The staff were efficient and runned off their feet, but could do with a smile. The food was as good as any Chinese restaurants and the portions huge. We doggie bagged several containers from each table. We had plain chicken and duck. The roast pork is a specialty of the house and is definitely good. We liked the beans fried with mince. Prawns on a tofu base. Fish cooked in two styles, deep fried and stir fried with vegetables. Eight dishes with rice came to NZ$23/- per head. The event venue can seat about 160 people. The food is good for wedding dishes. Service was okay and below par. They didn't come around to gather the small plates for the second main courses to be comfortably delved upon eating on the large plates below the small. They were running around serving the dishes and picking up the dishes. I didn't even bother to ask for water refill and tea. The highlights were the fried lobster balls, lobster with long noodles and steamed soy sauce fish. Good place to accommodate big parties.

At first I was a bit annoyed as I wanted to order more as he eats quite a fair bit and I had no intention on sharing. ( a combination of things cold + hangry) We settled on the fried rice and spring rolls. The portions were good in relation to price, we could not even finish the rice. The price in relation to the quality of the food? Boy oh boy was I surprised. It was worth every penny. Chinese take-out often leaves you bloated but empty and full of instant regret once you have taken the last bite but not this place. The friend rice was full of egg and chicken the rice nice and fluffy. The spring rolls were large and crispy! ( I saved one from a second visit and placed it in the fridge and it was still crispy) It comes with a delicious sweet and sour dipping sauce. Needless to say this is now our local ( it gets busy around 4pm -6pm) Service was great and the food did not take too long to prepare. We went back for the Prawn fried rice and yes that extra egg. We dropped in on a holiday Monday evening (around 7:30pm). This place is a hole in the wall. The ladies working here only speak Mandarin (very minimal English) which just makes it that much more authentic. The menu is split into Chinese burgers, noodle soup, dry noodle, Sinkiang style stretch noodle, salad (more like appetizer/cold meats), dumplings/wontons and other. The lady even brought us their iPad that had photos of all their food items. I wanted their cold noodles (#10) but it was all sold out. - Cumin lamb burger (#8) ($5.00 NZD) - probably one of the best Chinese burgers I've had. Fresh, hot, crispy and the lamb was perfectly seasoned. - Hand-pulled noodles with Xi'an style braised pork (#38) ($12.50 NZD large) - this is one of their most popular dishes. The noodles were fantastically toothsome. So addictively good. Braised pork was tender but a bit salty at the end/bottom of the bowl. It also came with some cabbage and cilantro. - Hand-pulled noodles with pickled tuber mustard and pork (#30) ($11.50 NZD large) - this came in a soup format. The pickled mustard was a nice contrast to the other dishes. Broth was healthy and tasted clean if that makes sense. - Pork and chive dumpling in sour soup (#103) ($11.50 NZD for 20 pieces) - the dumplings were delicious. Generous filling. This time we came for dinner along with several dozen of my wife's work colleagues for a early celebration of the Chinese New Year, hosted by her boss. We had a small selection of wines for each table , of which I chose to have some of the Villa Maria Viognier. Nothing special , but it went down well with me. As for the eating or maybe as is common with a lot of Chinese dinners it should be loosely called " feast " there was food aplenty....coming out so quickly that as I have found when eating such in other restaurants it becomes difficult to squeeze all the dishes onto the table. But we managed. As for each separate dish I could not name them all, though I can say there was lobster , pork, pigs ear , duck and more. I have to admit it was the first duck I have tasted for a long time...and can honestly say it tasted pretty good, almost on a par with the duck we tried in one of the more famous duck restaurants in Beijing. Just lacking in the chef coming and slicing it in front of you as is done in Beijing plus a few other traditional methods they have there. The trolleys came round quite regular and we ended up taking some sesame balls, spring rolls, pork buns , tofu skin with mushroom and pork filling and blue egg porridge, ( one of my favourite ) and a few other delights. No complaints on the tasting side, nor on the service as the girls were quick in keeping the trolleys come round as well as being pleasant and the bill wasn't too bad either.
