As a lover of high tea, I've been excited to try this tea room out. So, I made a reservation as a belated, Mother's Day outing. Green Tree is an antique shop and tea room in a historic district of Lexington that offers a noon luncheon Wednesday through Saturday. On the day we visited, they were packed with parties of all sizes from duos to a group of 13. Everyone has the same menu which changes each month and is published on their website. The tables were covered in crisp linens and accented with fresh flowers and pretty flatware and dishes. For $19.95, you get a soup, a homemade scone, a specialty entree (petite portion), finger sandwiches, and sweets. And, there's a seasonal, hot tea. May's menu started with a delicious, cold strawberry soup. It was like strawberries and cream in a bowl. Next was a fresh from the oven, cream scone with lemon curd and Lafayette cream. I had high expectations for the asparagus crepe with moray sauce after thirst two dishes. Sadly, the crepe contained room temperature rice and veg. The moray was excellent but the entree would have been better warm. The finger sandwiches served in a buffet included shrimp toast, cucumber rounds, and egg salad sandwiches. All were delicious. My wife and I have been frequenting the Greentree Tea Room for years and truly love it! They have a rotating monthly menu which is served in courses except for the final course (sandwiches and dessert) which is served buffet style. Seeing that this is a formal tea your beverage is a hot tea served with sugar (or artificial sweetener) and cream or lemon, as well as ice water. One of my many favorites is the August menu which features a chilled cantaloupe soup as well as a baked pear with blue cheese entree salad. The cantaloupe soup might sound strange but it is absolutely one of my favorite dishes. Offered at the peak of cantaloupe season this chilled, cream-based delight is the "piece de resistance". Course number two is the oatmeal scone served with orange marmalade and Fayette cream. This British standard has great flavor and texture, with the marmalade and Fayette cream adding just the right amount of complexity. The tea sandwiches at the end are also a delight and you most certainly will not go home hungry! Service at this establishment is impeccable and they know us by name! read more

I absolutely adore this place. It's such a fun place to go with family and friends. It's turned into a tradition with my family when we are all in town. The food is so tasty, be sure to wear stretchy pants!! The service is great and Rob is wonderful!! The food is to die for. My favorite is the scones with the Fayette cream...so yummy. The tea is always hot and fabulous and each cup tastes the same. I love looking at the antiques that are for sale. Everything is so unique and beautiful. Having a party or bridal shower is also perfect, as my sister had her bridal shower here. It's about $20 per person and worth every dollar. Can't wait to go back!! read more

While I have not (yet) been to Greentree, they catered an event I recently attended. The menu was simple, but everything was perfectly prepared, with the table setting wonderfully appointed. The server was very pleasant and professional. Small tender and perfectly cooked slices of prime rib, a saffron rice with roasted vegetables and potatoes, and a refreshing tomato aspic with shrimp, very retro. The Kentucky cheese biscuits were delicious and spicy. Delicate lacy cookies for dessert. Can't wait to visit the Tearoom for lunch! read more

This is one of my favorites places in Lexington and one of the best tearoom in the world; however, you must be aware of a few key points before you make a reservation or before your Greentree Tea Room experience. 1. Reservations are required and the seatings start at noon. 2. They have a preset monthly menu. If you are a picky eater or following a particular eating plan, this tea room is not for you. The food is amazing and you will leave full! 3. There is one tea option and it changes monthly as well. You can have it iced or you can have coffee, water and possibly milk. If you are looking for a selection of teas to choose from, this is not a place for you. 4. If you are dining with kids, make sure to mention in your reservation. They make special plates for kids and they will love it! If you know these 4 things BEFORE your tearoom experience you will thoroughly enjoy. If you do not, you maybe surprised and or unhappy. Enjoy! Going to Greentree is a monthly event in our house. I will gladly skimp in other areas to make sure we have the funds to make our monthly visit for tea. The menu changes monthly, but it's always excellent, and the scones are hot and fresh made, along with the "crack-in-a-bowl" Fayette Cream that's served with them. It's a delicious whipped cream indulgence that will have you and your tablemates fighting for the last in the bowl. There are always an assortment of cakes, tea sandwiches and cookies on offer during the buffet course, which comes after the soup, scone and main course offerings. I defy you to leave hungry after a leisurely tea at Greentree! Service at Greentree is top-notch. The staff treats you like honored guests, whether you're a frequent visitor or a newbie. If you'd like to take a guest to a place where they will feel both comfortable and pampered, you can't go wrong with Greentree. Greentree requires reservations for their tea seatings and some months fill up well in advance, especially at Mother's Day and Christmas, so keep that in mind. Cute location, great concept, DREAMY blueberry scones. I came to the Green Tea Room for a birthday party, which was served the pre-set, 4-course tea/food menu. Note: the menu changes monthly, and can be viewed on the company website. Reservations are strongly recommended (but really, does anyone just impulsively decide to lunch at a tea room solo anyway?). The little restaurant and adjacent antique room were adorable, and the private parking, especially for downtown Lexington, was great (I will never get over the generosity that is free parking). Seating is limited and almost elbow-to-elbow, but that was fine. The food: we started with a soup course, a buttery, creamy Spring Vegetable Soup. It was delicious, but a little bit of a downer to recognize that the "spring vegetables" were frozen mixed veggies (I recognize them because I cheat when I make my own veggie soup and just dump in a bag of frozen veggies - those unmistakeable little weird green bean pieces). The 2nd course was the BEST, huge, flaky, buttery, gorgeous, piping hot blueberry scone, served with lemon curd and "Lafayette" cream. Honestly, the scone was sumptuous enough it didn't need anything extra. It was my favorite item on the menu. The 3rd course was a Ky Hot Brown on a split biscuit. It tasted pretty good but the biscuit wasn't the best bread option IMO, having just had a biscuity scone (and the softness that is a Ky Hot Brown's toppings/sauce begs for a chewier, sturdier yeast bread base). The last course was my least favorite and kind of a bummer. It was buffet-style, but it wasn't specified on the menu print-out, and after sitting around waiting and whispering to each other what we should do, a server finally explained to us that we were supposed to go into another room and get the finger sandwiches and desserts. The tea hours were almost over, so we entered an empty room with an almost bare setup with tiered platters with some picked-over mini lemon cupcakes, truffles, strawberry panna cotte and finger sandwiches. I liked the chicken salad and cucumber sandwiches very much, and pimiento cheese-stuffed celery (NO southern event is complete without pimiento cheese!). The truffles were bad: gritty, bland and unattractive (they looked like large rabbit droppings, sorry but they did). The service was friendly, if a bit scattered and unpolished. There were about 4 different servers coming around, and there was confusion with telling us about the last course (buffet-style, rather than served to is), spilled glass of water, some of us had our tea and water refilled nonstop while others ran out. The biggest downfall for this tea, however, was the tea! We were only served one tea, a hot herbal tea, very unimaginative and boring. I love hot tea, so I would have loved to have had several flavor options, or a different tea served per course to complement whatever we were eating. A fruit tea, spice tea, etc. I didn't pay anything since it was a party, but I think it was about $20 a person, definitely reasonable for the amount of food we were served. read more

I recently visited the tea room with some coworkers and it was a unique and lovely experience - I've never been to a place quite like it. The food was light but filling, the servers were attentive and professional, and the environment was very traditional and classy. The tea itself was just right, and the pewter (I assume it was pewter) pitchers the servers used were just beautiful. All of the decorations were beautiful, actually - a whimsical assortment of timeless trinkets. If you want to grab lunch someplace that sets itself apart from the generic roadhouses and pizza/burger joints, the tea room is for you. Check it out; I know I'll be going back. read more

The December menu included tomato bisque soup, chicken cordon bleu and amazing white chocolate and cranberry scones. They were very accommodating to our group that had to adjust our downsizing number a few times. Everything was very tasty with exception of peas and carrots which accompanied the chicken. Sorry, but they tasted like they came from a can. That is the only reason I didn't rate them five stars. Very special place to go for extraordinary lunch! read more

What a wonderful place to have an afternoon tea and lunch with friends! First, it is in a beautiful old house on Short Street in downtown Lexington. This was my first time here and I almost missed it walking down the street. They share a parking lot with LV Harkness, so it is a little hard to find unless you go into the parking lot. I do advise making reservations well in advance though because they told us today that December was almost entirely booked! They offer a different menu each month and it is a four course meal. I was not able to eat the menu that they provided because I do not eat meat or dairy, so I called ahead and they arranged to have a vegan meal prepared for me. So if you do have any special needs, be sure to call and let them know because they are very accommodating. Be sure to plan a leisurely lunch & enjoy tea time, good food and friends. Everything was delicious, the service was great, the company was excellent and the house was beautiful. I certainly recommend this place! read more

I was so looking forward to trying this tearoom for a friends birthday. She had been raving about it for months. Unfortunately, 2 members of our party were not able to make it. The tearoom was notified for one these cancellations yet we were still charged for her meal. Our waiters customer service was lacking, to say the least. Upon hearing that we were missing 2 guests, he informed us they had already packed a box for them and asked how we would be paying for their meals. This policy was NOT listed on the website, and his delivery was completely unprofessional. Half of the meal was buffet style so I find it hard to believe that they had made just enough for our 2 missing friends. Shame on you! read more

The whole experience was terrible. My party was seated right at the back door entrance and people came in and out the entire time. Needless to say, it was pretty chilly in December! When I asked for drink refills, the server said "You're going for ultimate hydration today!" Then after we finished eating and were visiting a gentleman came by and said "You have 10 minutes". I was a first time visitor to the Greentree Tearoom this past Saturday. The food was fantastic! However, the staff completely ruined it for me. I was there with a group of coworkers to celebrate a birthday. Originally we were supposed to have 9 people but it ended up only being 7. On the website it says all changes have to be made 24 hours in advance and we did call on Friday to advise it would be 8 instead of 9. Unfortunately the other person that couldn't make it did not know until the day of. So I went in with the expectation that the person who couldn't make it and didn't give advance notice may have been charged. What I DIDN'T expect however is that those of us that were there would have to pay for not only that person's plate but also the one that we cancelled over 24 hours prior. Not only that, but the delivery of the message that we would have to pay for an additional 2 plates was VERY unprofessional. I felt attacked and berated by the conversation. On top of all of this, they packed to go boxes for the 2 settings that did not attend. The contents of these were very meager. They did not include near what we had been served. The contents definitely did not justify the $27+ we were charged PER PERSON. Needles to say, I will not return. read more
