Depends if the owner is working. First visit, place was almost empty, ordered routine and wings with black and tan. Good portion good food. Went Friday, plenty of staff and place was almost full everyone had their food. Ordered gizzards and mozzarella sticks after drinks, explained we would be getting burgers later too. Gizzards came out a lil late and waitress explained the mozzarella sticks blew up and they were remaking them. Should have given the option to scratch them and make the burgers, ok no biggie. Sticks came out and she didnt take the order for burgers until all apps were gone. Finally burgers x3 came out, cold fries and one extra crispie/burnt burger, one really crispie burger, one regular. Double parties on all 3 burgers. No owner was working, one group came in after we received our burgers so kitchen staff shouldn't have been busy. They ran out of wine, they were out of honey mustard, and they cooked their chicken in the same oil they cook their fish. Fish was dry and fries tasted old. Website says closes at nine but at 8 o'clock they denied service to somebody stating that the kitchen was closed. We felt rushed to leave. Awful! Won't be back! read more

This past weekend, our family gathered here to celebrate after a family wedding and enjoy more time together since family had traveled from across the country. The restaurant agreed to host our group and closed to host us as a private party. This was the nicest offer from them. We loved being able to move around in small groups and visit and catch up with each other. We were able to order drinks and food as we wanted. The staff was so sweet and wonderful. They accommodated everything - even making sure there was chocolate milk and apple juice handy for parents to grab for young kids. We ordered the chicken sliders and the shepherd's pie. The sliders had such great flavor. The shepherd's pie was filling and a fun pub dish. The homemade chips were the best we've had - not greasy, perfectly cooked. We stopped here on our way to the Warren Co fair, I chose this place based on prior reviews on Yelp. There was a car show on at the time, so the menu was limited.. But the service was friendly. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries and was thrilled.. the burger was tender, juicy, and delicious, and my fries were cooked perfectly. My husband had the fish and chips and enjoyed it as well. Haven't even had the food yet. Just ordered. Our first time here and we liked tithe menu we saw online so we decided to come. Turns out, the pricing online vs in restaurant are quite different. Fish and chips online price $13.99, in restaurant price $18.99. I understand prices can change due to inflation, etc. But it is business 101 not to advertise one price but then charge another. Maybe it 2as an oversight and needed pointed out, so we did. At this point, it is also business 101 to honor the lowest advertised price, but we were told the in restaurant prices were the correct ones. This was good. The scotch egg was better than the British restaurant in Des Moines. I had the salad with chicken and it was very sweet. Fries were served warm. The fish tasted like fried fish and not overly greasy. I technically think this is just food, nothing amazing but cooked well. I'm still amazed and disappointed with my experience. My husband and I arrived at the restaurant around 4:50PM on a Friday night. We are trying places in Indianola that we haven't dined at yet. We walked in and there were no other customers which was fine as it was a bit early. We had good service initially with a great explanation of the craft beers on tap. I was given a few samples to try and we ordered our meal and an appetizer. My husband and I chit chatted while waiting. I noticed what appeared to be another staff member appear. Our waitress greeted her loudly saying something to her about her appearance.. Our waitress stood at the bar talking loudly to her coworkers about other coworkers, I believe. She mentioned a "Teagan" name frequently. A lady came in stood at the bar kept her coat on and chatted with everyone there. At this point we have gotten no food. I heard an "order up" called out from the back. I'm thinking our mushrooms are up. Nope. It was apparently the lady in the coat's to go order. Then I noticed the worker who walked in when we first placed our order, sit down at the bar and eat a burger. Still no food. Finally after 45 minutes we got our appetizer. It looked like the waitress hadn't placed the order in the POS system as I watched her do this about 10 minutes before our appetizer appeared. Btw we are still the only customers as the lady with the jacket left. Our waitress continued to sit at the bar talking loudly about being dead customer wise and leaving early. I then noticed she was now eating some food. Then another couple came in and sat down. The waitress that came in just after we arrived had finished her burger and is apparently now on the clock. She waited on the couple that had just arrived. On her second trip by our booth she asked if we were done with the appetizer basket which has long since been empty. I say to her. When our food is ready can we get it to go? At this point it's been an hour. She turns to our waitress who is still sitting at the bar and says to her, " they are asking about their food". Our waitress gets up walking toward our booth saying, "you only ordered mushrooms". My husband and I just stare at her, thinking, "What!" He said to her, " you asked me how I wanted my steak cooked"! Then she said, "Oh, yeah! I forgot to put the order in. I was so distracted because our cook walked out and we had to call in another one". Never once did she tell us this and food was prepared for another customer, staff, as well as herself. We were the only ones there for nearly all that time and in her line of sight! She comped the meal but we paid for the pop and the craft beer we had. Our food was then ready in 15 minutes and to go! I'm not sure if it was truly good or not as it was cooled off by the time we got home. Needless to say I will never go back! And I know the owners were not around. Our waitress who I learned from the ticket is Hannah, had mentioned they were away somewhere. Bad, bad experience! read more

Awful service, the server could barely be bothered to cross the room and take and order or deliver someone a check. The only available booth was dirty when we entered and had a spray bottle on it and we were told to seat ourselves, so we proceeded to wipe the table with a napkin when the server snapped at us and said (through her unmasked sniffles) she leaves the spray bottle to remind herself to clean. I am writing this review while 30 mins into waiting for food while there is only a grand total of 4 tables to serve, so who knows how the food tastes or if we will ever get the privilege of receiving it. I had the Balsamic Salad, so probably not their best dish, but I found it to be very mediocre. I also found the booth to be really uncomfortable. I'm impressed with this little pub! The atmosphere is casual but nice with a British pub ambiance that's classy not cheesy. My husband ordered the CBS draft but it was too stout for him. So I tried it and really liked the malty-coffee flavor. I drank it. He ordered something Belgian and liked it better. We both had the Reuben sandwich and shared a Scottish egg. The sandwiches were delicious and the fries crisp and perfectly seasoned. And what a treat the Scottish egg is! A boiled egg is wrapped in a seasoned sausage, lightly breaded and deep fried served with a slightly spiced aioli. It's delicious. Good service too. They were busy on a Friday evening. My wife and I enjoyed our evening at the Groggy Dog last evening. Nice ambience, tasty food, and good beverage selection. The steak sandwich was cooked as ordered (medium rare) and came with an abundance of fries. We added a house side salad to our meals in lieu of an appetizer and it was terrific.
