Here's to you Great American Beer Store! For letting me buy my first Sunday beer. Sure it was cheap (PBR), but hey, it was for kickball. And we all know drinking cheap beer is a step (perhaps a small one, but a step nonetheless) above drinking water while playing kickball. We pulled in and decided to attempt your drive-thru. We actually had to drive through the parking lot, back into the street and then into the drive-thru line. (Kym B is not lying - this is not a place made for multiple cars to drive through.) But, as we drove away, 12 beers heavier and 8 dollars lighter I felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction. The inside seems like it might be sketchy based on the outside appearance. However, the man working there was super nice, lamenting the fact that he couldn't have a TV to keep himself occupied during the slower parts of the day and making general conversation with us while someone else got the cold ones for us. Strange fact - they didn't have the 12-pack of beers. They gave us 2 sixers instead. And it's true that they won't let you pay with credit cards in the drive-thru line (unless you have kids). read more

Isn't it funny how, when you're a Yelper such as myself, you immediately start thinking about how each and every aspect of your interaction with a place will factor into your upcoming review? I pondered this as I sat in my car, third in line at The Great American Beer Store's drive-thru window, the ass-end of my Rav4 hanging out into Westbound Alameda traffic. "This is so not safe," I thought to myself, sneaking a glance at my sleeping baby in the back seat. However, for those of us who often find themselves running errands avec bebe, drive-thru liquor windows are a godsend. I mean, nothing's trashier than grabbing six bottles of Boone's Farm Apple Wine Product while wheeling a stroller. Just because we're parents doesn't mean we don't need to get our sip on! In fact, we might need it more... *smirk* But I digress. The Great American Beer Store has TWO drive-up windows, but today only the one closest to the street was open. Hence, the precarious position in which I found myself. You can only sit two-deep in that line for the first window without hanging over the curb and into traffic. And I thought to myself, "this is totally going in my review. One star, DOCKED!" But eventually I got up to the window and was reminded why I patronize this place so frequently. A little sign to my left read: WINDOW IS CASH ONLY, CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED INSIDE. Oh no! The cashier lady smiled at me though, and said, "don't worry... we make exceptions for people with sleeping babies." Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about! Because, after all, I was indeed-y picking up six bottles of Boone's Farm Apple Wine Product. Don't ask. Prices are cheap here, and it's definitely THE place to go if you need a keg for a party. It's also THE place to go for Boone's Farm. Shocking, but can you believe not every liquor store carries it? Criminal, I say! Extra bonus points for the guy with no teeth who always has treats for car-riding doggies. It's that little extra touch that means oh-so very much. read more

This place was a little wacky. It's a drive-thru beer store, and you can't go wrong with that, but for whatever reason I'm averse to any drive-thru's so I went inside. Let me start off by saying that the employees are incredibly friendly and helpful. A litte offbeat maybe, but friendly and helpful. I was in there on a Tuesday and I was looking for a microbrew. I ended up with some Alaskan Amber which is alright. Even though it's called the Great American Beer Store they're a little lean on the microbrews. No problem, though. The guy at the counter was pretty animated. I asked him how he he was doing. He told me he'd be a lot better in a few hours because he was out the next day. I think his word words were something like "Tomorrow's my Friday. No, wait, tomorrow is Wednesday so today is my Friday. Today is Friday." On the way out the door, a guy who had the demeanor of either a manager or an owner wanted to know if my beer was cold. I told him it was and he insisted that it be cold, and I insured him that it was. When he noticed that it was Alaskan Amber he wanted to know if I was interested in the the summer ale. He said he had one six-pack left, but it wasn't cold. So we both ended going back in to look for it. Never found it though. Anyway, both of the people in there were pretty funny and friendly. No better place in Denver for kegs ... really don't know about anything else, but have been getting kegs here for 15 years and I always check other places, but they consistently have the best prices and selection of anywhere I try ... some of the larger ones might have a slight edge on selection, but not prices ... I am giving 4 stars based on the fact I don't really know how their other prices are and they do so much business they aren't going to hold your hand with questions ... read more

For kegs, this is the best place to go in the city. They always have specials and it's centrally located compared to Keg Liquors or any of the other big liquor stores that sell kegs. Their keg prices blow especially Argonaut away. Plus they have a drive through for all other alcohol purchases. read more

I love this store. The smiling staff always works with me to figure out what I want, and if they don't have it- they will find something else that works for me and then order what I asked for. The tall Asian guy definitely knows his wine, and even the guy who has a hard time with perfect English doesn't quit or rush me until we figure out what I want. They have the best deals! I always find great beers here at the best prices. The staff is super nice, especially Mark - he goes above and beyond for everyone. Don't be intimated by the surrounding area, it's a fantastic place to shop. read more

This store is in a sketchy location, has a questionable storefront, a questionable interior....and is one of the best liquor stores in Denver. They are one of the only places that sells home kegerator pieces, and their staff are VERY knowledgeable (especially Mark). My customer service experiences there are the best I have had in any business, anywhere. They go above and beyond to make sure you have what you need, and that you leave the store happy. They have a customer for life in me, and I can't recommend them to enough people! read more

So I call these guys on a Tuesday looking for a Keg to pickup for the weekend. The guy who answers the phone tells me that they need to special order the keg I'm looking for but it is no problem and will be there. I'm on my way there on Sunday to pick it up when I call them once more to check and make sure. Guy answers the phone and says "nope, we don't have that beer and need to special order it." Right - that's why I called on a Tuesday. Thanks for nothing. Off to Applejacks... read more
