We couldn't finish it and brought it home. This was a great value and it was delicious. Daughter loved the beef and lamb combined. We got lemon potatoes as our choice of potatoes. They were great, as were the salad and pita. Melitzanosalata- came with a side of pita. Hubs loved this eggplant dip and thought it was delicious. Avgolemono bowl, which is an egg lemon chicken soup. Met a friend for lunch. 3 pleasant ladies were at the counter taking orders. I wasn't sure what I wanted as it smelled so good in there. I finally decided on the chicken souvlaki platter. We came in for dinner over the weekend; we were surprised that the dishes were served in tin containers and on plastic trays. We have been to the location in Red Bank, which is more of a restaurant, but this is more of a * takeout * stop with picnic tables outside; grab a seat inside/ outside and self-serve everything in between. When you arrive, you order from the cashier and pick up your food at the other end of the counter when they call your name. This is hands down our favorite spot to eat. I would gladly drive an hour for the Loukaniko alone. Prices are reasonable and the food never takes too long to come out. I've been here many times before. It used to be good. And I don't believe I can chalk it up to being an off night. They were pretty slow for a Monday night (no take out bags, no one sit down dining). So why the disappointment? Personnel have changed. Perhaps, ownership may have which is why the meals sucked so badly. That resulted in such a sub par gyro (beef/lamb) that was dry as a 50 yo whore, severely skimping on the tsazkiki sauce and nearly devoid of any lettuce/tomato/red onion. The person doing the meal prep obviously doesn't know how to make a gyro. I'm local and you're permanently off the boards with that big fail last night to what is a basic Greek order. Came here for dinner before a concert at Count Basie theatre. We didn't allow ourselves enough travel time from Philly and were in a bit of a rush. Informed waitress that we only had about 50 minutes and she was very accommodating and asked the chef to prioritize our order. The manager came by a few times to check on us and brought an extra bowl of olives when we remarked how good they were. Portions were HUGE and attractively plated. For appetizers we enjoyed hummus and an eggplant dip and pitas. Our mains were lamb shank, rotisserie lamb, lamb kabobs, and moussaka. A side of lemony potatoes and stewed green beans were great compliments to the mains. Each plate came with a small bowl of tzatziki. Excellent friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. I have ordered the feta cheese in a block to take home for salads (MR loves feta cheese) and it's amazing that they offer a few different options of cheese. We have eaten at the Greek spot several times in the past. Although those times the food was impeccable and the service was spot on, this occasion we felt a little less than impressed. We felt that maybe the restaurant has "jumped the shark" as they say. Service was poor and the server on this particular night although usually friendly seemed hurried and quite gruff. The owner who usually walks around and greets patrons seemed a little less than attentive. We felt hurried and not as well taken care of asking several times to fill our glasses. It seemed that they needed more help than they had that night. The usual waitress was nowhere in sight. She is a sweet woman who spends time with you and offers suggestions on the menu. The food also didn't quite taste as flavorful and portions seemed somewhat smaller than usual. I guess the economy has affected the restaurant industry as well. Hopefully they will come back to their original splendor but for now I think we will hold off on future visits and hopefully we will return when the time is right. read more
