees absolutely love my dogs. You get such a personal touch there and there is very little turnover among employees. Steve hires dedicated workers like Jordan who covers all morning shifts and some afternoon, and Chris who was (but because of that review now no longer is) covering a couple of afternoon shifts. He stepped in for another great employee James when James hurt his leg. Chris comes regularly. He's on time. He's very good with the dogs. Folks, this is a gem of a business. The employees are not transient people who don't care about you or your pet. They offer very hands on service and your dog will tell you how much they love going there. Second, Chris didn't deserve this. He is a very friendly guy. He is not inappropriate or scary. I'm a woman. I've met scary and it isn't Chris. He overshares a bit, yes, and he talks about his personal life, yes. Sometimes you just want to get your dog and go. I'm not minimizing the experience of this one customer if she was uncomfortable. But these are not high paying careers these guys have. It's a hard job with no thanks surrounded all day by smelly, barking, pooping dogs! They take great care of our animals and I am so, so grateful for everything they do for me. And for the fact that Steve runs a stable business with workers who like him. They like our dogs. And they work damn hard for us so I can go downtown 3x a week and make a living without worry that my dog is at home eating the couch. I'm very sorry to see Chris go over this. I liked him and liked hearing about his baby boy, his car troubles, his life. I will miss seeing him on Monday evenings and I wish him well wherever he winds up after this. I will continue to patronize the Planet because it's just so much more personable and caring than the expensive box places that churn through dogs and workers without caring about anything but making a buck off you. That is not Planet Canine or anything Steve or his workers would ever tolerate.

One of them (15y/o) has been going to Romar for over 10 years, the other (1y/o) just a couple times last year. The second I turn up the gravel road for Romar, my dogs get so excited! I consider this place a doggie vacation spot because there is so much room for them to run around and play. It's totally worth the drive up here to know my dogs are safe, sound, and most importantly super happy. My only complaint is my younger pup has come home from Romar with a couple ticks before.

Even tho my husband had visited with the owner and introduced our dog to her, prior to making arrangements, to confirm that she would be ok with her staying there- when I dropped her off a couple of weeks later both the owner and the help denied that they agreed to take her out by herself (yeah, she's elderly and needs a little special care) and come close to rejecting my dog. I think they were afraid of her age (she's home sleeping now) and maybe she would die on them, who knows. I had to call my husband ( who already had flown out) who convinced Marsha to board our dog. I wouldn't have left my dog here, except that I was 3 hours from my flight time and had no other options. It all turned out ok, except that I left there in tears as the way I was treated by the staff completely stressed me out. Needless to say we haven't brought our dog back and now board her at a different Novato b&b who "gets it".

I'm surprised this is the first yelp review!…read more LegUp has been a lifesaver. Our dog Taffy goes to playgroup at Leg Up 2 (sometimes 3) times a week when I have very long work days. I get home too late to pick her up from other doggie day cares, but I don't have to worry about that with Leg-Up, because the service picks her up and drops her back off at home. Toby, the owner of LegUp, brings the dogs (I think there's a morning and afternoon session) to a private dog park in Greenbrae. And Taffy is so happy! She has started waiting and whining by the door when she thinks Toby is on his way. The socialization is great for her. She loves dogs and going to LegUp has made her comfortable with pretty much every dog she meets. She has even almost started fetching, after playing with the retrievers in her playgroup. Toby is really accommodating and LegUp is more than reasonable. About four hours of playtime (and transportation) costs less than the going-rate for a half hour to an hour long private walk. I also have had my schedule change at the last minute and Toby has been able to add Taffy to the group for an extra day during the week with less than a day's notice.

They noticed a small spot on my dog's skin that I missed--that vet tech background is invaluable! He is a full bred German Biewer Terrier with beautiful long black, white and brown hair on this torso, head, ears and tail. When I picked him up 20 mintures later after a text saying he was ready, he was still in the back as they were putting "a bow on him." I said "Don't put him in a cage" Thier response was they had none. They had numerous cages that I saw in the back room. Lie#1 When I arrived they made me pay before I saw him. Alarming. When he was brought out they had CHOPPED HIS TAIL, the long hair on his EARS, HIS HEAD AND TOP COAT IS UNEVEN AND THE CHARM OF THE BREED WITH HIS LONG SILKY HAIR IS GONE! I left as I was so upset and returned an hour later when I was more calm. They didn't apologize but said we had asked for a "Puppy Cut". LIE #2. My dog is 11 years old. WE NEVER ASKED FOR A PUPPY CUT nor had heard of it!! This was my first and last time to this place. Yes, I know it will grow but that's not the point. It's like giving your kid a buzz cut "by mistake"!!

They offer so much more than just dog walking -- it's kinda like sending your dog off to day camp. If I'm at home on a day when Michael's coming, I already know when he turns onto our street because Roxy gets all excited. Then she just trots off with him without so much as a backward glance. He's the perfect combination for her, gentle but no-nonsense. Michael is both incredibly flexible and dependable, which is great for me because my schedule changes frequently. You definitely get a lot for your money with Michael. When I travel, whether I'm gone overnight or away for several weeks, Roxy always stays with Michael and Peter. I never have any concerns. I know Roxy will come home tired and happy.

We did a "test walk" where she brought our dog and myself with her small group of doggies. Since then she has been walking our boy for a year. Sid is dependable, reliable, and trustworthy. She has been completely devoted to our dog and is very intuitive knowing what's up with him. She's extremely easy to get ahold of and proactive with followup. She's great with the dogs and able to take care of special needs. My one complaint would be that I wished she worked weekends! Sometimes I work long shifts and am gone all weekend- even if my partner's home it's nice to have someone else help and take the dog out. Sid is so great we wish we could hire her every day of the week. I would recommend Sid as a provider for your dogs 100%. It's been a great experience working with her!
