I probably went in thinking one thing based on the "non-judgmental" approach he reportedly has with kids care, but he didn't seem to really have an opinion. He seemed Ho-hum on whether you should give your kids va c or not. I don't need reinforcement in my beliefs, but I'd prefer a doctor that shares similar views. This doctor will be happy to collect fees as doesn't seem to care about the potential, either way you go, health impact to your child. read more

Excellent pediatrician! I like his non judgemental approach to our families decisions for care. Very open and informative on the subject that concern parents. I love how he suggested Caluenda for my sons baby acne, for moisture only. He was clear that it was natural adjustments for newborns. The docs st Northwestern wanted to prescribe a steroid cream For an infant! Anyway, the baby acne went away after the first two months. Cost are perfect ! The only catch, he doesn't take insurance, but I use my HSA and still claim the Amt towards my deductible. Lastly, I am impressed by how he charted my sons, growth and milestone progress! He pulls out the MacBook and show you what he's been tracking. One other thing, he was also a midwife, so he's delivered babies! He can handle adult care as well! I sent a friend his way recently. She's taking her daughter 1yrs old, due to her pediatrician kicking her out of the practice for wanting no vaccines ! read more

I know how important it is to find just the right doctor. "Dr. Paul" has been our family doc for the past year and a half, and he does a wonderful job at giving supportive, individualized care and taking his time to make sure all our questions are answered and needs are met more than any other MD I've seen in my life. He practices the philosophy of health wellness and maintenance through natural means as a way to ward off sickness, surgery and/or pharmaceutical therapies when possible (but knows it's not always possible or advised), which is something I value as well, and takes his lead from the patient as to what's the right mix of treatment options for them. Lastly, I can tell that he deeply cares about my health as an individual, not just a patient on his schedule. We have been taking my daughter here since she was 4 months old, after somewhat unpleasant experiences with our previous two pediatricians. Dr. Schattauer personally took the time to try to help us through our breastfeeding issues, and actually helped me feel good about myself! My daughter is now 10 months old and healthy as can be. Whenever she's due for a shot, Dr. Schattauer lets me hold her, to help comfort her during the process. Dr. Schattauer always takes the time to answer every question I have, and is very kind and considerate with his answers. He never judges, and is very respectful of our lifestyle. Extremely kind and great bedside manner. My kids adore him. He's very flexible in regards to treatment and preventive care strategies. I love that he encourages our family to have healthy lifestyles i.e. exercising, eating healthy, taking whole food vitamins, eating organic and locally grown when possible. Before rushing to prescribe a bunch of antibiotics or other pharmaceutical drugs and saying "good luck" like most doctors do these days - he'll suggest more natural, holistic remedies first, depending on the medical nature of the problem. He implements a logical sequence and balance of utilizing modern medicine, research and pharmaceuticals as well as natural remedies, as needed. Another thing that I found interesting is when asked at different hospitals (Rush, University of Chicago, and West Suburban Medical Center) who was my or my kids general practitioner , all the nurses and doctors said "you've got a great doctor" or "he's really good at what he does". That's totally reassuring when, if they wanted, could have instead advised me to utilize one of their staff doctors. Dr. Shauttauer came to the hospital after my second child was born and ensured she breastfed immediately to get the colostrum and that the baby nursed properly. And he was very concerned that I was doing well also. That experience was completely different from the hospital ended up at after delivering my first child (before I found Dr. Shauttauer) where the staff wanted to immediately take my son to see some random pediatrician and my husband had to debate with the staff to keep the child in the room with us or he was going where ever they were taking our child (and he did - they called him "the crazy man that won't leave his child") and they also gave our baby formula (which caused him to vomit multiple times) after we told them not to...sorry, had a short post traumatic stress moment there. Anyway, Dr. Shauttauer insured he was at the hospital on a Sunday to check on my newborn so the staff didn't have to whisk her away. Just be aware you have to pay out of pocket for office visits and hope to get reimbursed from insurance. I never remember to submit my claim to the insurance. So my visits were never counted towards my deductible. But, I'd rather pay out of pocket for good care for my children than let my insurance pay a crappy doctor. I can't say what the prices for everyone else will be, but I paid a ranged from like $50/visit to $150 for hospital visit. It may be different now because I had my daughter in 2015. Call first to check the prices before making a visit, to be sure. read more

What a wonderful experience. I recently switched doctors for my child. Short wait time, easy to make an appointment, and during our first visit the doctor and RN spent a significant amount of time with my child, over an hour. It was night and day from our previous experience. I am so grateful to the Green Medical Practice. They really look at the "whole" child and take the time to tailor their advice instead of giving you "one solution fits all" advice. We are so grateful that this practice exists. Dr Paul has been my doctor for over ten years. He has always been so kind and patient, and helps to get to the root of any medical problems you might have. I had joint pains and odd rashes. He was the only doctor to suggest a test for inflammation to get at the root of the problem. This helped me to change my diet in a way that cured all the issues I was having. Dr. Schattauer has been caring for people in my family for over 20 years. (He delivered my baby sister and my oldest son when he was still attending births.) We feel well-cared for and he has a fantastic bedside-manner with children. We have received prompt, attentive care. He is not hasty to prescribe antibiotics etc., but will do so when necessary, taking care to select a good option for your individual situation. Very please with his line of products. We are taking the Vitamin D3, digestive aids and Juice Plus the doctor recommended. I was a little skeptical at first about Juice Plus but I am sooooo happy we started them. We have both been feeling stronger and healthier just in the 2 months he has been treating us. Dr. Schattaeur is a great physician. This family practice is a breath of fresh air. My daughter is 5 and has been a patient for over 3 years. I recommend him to everyone I know. He is willing to listen and offer guidance in a very practical way. He is warm and caring and never makes you feel like a number. The location of the office is great too. This is my first baby, so I was interviewing doctors first. Not surprising, I hit A LOT of dead ends! Dr Paul was a PERFECT fit immediately. I knew the moment I spoke with him over the phone.
