My soup & chicken strips are on par, so are hubby's onion rings. A bit too salty, but hit the spot for a light meal. You can reserve a room there for a group meeting/dinner, which is nice, i think. However, it's kind of odd that they now close at 8 p.m. considering it being on a golf course. Agree that service could get a bit confusing sometimes, but all's good in the end. Spinach Artichoke: Topped with a house-made spinach artichoke dip, sauteed mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, balsamic reduction, and fresh mozzarella on a ciabatta roll $15 What a unique burger! The artichokes were good sized chunks adding a nice texture. The mozzarella was thick and had a good pull. Wasn't aware that there were mushrooms or sun dried tomatoes on the burger. The burger itself had a good char and temperature. The ciabatta held up well through each bite. The service was a bit weird. Too many people doing the same job and yet not quite getting it done right. My friend ordered her cocktail from the hostess while I was still deciding. Water comes but no one takes my drink order. Our server came to take our order, my drink included, but it took about 10 minutes to get it-from a third person. And then more waters are delivered. The burgers arrive; we ask for ketchup. We were served raw warm gin as a martini, and a cosmo without liquor in it. Poor waitresses were taking grief from customers about the drink service, but the bartender simply wasn't trained for the job. We live local and have gone there frequently. The food is usually good, but it is spotty. They must have trouble keeping staff. You never know if you'll get good service or bad on any given night. If they don't have a bartender that can show up to work, they probably should just just close for the night. That'll probably be the last visit there from us. read more

We've been going to the grill regularly now for a couple years. Over time the menu hasn't changed much and it's starting to get a little boring. How long can you have the same two soups on a menu? The food is good and presentation is nice. The servers are generally very good. Wait times for food have increased significantly as it has gotten more popular. They need to do a few furniture updates. Some of the tables are getting beat up. The Grill has the potential of being one of the best places in town but it needs some attention. read more

Food was good, portions were large but service was not great. We were the only table and it seemed like there were at least 15 servers. You'd think that means service would be fantastic but unfortunately they forgot about us and we had to just sit there and watch them stand around. Don't bother. Waited an hour for our food. Waitress never came back. Found out our order was never put in. Waitress didn't even remember us. Manager needs to be fired. Tables were not cleared and we were seated at a dirty table and had to stand and wait for someone to clean it. Will never go back. Very poorly run. I had to give one star to get this to post. Overall: Among the options in Winona, The Grill consistently delivers. It's definitely a casual place that checks all the boxes for a pub/grill type restaurant - tasty burgers, decent drink selection, and very reasonable prices. Minus one star for changing the fried pickles - the "chip" style fried pickles were definitely superior to the new version w cream cheese. Food: As already mentioned, I don't like the pickle switch. That said, all their fried app options have a super light and crispy batter that many others in the area get wrong. If you want it battered and fried, better make it worth the heart attack, and this place does. The cheese curds are on point! While not fried, they don't mess around with that zucchini app either--zucchini meets crab artichoke dip--can you really go wrong? The have a buy one, get one burger offer on Weds that can't be beat. I like the variety of burgers offered here as well as their homemade chips and french fries. Again, they really know what they are doing when it comes to frying. I've also had their salmon sandwich and their flatbreads. While not super inventive to this San Franciscan, as a Winona native, I appreciate their efforts to push the boundaries with both as well as their successful execution. The Grill manages to add a little adventure to the menu without taking it to far. Drinks: Very reasonably priced and great selection. They rotate the taps regularly for seasonal and different local selections (local being Minnesota/Wisconsin craft brews). The Basil Gin Martini (aka basil gimlet) is a solid pour, only reco is to lighten up or lose the simple syrup. Service: Better than Minnesota-nice, I have always found the service to be friendly, polite and pretty good. When it's missed the mark, they have usually made up for it in a comp or the like. Ambiance: Super casual, pub-style. It is located at what used to be the private, snooty golf club, so it has a nice view of the course. Pro tip: in the winter, they have a really toasty fireplace to sit near! Price/Value: Good sized portions, consistent quality (something many restaurants in Winona struggle with), and easy on the pocket book. Additional info: They have a room for private parties. If you made a large party reservation rather than booking the room, you'd probably get the room anyway and avoid the minimum charge. read more

Very good food and drink at reasonable prices. Staff are well-mannered and knowledgeable. Service is sufficiently fast unless they are busy, and they also know when to leave you alone. For the above I give The Grill 3.5 stars. What sets them apart--and earns them 5 stars--is the live music on Fridays, plus the dance floor. To hear and watch a group of seasoned professionals play jazz, swing, and more, and to be able to dance to them or not, as you wish, is truly special. Even better: they play during dinner and early evening (6-9pm) and you won't leave with your ears ringing from excess volume. The live music at The Grill is part of what makes Winona a wonderful place to live. I appreciate it very much. read more

Poorly managed. Had one of the waiters his name was Micah try to start a fight with our table and he wasn't even waiting on us. The Owner will be notified. Stay away from this place. Awesome! First time here. Ordered their 19th Hole hamburger & an Italian beef on a bagette. Both were marvelous. Hamburger was especially delicious! Lots of kettle chips supplied. The side order of fries wasn't necessary and was more average in quality. But the sandwiches we're excellent. Rather expensive - two sandwiches & fries came to $35 (nothing else - no drinks or deserts). We had an excellent server. I'll be happy to return. read more

Not a great place for groups over 4, very small restaurant and underwhelming food. I do not recommend getting the pizza.

This review is for The Grill located at Signatures. Signatures is Winona's only fine dining restaurant, and The Grill, at the same location, provides a fantastic casual dining experience. The burgers, sandwiches & other comfort-food style entrees are all made from scratch. Their pork torta sandwich is delish! Don't go for the pizza. For apps, try their fried pickles and bruschetta; it's amazing! The ambiance has a warm, club house feel with fabulous views of the golf course and flower garden with Winona's gorgeous bluffs in the background. However, the reason why I give this great restaurant 4 and not 5 stars is because I feel the branding & style of the business is weak, as well as the service. The room has an awkward layout, and it needs to be updated. Dining outside looks ideal, but the flies are unbearable. It is the best casual/pub style dinner in Winona, so don't let the negatives turn you away. read more

Showed up before 6pm on a Saturday with a group of 6 for dinner. Was told that there wasn't room for us and made no effort to try and put a table together, even though there were several open tables that could have been put together. Seemed like they weren't willing to seat groups larger than four. They suggested we go to Signatures for a 25 minute wait. THIS IS A RACIST RESTAURANT. A few friends and I decided to have dinner at Signature tonight we did not have reservations. Upon arriving we were asked if we had reservation and of course we responded no we did not. I hostess told us she needed to check with the kitchen to see is we could be served. I don't know why the kitchen would make that decision. The lady mentioned that Tuesdays, had been busy because of the Beethoven Festival. Not being from this area ok, however the restaurant was pretty empty. Anyway, we were told it would be an hour wait and we decided to wait over in the grill We grab a table in a corner and wait for the waitress. She walks to one table and serves them and walks away. She serves another table and walks away. By now 10 minutes has passed she and another worker point back in our direction and we think they are coming to serve us. NO they are seating another table and immediately waited on them. When I spoke with an alleged manager I realized he was one of the people that looked at us and ignored us as well. When I called him one the racism he decided to get the real manager to the front. Again another person that saw us sitting there and when confronted he had no clue what I was talking about. I decided to look at the Beethoven Festival schedule only to find out that it ended Sunday and they lied about that.
