Been looking for a good gyro since the Greek restaurant next to Costco in Brick closed. Most spots we have visited recently no long have the spit and are giving you a version of a souvlaki sandwich and calling it a gyro. The Greek Spot with 3 locations at the shore has the meet on the spit, makes your gyro to order and allows you to choose your veggies and sauce. Though not as convenient for me in Brick, it was worth the trip to Ocean. read more

Great place for Greek food! Very little seating inside so don't be surprised if you don't get to eat in. They sell a good amount of Greek sundries and other stuff for you to do your own cooking so you know what they are using in the kitchen is authentic. I had the Spanakopitaka - triangle filled pastry pies. Stuffed with spinach, and feta - and they were waesome. The Greek Fries -- Fresh cut fries with oregano salt, were amazing as well. I took home a Greek Salad -- Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, feta cheese and olives, and loved that too. We've been coming here after a day at the shore for dinner, and until today, the food has always been awesome. Unfortunately, what I witnessed today was extremely concerning. Because the kitchen is open to the dining area, I watched the cook handling raw chicken with a gloved hand while putting the chicken kabobs on the grill. He then continued using that same glove to assemble orders, touching pita and putting his hand into the lettuce. At no point did I see him change his glove. I continued watching because I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then I watched him put a raw piece of salmon on the grill and continue handling cooked food with the same glove. At that point, I went to the register and explained what I had witnessed. The cashier's response was, "Of course!" and she immediately yelled to the cook to change his glove. I calmly explained that the lettuce had potentially been contaminated through the repeated handling of raw chicken and salmon and should not continue to be served. We ended up throwing approximately half of our dinner away because we were no longer comfortable eating it. I was not looking to make a scene, and I wasn't even planning to write a review. But I feel obligated to share this because the cashier's reaction made me concerned that this may not have been an isolated or unexpected issue. I sincerely hope management addresses this with the kitchen staff and reviews proper food-handling procedures. Unfortunately, after today's experience, we will not be returning. read more

Good portion on everything but pita. Felt like I needed more pita if I want to finish my feta dip. Even for the beef lamb platter, I wish they give at least two pita. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the portion they gave. It's a budget friendly meal to get. It's a very causal and mainly take out. The workers were super friendly. This comes with pita, lettuce tomato, onion, tzatziki and a choice of one side. We thought that this was a big platter. It's meant to feed for one but it fed 3 with extra to spare. We couldn't finish it and brought it home. This was a great value and it was delicious. Daughter loved the beef and lamb combined. We got lemon potatoes as our choice of potatoes. They were great, as were the salad and pita. Melitzanosalata- came with a side of pita. Hubs loved this eggplant dip and thought it was delicious. Avgolemono bowl, which is an egg lemon chicken soup. This was nice and light and lemony. This place has always been our favorite. Service was ok, it's fast casual. You order and pay with the cashier and wait for your food. One of my go to spots when visiting the area. I love being served in to-go tins. Just makes it easier. They give you enough food for 2 meals. My gyro is on point and the house salad is so good. My wife's Pastichio was very good. Her choice of side was the lemon soup. Tasted just like my mom's. Finally the dessert Galaktobureko is made fresh everyday. Met a friend for lunch. 3 pleasant ladies were at the counter taking orders. I wasn't sure what I wanted as it smelled so good in there. I finally decided on the chicken souvlaki platter. It was too much food and can certainly do two meals for me anyway. Maybe three! Chicken was juicy and fries were cooked well. Took it home for a snack later. We came in for dinner over the weekend; we were surprised that the dishes were served in tin containers and on plastic trays. We have been to the location in Red Bank, which is more of a restaurant, but this is more of a * takeout * stop with picnic tables outside; grab a seat inside/ outside and self-serve everything in between. We didn't realize these two locations were night and day for a weekend date night. When you arrive, you order from the cashier and pick up your food at the other end of the counter when they call your name. It was our first time at this location & we were looking around for utensils. ( plastic available) There weren't any plates, and we ate from our trays and tins. In addition, unlike the restaurant, they do not serve fried zucchini. This is hands down our favorite spot to eat. I would gladly drive an hour for the Loukaniko alone. Prices are reasonable and the food never takes too long to come out. My go to order is the Loukaniko pita with spicy feta and Taziki. The Greek fries are definitely something to write home about as well. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

Food galore! I ordered the Lamb Souvlaki Platter and Falafel side. First, the portions, man so much food and a great price! The food was done seemingly immediately and tasted fresh after my drive back. The Lamb Souvlaki was tender and well seasoned. The pita had a nice olive oil spread with salt and pepper. Was a little bit thin for my liking, but still tasted great. Fries we're fantastic, and nice that it included a nice fresh salad to balance out the strong tastes. There are some prepared foods behind the counter and there are grocery items around the store. There is a menu board behind the counter with items that you can order fresh. My husband ordered the chicken kabob platter and I ordered a Greek salad (with lettuce and chicken). They also make a traditional Greek salad with tomatoes and cucumbers. Both of our meals were tremendous and easily shareable. We both ended up taking half our meal home. The chicken was seasoned well, tender and delicious. Since the food is prepared fresh expect a little wait for it. If you're in a rush call ahead. There are tables inside and a picnic table outside if you're looking to eat in. They have fresh pita with spices sprinkled on top, and it's always warm and soft. They have home-made hot sauce which you can try when you eat in and if you like it you can buy some at the register! Came here for dinner before a concert at Count Basie theatre. We didn't allow ourselves enough travel time from Philly and were in a bit of a rush. Informed waitress that we only had about 50 minutes and she was very accommodating and asked the chef to prioritize our order. The manager came by a few times to check on us and brought an extra bowl of olives when we remarked how good they were. Portions were HUGE and attractively plated. For appetizers we enjoyed hummus and an eggplant dip and pitas. Our mains were lamb shank, rotisserie lamb, lamb kabobs, and moussaka. A side of lemony potatoes and stewed green beans were great compliments to the mains. Each plate came with a small bowl of tzatziki. Excellent friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. I've been here many times before. It used to be good. And I don't believe I can chalk it up to being an off night. They were pretty slow for a Monday night (no take out bags, no one sit down dining). So why the disappointment? Personnel have changed. Perhaps, ownership may have which is why the meals sucked so badly. That resulted in such a sub par gyro (beef/lamb) that was dry as a 50 yo whore, severely skimping on the tsazkiki sauce and nearly devoid of any lettuce/tomato/red onion. The person doing the meal prep obviously doesn't know how to make a gyro. I'm local and you're permanently off the boards with that big fail last night to what is a basic Greek order. I'll now veer towards the Greek Guys for my Greek which is much closer, but I've always gone to the Greek Spot. . God, what a disappointment. I have since also ordered take out after work with variations of sides, rice, veg, fries etc, I get there usually 30 minutes before closing and its always packed- but the sweet young lady that take the orders & works the register is always smiling and happy. The chefs are always smiling and saying hello to customers, it seems that everyone knows everyone!! I have ordered the feta cheese in a block to take home for salads (MR loves feta cheese) and it's amazing that they offer a few different options of cheese. I always buy a larger container of the Tzatziki sauce, because it's total deliciousness duhhh and I happily use it as a replacement dressing instead of Cesar or ranch or just as a dip for my wheat triscuits.
