sliced beef and ox tripe, hand pulled noodles with cumin lamb, cumin lamb burger
    Andrew P.

Tried this place while visiting Auckland & it is delicious & authentic. The noodles are chewy and bouncy with a flavorful sauce, although could do with more meat. Same goes with the slice beef and tripe, very flavorful chili oil but small serving of meat. It isn't the fanciest of places, with minimal decor. You order at the counter or using QR code & then the staff will bring out your food.

That's the kitchen, all of it.

Solid noodle shop. The noodles themselves are random, hand made but far from uniform. The braised meats are nice and the spicing makes the dishes absolutely delicious. There is tremendous value here and in a cold day, this is the ticket! Seating quite limited, many carry out meals.

Omg the food here is so f***ing good I had to leave a review. The cucumber salad with the chilli oil is delicious and the broth of the soups and handmade noodles sooo tasty. Wow. Better than the fancy restaurant my friend and I went to last night. Feels a little like you're in their kitchen with a pretty basic table and chairs and grab your own chopsticks atmosphere nothing pretty inside but who cares food absolutely amazing prices great. I dig it. Service was great, quick too. :)

#52: Hand Pulled Noodles with Braised Beef

So freaking amazing I needed to post a review. I've been wanting to check out this spot after seeing the food on my TikTok recommended. And I was finally able to check it out on this rainy day. I decided to take out a bowl of their #52: Hand Pulled Noodle Soup with Braised Beef. Absolute definition of comfort food!!! The hand-pulled noodles are absolutely phenomenal. It was my first time trying authentic Chinese hand-pulled noodles, and I can certainly say they were the best noodles I've ever had. The braised beef was so fatty and tender, and the noodles just soaked up all that fat and flavor. I think the only thing that I didn't care for was how oily the soup was on top of all that fat from the beef. I think it would be a better dish if the broth was cleaner and lighter since the dish is already so hearty from those thick hand-pulled noodles. Plus, I tend to stay away from eating things that are too fatty since I have a weak stomach lining. However, even though I know my stomach will not be happy tomorrow morning, I can say, hands down, that was the best meal I've had in a while. Can we also talk about great value? I got the medium size, which was more than a generous serving, for only $13.50 (Large size- $15). That's crazy for a place in the CBD, especially for food of this quality. I also enjoyed the nice, cozy, mom-and-pop shop-style atmosphere: what it lacks in terms of interior decorating it makes up for in the food! Will be coming back to try out other dishes sometime soon!

Holy hand-pulled noodles Bruce Lee! Talk about a late night kick in the Hai-yah! I'll make this timeline review, short and sweet. Tuesday night @ 9:50pm: Thinking, crap they're gonna close at 10:30pm. Better run my way down there since it's close to the Pullman Hotel. 9:53pm: Ran down the park. Tried to cut through the indicated shortcut via google maps. Boo! Blocked, denied. Alternate route found, great! Hurry hurry, run run run! 9:55pm: Sweet, found a set of stair down to the main street. About fifty steps later, Xi'an Food Bar was in sight! 9:56pm: They're still open but cleaning, eek. Now, normally I wouldn't enter a restaurant when it's close to closing, but I was freakin' hungry. 9:57pm: Politely asked if they'll still take my order, and with a smile, they did. Assuming the woman there is the owner, possibly with her daughter. And after reading yelper reviews, and to make things easier, I pretty much knew what I wanted: Chinese Cumin Lamb Burger ($4.50): Basically toasted pita bread with chopped up lamb meat. Spicy, but really savory good! It actually went well with my papaya drink. I liked it, but will probably stick with the noodle dishes next time. #29 - Hand-pulled noodle soup with stir fried pork ($9): Um, YUM! The broth was mellow and mustard flavor. Not spicy nor oily at all. Could've used a bit more pork, but it was still a delicious bowl. It was soup that just hit the spot, and the noodles held up quite well in the broth. #37 - Hand-pulled noodles with Xi'an Style Braised Pork ($9.50): I mixed up the chili flakes and cilantro, and BAM! Instant gratification! The noodles were thick, stretchy, chewy, firm, and just down right exquisite. The meat was kinda scarce as well, but all mixed up made for another delightful bowl. I endorse this bowl if you can't decide what to get. 10:15pm: Got back to the hotel and just grubbed it all down! Okay, well not all of it. I shared. A little about the place. Well, it's small, typical in dining with about six tables. Nothing romantic, but I can see it being a popular lunchtime joint. Pretty cheap in price especially for what you get. Pay these folks a visit if you've never been here. The owners were even kind enough to let me yelp some photos before they bagged it all up for take-away. No dirty looks, just happy smiles. I'll be back!

In amongst that series of Asian restaurants on the corner of Anzac Ave and Customs St, you will find this no frills food bar. It is one of those blink and you'll miss it jobbies but come lunchtime it is always packed out with hordes of people chowing down on huge bowls of hand pulled noodles (the biangbiang noodles are ridicky good). Although the noodles are pretty darn good, I have a total soft spot for their rather greasy but epically delicious, Chinese burgers. They're not complicated - plain old pita pockets stuffed with sticky, melt-in-your-mouth braised pork - but they are packed full of flavour and at only $4.50 a pop, are an absolute steal. If they weren't so devoid of nutritional value...I would be here at least once a week for sure!

    Pork with hand shaven noodles

Maybe I am bias but I think the Northcote pork hand shaven noodles are better tasting! The extra here is that they top the pork with sesame seeds. The meat here was a tad dry for me. But flavors were similar! Service was fast though! If you're in the CBD and need Xi'an's food then this is a good place to go, but make sure to try Northcote as well and compare the differences!

Great food , no frills and cheap. Just what I like!!! The chinese burgers ( 肉夹馍 ) , either lamb ,pork or beef are for me the best I have tasted in the city. One little thing to mention is if you need the toilet you have to get a key from the staff and it is in the apartment building next door.

    Wonton
    Ran H.

Went here with my friends, so that I can try different types of food. My friends had the Chinese burger, noodles as well. So I tried Wonton, which was like the Shanghai's food and I think it's not bad.

As a Chinese, my hometown is Xi'an. I have to say the foods in this restaurant is very authentic. I just moved around it so i can eat the classic gourmet of my hometown everyday!

Really spicy stuff! Great for those who love spice but probably not for those who can't handle it. Slightly loud but nice atmosphere.

Most of the food stands didn't open up for another 20mins, so we wandered around reading all of the menus and deciding what we wanted. The last stand we came across was Burg'z. Whom I believe was the owner said "we are cooking up a beef and a chicken burger for a photo shoot. Would you like them after, since we're just going to toss them?". I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!

You can build up hype about a eatery quite easily these days through social media and such. But to…read morebuild a reputation of quality requires much more. And when you only sell one item, you better make it the best thing ever to stay around. I have heard about Better burgers through friends, colleagues and everyone was going on about how good the burgers were or how busy it is that they make you wait ages. With much expectation I came over for lunch today. I read all the reviews on yelp about it, some good some really bad. So I wanted to make up my own mind, since they only have essentially one burger on the menu. I chose to order the standard hamburger and a double cheese burger. Forgive me if I have discounted the veggie burger as an option. To me, a good burger has to have a number of qualities. 1. The buns should be toasted slightly, and not soggy. 2. The meat pattie has to be juicy and not dry. 3. Everything should be seasoned properly. And 4. The burger has to have the correct meat to bread ratio. To my surprise. Better burger failed to impress today. I have taken photos for this review. As you can see, the double cheese has the perfect meat to bread ratio while the hamburger with the lonely pattie does not. That's not really a biggie to some. Because they might not be able to finish a double. I do sense that's a marketing play though, since the difference between the two burgers is quite minimal. But what's unforgivable is that my buns were stone cold, and soggy from the tomato and wet lettuce. Don't get me wrong, the patties were hot. It's just the buns were cold, it's such a big contrast in temperature. It made the eating experience unpleasant. And flavour wise, the burger was poorly seasoned, bordering bland. It screamed for more sauce. The Chips were over seasoned. Now, last thing I have to be fair about is that the prices are very reasonable for a burger. $6.50 is not expensive by any means. And I do like the soft buns, they would be much better if they were warm though. Overall, I think I would revisit them in a while to review my review. As for now, you can have better burgers at any place else but here.

A "healthier", fresher, hyped, well marketed and more thought through version of a normal McDeeeeees burger. I've also read a few of the yelp reviews of this place and it's true, the more simple the dish the harder it is to execute. If you only have 4 or 5 ingredients in there... You better be careful how you prepare each and every one of them (MKR has taught me a lot hahahahaha) However, the buns are delightfully crispy on the outside and super soft and fluffy on the inside. The patty was seasoned, juicy and oily. Tomato and lettuce were fresh. Pickles were pickled. Fries were a tad too salty but nice and crispy with the skin on (plus the machine they make it with is mesmerizing haha I want one!) but that vanilla milkshake, bro.... So thick it felt like my brain was gna explode from the pressure to suck the milkshake out of the straw. I think the milkshake was the most filling part of the meal. So much so that I felt bloated after haha. Is it sad that I find the fries and shake better than the better burger? Hahaha okok I'll stop. Would I come here again? only if I'm drunk and hungry in town... That would really hit the spot.. (And then run across the road for some gooey mozzarella sticks...)

The White Lady is a food truck serving a variety of burgers and sandwiches, as well as chips. There is no seating, so they offer take away only. I was a little uncomfortable, as there was a group of homeless people sitting and laying down right next to the food truck. Because of this, I just wanted to grab my food and go. The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.
