My dog Iris and I are regular clients of Planet Canine. I feel the need to post today and update my previous review to express my continued STRONG support of this small, local business. This is in direct response to the person who recently posted about his wife feeling uncomfortable around one employee, Chris. First I'd like to say that I have been going to the Planet for years through several generations of dogs. I love the service I get there and how good they are to my dog. The owner Steve is super nice and he and his employees absolutely love my dogs. You get such a personal touch there and there is very little turnover among employees. Steve hires dedicated workers like Jordan who covers all morning shifts and some afternoon, and Chris who was (but because of that review now no longer is) covering a couple of afternoon shifts. He stepped in for another great employee James when James hurt his leg. Chris comes regularly. He's on time. He's very good with the dogs. Folks, this is a gem of a business. The employees are not transient people who don't care about you or your pet. They offer very hands on service and your dog will tell you how much they love going there. Second, Chris didn't deserve this. He is a very friendly guy. He is not inappropriate or scary. I'm a woman. I've met scary and it isn't Chris. He overshares a bit, yes, and he talks about his personal life, yes. Sometimes you just want to get your dog and go. I'm not minimizing the experience of this one customer if she was uncomfortable. But these are not high paying careers these guys have. It's a hard job with no thanks surrounded all day by smelly, barking, pooping dogs! They take great care of our animals and I am so, so grateful for everything they do for me. And for the fact that Steve runs a stable business with workers who like him. They like our dogs. And they work damn hard for us so I can go downtown 3x a week and make a living without worry that my dog is at home eating the couch. I'm very sorry to see Chris go over this. I liked him and liked hearing about his baby boy, his car troubles, his life. I will miss seeing him on Monday evenings and I wish him well wherever he winds up after this. I will continue to patronize the Planet because it's just so much more personable and caring than the expensive box places that churn through dogs and workers without caring about anything but making a buck off you. That is not Planet Canine or anything Steve or his workers would ever tolerate. read more

Each time my wife has gone to pick up our dog, one of the employees (I believe his name is Chris) has made inappropriate and uncomfortable remarks to her -- including asking for her number and making personal comments about her appearance. Planet Canine is the absolute BEST! Steve, the owner, James and Jordan and everyone who works there are so wonderful and care so much about the dogs they are taking care of! We have been going there for three years and our dog, Evie, absolutely loves it there! Our pup has been doing regular ongoing daycare and by now Planet Canine is our go to for doggy daycare and also for boarding when we are out of town and we have never had a bad experience. I have now been taking my pup on a sporadic basis for the last 8 months so ready to review my experience. 1st of all, no negatives at all. Every interaction I have with either of the owners or the daily caretakers working there has been very pleasant. In just the 1st or 2nd visit they determined what group of dogs my pup would best interact with. He is a Whippet puppy so they put him with the high energy dogs and it is great at the end of the day when I pick him up and he is nice and tired from playing with his friends. Frequently they send me a YouTube link to a video of him playing with them. They have even sent report cards describing his day. As you may be looking at this review many years later, I won't bother putting the rates but at this time the rates are extremely low for what you get. How does this place have good reviews? Super creepy. They won't let you take a peep and see where you are leaving your pup unless you "schedule at least 24 hours in advance". Dogs sound sad. We love Planet Canine! Tigger (our 8-month-old Whippet puppy) is super energetic, and they made sure he would fit right in from the very beginning. Polly was very helpful with all the questions we had before bringing him in. I love how they send videos of your dog each visit; it's so nice to see your pup having so much fun with other dogs. The play area always looks clean in the videos, and while Tigger sometimes comes home a bit dirty, it's nothing like the horror stories I've heard from other facilities. They also let me know at the end of each day whether Tig was a good boy (always yes, somehow ;]). They offer grooming and nail clipping as well, which we took advantage of one weekend. He came home sparkling clean with his claws trimmed (and far less dangerous). I would recommend this place to anyone with a dog! read more

Allow me to begin by saying that I am extremely protective of my 3 1/2 year old Sheepadoodle, Elio. I don't have children, so my dogs become in a sense my "children". I think some of you can relate to that. I have been bringing him to Planet Canine since he was a young puppy 4-5 days every single week for daycare. I would not be such a dedicated and loyal customer of Planet Canine if I didn't trust the staff and facility implicitly. I pulled him out of a nearby competitor before coming to Planet Canine because of a mishap that occurred between Elio and another aggressive dog, so I wouldn't hesitate to do the same if Planet Canine weren't a top level business. Every member of the staff care deeply and genuinely about every dog they welcome to daycare and boarding. They don't accept just any dog, but put each through a behavioral analysis before accepting them. They even have an outdoor space, unique to doggie daycare facilities that are in the heart of a city (as opposed to in the country). So what if you have to make an appointment to tour the facility? That way they can plan around their daily routines for caring and overseeing the dogs. It gives me tremendous comfort to know that my dog is their top priority when under their supervision and responsibility. He can't wait to get out of the car every morning to run into Planet Canine which says everything I need to know about what goes on behind the scenes. And imagine how may day is lifted when I'm at work and I receive a video of Elio having the time of his life playing in the courtyard! We have been coming to Planet Canine since late 2014/early 2015 and it literally saved our marriage. We had recently adopted a 1 year-old dog who had serious separation anxiety and he was eating up our house from the inside out. Enter Planet Canine. We have been taking our dog to Planet Canine for all-day puppy care for almost seven full years now... almost every weekday. Osito (our dog) LOVES it... he knows when we're getting close by and he starts pacing back and forth in the car in anticipation. Steve and all of the staff at Planet Canine love the dogs and make sure they get what they need - to run around with other dogs and have fun and get exercise. It's absolutely fantastic. A number of other doggy daycare sites have opened up, but I wouldn't ever consider them - Planet Canine has won us over for life!! read more

I live in southern California but drove to Mill Valley to attend a wedding. Whenever possible, my dog Leah goes with me on my road trips but of course she had to be kenneled during the wedding. Leah has attachment issues and also has not gotten along with other dogs since we went through Covid . . . when we were unable to socialize our dogs. I must have called half a dozen places in the area looking for a place that would keep her away from other dogs. Every place I called said they wouldn't take unsocial dogs until I called Planet Canine. Steve and Jordan both assured me and re-assured me that Leah could stay with them and that they would keep her safe and away from other dogs. Nevertheless, I was nervous about leaving her overnight. During Covid my Standard Poodle Gus had been home with me for over a year since I was able to work remotely. I had to start going in the office once a week and sometimes more. Since I didn't want to leave Gus home alone all day, I decided to look into doggy day care. Gus has not been socialized in over a year which was a big concern for me. I contacted Planet Canine "Polly" and told her my concerns. They worked with Gus and he is now completely comfortable being around other dogs. He gets so excited when he knows he is going to be dropped off. He even tries to get in the door before they open it. When I pick him up he's happy and tired from playing. As stated in the previous review, the only down side we found to boarding our hounds with PC is that they smell like they've been living a wild dog party pack life while they're there--which is pretty much how it works at PC and why they love it. But, boy howdy, they morph into two odiferous, frankly rank canis domestici--as disgusting as 5 day old chicken bones left to fester in the kitchen garbage. Two pee--uuu pups! Luckily, Matthew T., one of PC's former employee's tipped me off. If requested, PC will bathe your blissed out but stenchy friend(s) the day you pick them up so you don't have to make an immediate stop at the dog wash on the way home. After being gone for 5 days the last thing we wanted to do was have to schlep the dogs over to Pet Food Express for a bath. PC did a great job with their care and our olfactory bulbs sighed a sniff of relief when we got them back clean and newly washed. read more

Our experience with Planet Canine was so-so, and so we've decided to start taking our dog elsewhere. Planet Canine, if you're reading this, here's why: Our first weekend with you was fabulous. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Our dog was happy when we picked him up. Great! We took him to you again another weekend, and it was completely different. Staff was spacey and indifferent. When we picked him up, we were charged for more than the previous stay, and more than what I had been quoted when I made the reservation. Pop music was blasting in the back where the dogs were (obviously for the enjoyment of the workers, not the dogs). Our dog was howling in the back when he heard us arrive, and my boyfriend actually heard someone in the back snap at him, "Hey!". When they finally got around to bringing our dog out, he was a bundle of nerves. He obviously had not been exercised enough that day, and was desperate to leave. They gave us his food back, and had not used all of it, even though instructions were clearly written on the bag. So you didn't feed my dog enough--that's a pretty big oversight. Maybe it's just the guy who was running the place that weekend, but it was enough to make us not want to come back. read more

Five stars to you, Planet Canine! Yogi had a great time - came home happy and HEALTHY! The staff was great - took my phone calls during his stay and reported good things. I also really appreciated the fact that they recognize that some dogs (like Yogi) aren't into the whole dog-social thing 24/7 - they prefer the human touch - and allow these dogs up front to hang with the people. I know Yogi had a better time away from his family because of this. Another thing I appreciate is that Planet Canine is about the DOGS - not about FRILLS for the dogs. They don't need a fashionable couch and plasma tuned to Animal Planet - just some space to play, a warm place to sleep, regular meals, and some love. That's what they give here, and for a great rate. I'm from So Cal and I was in town visiting some friends, and I couldn't bare to leave my dogs marlana and missy at home by themselves so I figured Id just try to sneak them into my hotel room or find a hotel room that allows pets. Well most hotels don't allow 2 dogs in one room, only 1... so instead of being worried sick about hiding my dogs in a hotel room for the night, my friend insisted I check Planet Canine out... I've never left my dogs overnight before at a place i didn't know of so it was a little scary for me. My first reaction was similar to another person's review that the place was not AS visually attractive as I would have hoped BUT i have definitely seen worse... But once inside, the attentive and knowledgeable staff calmed my nerves and made me feel comfortable to leave my dogs there. I saw all the larger dogs and was scared that my two little ones would get eaten alive! but they were able to give me a piece of mind and I even saw that someone was attentively watching the dogs at all times when they were outside of their kennels. Not watching TV or doing something else. The next day when i went to go pick up my dogs, they were sooooo happy! it was like a mini adventure for these homebodies! I would definitely return! So don't judge the book by its cover cuz the good service definitely makes up for it! read more

I have two large St. Bernard's. They LOVE their day at Planet Canine. I bring them here every time it rains and now have created a Pavlovian response. Oh boy! RAIN! Time to go play with our doggie buddies at Planet Canine! We love our human friends too! Steve will rub our bellies and Bill will play with us! When I pick them up they are always exhausted, smelly and very happy. Snacks, blankets, dog friends and human companions. Greatest moment of my puppy life! Can a dog's day get any better? I also use Planet Canine when our human overnights do not allow for our puppies to come along. The boarding is very affordable and they have a great big kennel where my dogs can sleep together. I love Planet Canine! I have been using their services on and off for the last year. I recently moved to San Mateo and went on vacation in March for two weeks. I drove the two hour round trip up to San Rafael, just so my dog could be there while I was gone! Not only are the employees friendly, laid back, dog-loving people, they definitely go up and above to make their clients feel appreciated!! In December, before leaving for the holidays my Christmas gift from Planet Canine was a free day of daycare! When I went out of town for two weeks, the owner called just to say he hoped I had a great vacation! When I picked my dog up she had ran out of her prescription food and they went to a vet to get the exact kind she needed. When I went to pick her up, I offered to pay because I felt so badly that they had ran out, but they told me not to worry about it! My dog always smells after being there all day, but that is expected given that she has spent all day playing with other dogs! The only downside: they aren't franchised!!! None the less, whenever I am going to be out of town for a few nights, it is worth the 1-2 hour drive to take my dog to Planet Canine! read more

Once again these guys at planet K9 have never let me down. I trust these guys more than myself with my dog. Steve is the hardest working manger I've ever seen. He never complains and always has a smile on his face, especially when he see's Paisley and Timber. I have referred numerous peolpe to them with great confidence that they will not let them down.
