I've been wanting to write a review about this place for a few years now, and have been unsure to do so since my last reading with one of the readers named Tommy left me traumatized. It's taken me 3 years to speak up about it. I was referred to Tommy through my friend / roommate at the time during the pandemic. On our initial call, Tommy seemed like a nice person very engaged and ready to dive in to our reading. Since his energy seemed good, I continued to do a readings with him every three to four weeks for about 7 months. I engaged in readings with Tommy around my living situation, family, and career. Towards the tail end of our reader/client relationship was when things really took a turn. I had been working for months on a project that was a few weeks away from launching and he had suggested that I purchase a "solar blast candle" for the success of this project. He then referred me to Monica from The Green Man Store who specializes in making these candles. And since I did not live in LA, I had my friend who was going home for the weekend pick it up for me. A few days later, the candle was in my possession and ready for me to light up. Upon pulling the glass jar container out from the paper bag, I see a yellow candle inside the jar with an interesting half rainbow made of glitter slapped across one side of the candle and herb like seeds coated the bottom of the jar with a very strong alluring smell made of essential oils and fennel seeds. I was now ready to light the candle but something in my gut did not feel right so I took a second to think about it. I picked up the candle to took a closer look and what I notice was shocking to me. The glitter half rainbow appeared to be covering the actual picture of a phallus (penis) etched into the candle hidden behind the rainbow facade and was pointed downwards with little lines coming out of the tip of the phallus shooting towards the seeds. By now, my gut and senses were definitely unsure about the intention of this candle, which brought me to my next step was to ask Tommy what this candle is about and why there was a hidden phallus and lines (representing sperm) behind the rainbow. I texted him the next day and he responded with a audio message back. His response seemed to be a little distant and tone of voice was not like how he usually sounded on our readings. So I took it a step further to get clarity and booked what turned out to be my last reading with him. On the call I asked him what the candle is meant for and in his words he said, "it's like 'borrowing energy' from the planets Venus, Jupiter, & Mars.. making you look more attractive like there's this sparkling energy about you where people will gravitate towards you...and that's in support of you having a successful project release." The word that popped out at me was "borrowing energy". So I kindly said back to him that, "I don't believe in manipulating other people into liking me or this project. People have free, if they don't like it, they don't have to pretend to." He did not really like what I had to say so he gaslighted me. He said things like, "you're on the edge of going berserk," rudely made a spat noise and directed it on my lineage, and even invoke some latin sounding incantations or spell on me. I was totally not expecting this kind of behavior especially after months of reading with him and having shared so much in our readings about myself, my family, and things I'm dealing with. Of course what I shared was in the form of questions and his answers were in the form of rune readings. And from time to time, he suggested questions for me to ask. After that reading, I felt my world went gloomy instantly and it impacted me for over three years. I still have moments when it comes back to ping at me, hence why I'm writing this review to share this negative experience. No paying customer, or person deserves to be treated this way - PERIOD! Be aware folks you won't know if a spell is being casted on you to like their services or readers. Another thing to note, my friend/roommate who referred me was also doing readings with Tommy before I did. She was dealing with a past ex-breakup that took five years to get over. Tommy in one of their readings suggested that she purchase a cord-cutting candle or make one since she wasn't living in LA. After his recommendation, she was somewhat frantic and in a hurry to get her hands on this candle and I remember her feeling also iffy about it but she was under some spell. Next thing you know, she lights the candle for 24 hours and a few days later the energy of the house hold begins to feel heavy and the arguments between her and I ensue. Tommy suggested that we don't burn sage due to it leaving holes in the "energetic fabric" so we didn't - complete B.S. She ended moving out 2 months later following the lighting of the candle and we are no longer friends. Her and another friend who Tommy suggested the candle to father's both passed around the same time. read more

Editing my review slightly, as I ended up having some follow up questions about the stones I bought and received outstanding customer service, with the speed and specificity of the email responses I received from Jill. My experience in the store here was pretty limited. It was a fine experience, but nothing special. I walked in with no real intentions, as far as what to purchase; I just really wanted to go to the store. I was hoping, in fact, that someone asked me what I needed, hoping that I would get directed towards something specific. I realize that I was not being ignored, but allowed to peruse at my leisure. I observed a couple people ask the apothecary to create both a spell bag and spell candle. They both seemed like regulars and, ultimately, it seems like this store is kind of made for people who are here all the time. Nothing wrong with that, certainly. The community needs a space to acquire necessary items. I wish all items had signs or tags indicating the prices. I didn't want to ask the price of everything, though I am sure it would have been fine if I did. Ultimately, I found a couple stones that spoke to me, so I brought those home with me. Perhaps in the future I will have a specific need and will return. Otherwise, it might just feel like an awkward browsing. read more

Ok, I came here in August and was pleasantly happy. I purchased what I needed and went home a happy camper- I went in today and unless I am in pinch it will be my last visit. Which is a shame because they have all the herbs I need (and generally always in stock and I like to support local businesses as much as I can). There is a gentleman who works in the store who helped me last time and I stated he wasn't going to be my best friend but last time he was patient enough but not super nice in any way shape or form- This time he was just kind of rude. Short and curt answers (I think his name is Hovik) he has long dark hair a thicker build and he always is by the herbs...he is just unkind horrible energy all the way around...and I hate to say but kind of mean. However, the 2 other individuals that were working there were awesome- a young lady with red hair, pretty eyes and a cheery disposition and a young man with glasses and dark hair...he was taking care of all the crystals and asking people if they needed a basket or needed any help...just super friendly he seems to do a lot of inventory things. When you feel you don't want to come in to avoid a certain person is sad...maybe it is time to get rid of this one individual to uplift the otherwise good energy at your store. He may know all about the herbs but when he seems to give poor service to a lot of people (I read some of the other reviews and they point him out frequently). If I could avoid the days this man was here I would be delighted to come in again... but it appears he is always there I came in on a weekday last time and a weekend this time. read more

Let me take you back in history to the time of witches, apothecaries, and accepted spirit guides. If that is a world that interests you, then allow me to introduce The Green Man Store. The Green Man Store is a very tiny store in terms of square footage but makes up for its size in experience. Catering to Wiccans, Reiki enthusiasts, occultists, and herbalists; the Green Man Store is a metaphysical stomping ground in North Hollywood. Again, the store is small but has great energy and a soothing vibe. Even though it is located in a busy area near the North Hollywood Metro station; the Green Man Store is definitely an escape. What can you find at The Green Man Store? Gem/stones, candles, pendulums, animal guide tokens, journals, jewelry, statues, skulls, books, incense, and small kick knacks. Granted, the selection in each category is VERY limited but the overall span of offerings is eclectic. However, again, if you are looking in-depth for wares, this isn't the right place. Think of The Green Man Store as more of an introduction. Despite a small selection of goods, the apothecary makes up for the slack. Offering various herbs, powders, tinctures, and oils; patrons can find just about anything they need for everyday or special use. Plus, it looks "cool" like a step out of medieval times or Harry Potter. The service was initially aloof as I felt like I had to push and pry to receive attention. Basically, the employees are obviously protective and want to 'feel out' the customers to make sure they are serious. Although I can understand this in this field, it is not good customer service or a way to encourage repeat business. However, once I proved myself with knowledge and interest in the herbs, service was considerably better. The prices are acceptable with herbs and powders being sold in $5 bags (about 3 oz) and can also be purchased at half sizes for $2.50. The Green Man Store also provides psychic readings, spiritual healing, and workshops/events such as speakers, book signings, and classes (for example: how to turn herbs into tinctures at home). They offer a calendar of events and also update their Facebook page with future events. The cashier was decent. Also a bit standoffish but not too bad. It should be noted that a minimum purchase of $10 is required for credit/debit. Also, make sure to grab one of the rad free bumper stickers! Parking is street parking with some posted signs so be careful. If taking the metro, The Green Man Store is literally a couple minute walk from the North Hollywood station. Overall, The Green Man Store is a bit small (some would argue claustrophobic), a bit elitist, and somewhat narrow in its offerings but yet has great energy and a satisfying apothecary. It's definitely worth a visit if you are into metaphysics/spirituality. See? There is more than just weed out there... read more

So, I actually scheduled my reading with Shana over the phone and was sort of expecting a bad experience because of the stuff I'd read of their less than stellar service, but the woman I spoke to (didn't catch her name) was actually very nice and accommodating so I'm glad on that end my experience was a positive one. My reading with Shana however was simply okay..nothing spectacular or truly moving more like a 'how to be optimistic and believe in your abilities' conversation...She was nice but didn't really feel I got anything insightful out of the reading other than how to stay positive even when you're not feeling it. read more

I paid 25 dollars to celebrate in someone's backyard and there were groups of friends who were dispersed throughout the backyard. Then I watched a 2 of strangers get married. My favorite store in LA for all things mystical. It's like walking thru the pages of a Harry Potter book. The staff is always nice and helpful. The only downside is that I always spend way too much money because I want everything. They prices are very fair though. They even have workshops and classes that seem very cool. I was so happy with my purchases and when I brought my stuff back home I felt so happy. I'm still a beginner and barely learning about witchcraft and healing gems and the ladies at the store helped me so much and gave me information and resources for beginners like me. The Green Man is a great place to shop for Metaphysical learning tools! Ive been a customer for years HOWEVER, last week the 13th I went to purchase some rose oil. A pink haired woman whom I have never seen asked me if I knew how expensive it is? Since I have dark skin, I felt like this was a weird question. Then she insisted that they did not carry rose otto, even though Ive been buying rose otto, probably for years. I STILL HAVE THE BOTTLES. Next, when I made a purchase, she asked for my identification. Perhaps this is store policy, but it felt embarrassing. Otherwise, I am very thankful for the store. read more

I love this store. The employees are very warm, welcoming, and extremely helpful. I came in looking for a macrame necklace to hold some of my healing crystals. I found exactly what I wanted, including a new healing crystal. The employee who helped me, was so kind to help me put my crystal into the macrame necklace. It took me this long to be able to review my pre-covid session. Still so upset and disappointed. Had read Russell Chan was a good reader. Was excited. We sit down, and he starts scribbling as I'm talking. I expected him to tell me something that was going on or would happen. Any sort of insight whatsoever. He stops me and on the paper are scribbles and the words "9 minutes" No information, nothing. I'm disabled and can't work, on a half pension and stuck in a physically, verbally, emotionally and mentally abusive relationship and threatened once a week to be on the street with my dog (I had spent a couple of months living in my car so it wasn't an empty threat). I wanted something, some information to give me hope. He tells me he's giving me tough love and I have a bad attitude. People whose lives are fantastic rarely visit psychics. People in desperate situations looking for some reassurance do. He said I complained for 9 minutes. Wow. No words. He then proceeds to spend the rest of the appointment telling me to get a better attitude. Nothing about what might be coming, no spirit relatives. Just one long bullying session. It went on and on. He's not a medium or a psychic reader. He told me some relative was at my shoulder but couldn't give me a single bit of information about this ghost. No information about my present or future. I feel totally ripped off. People go to psychics to get information. What a ripoff. Don't waste your time or money with this scammer. If you want a great reading go to the Psychic Eye in Sherman Oaks where they have real readers. Two words, Shana Leilani. I've been seeing her since 2014 and basically go wherever she is. She's been dead on through all of these years. I'm so heartbroken by having to post this review. I went here once a few months ago by myself and had a great reading and was told to come back with my BF in the future. So today wanted to get that reading with my bf so I called ahead and asked if they did couples readings to confirm space. The woman on the phone said "yes we can do that" so I said "great I'll come right over" and when I got there I was happy and in a great mood and said we are here for the couples reading. The same woman from my phone call immediately said "we don't do that" in a mean, very curt way. So I asked "didn't I just talk to you on the phone?" She said yes I thought you asked for "a couple of readings". Really? Are you serious? Who the hell asks for that in that way! I told her I'd pay double but she just refused to give us a reading. Loved the products they were so cute and well priced. However me and my brother were being followed by the white man they employ because they felt the need to check to see if we would steal anything. You read that right, in a 10'x10' room there was a grown man following our every move. I would not suggest any person of color come into this store because you will be profiled. I left feeling very uncomfortable after I got sage and realized i would never go back there because I don't want to go somewhere I am not welcomed to just exist as a person. The Green Man Store is a nice gem in the valley. I go there to buy my candles and herbs. They have anything you need as far as apothecary items, I do wish they sold more bottles and jars though. There is one girl who works the herb counter, and she knows what she's talking about. I asked another lady to help me out with some herb questions, and she didn't really have any answers for me. They have multiple classes and workshops and have a monthly calendar in their store, you can also find it online. They have a nice assortment of books on all subjects relating. I took a Zoom class with Melissa St Hilaire on conducting a seance. She was thorough, knowledgeable, and the class was jam-packed full of ideas for us to try. At the end, she asked an impromptu question of a friend of hers that had passed away. She said "Can you use anything here to make some noise to let us know you're here?" A white noise began. Clearly everyone heard it. She asked if her friend could beef it up. The static got so loud it was difficult to hear Melissa's voice. I broke in and asked her if she'd ask her friend to take it down a notch - the noise stopped instantly. You should have seen the faces in that Zoom room. Melissa really delivered on this one. I will be taking more classes with her, for certain. read more
