Friday Night At the Angry Gold Fish This is usually a solid place to get a burger, but came up short. We arrived around 7:30 and it was busy. I asked for the corner table which was large and there were two of us. I chose it because it was quiet and it was so loud. The waitress seamed super annoyed. I am deaf in one ear and this was the best place so I could hear and actually enjoy the place. I didn't feel her attitude was justified. If she would have kept pushing the point it was going to get pushed to the manager as I have several disabilities and I don't use them, but I do choose certain places to sit to help manage them. My expectation is for the waitress to be kind and shouldn't matter if it's two people, four people, or six people. Should be glad to have a customer and business. My wife and I got a Knob Creek on the rocks to start off. We also each got the old fashion, one with tots and one with fries. The burgers have really good flavor, but wasn't even hot. The bun was super dry and I wound up leaving the bun and eating the burger. The tots were really good, but also not hot. My wife's was the same. The French fries were good, but not hot. I didn't say anything to the waitress because based on her attitude it was just going to make the night worse and I was out to have a nice evening. I have been here several times and this is my first bad experience here and I hope it's not a sign that the restaurant is going downhill. This is one of my go to spots in Des Moines to get a great burger and it should be fire on a Friday night. Fresh and delicious, not cold and dry, is the new requirement, an angry waitress to complete the Angry Goldfish vibe?

    The bowl.

The food was amazing, and enough for several meals. I had the bowl, I know the name is longer than that, but it was so good. My daughter had the pot roast, and it was so perfectly cooked. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. The atmosphere is laid back and full of great little eye catching details. My daughter mentioned that if she ever moves to Iowa it would be for the pot roast!

The Angry Goldfish is a fantastic bar/restaurant for families and adults. The room was packed with people of all ages. This dive bar looking building on the side of the road offers so much. The room is spacious with several seating options. The decor is rustic and cute. Our server was incredibly sweet. He greeted us right away and seated us in a larger booth so we wouldn't have to wait. He was friendly and attentive. My friend loved her Peanut Butter & Jelly Burger. I really enjoyed my Classic Smash Burger. The Pretzel appetizer was great too!! Their parking lot is pretty small so we parked across the small highway. We had to make a run for it but traffic was sporadic and gave us the opportunity to dash.

Great food, atmosphere and service! My wife and I have already worked our way through the alphabet (restaurants starting with) in the Des Moines area once and we had so much fun we are going through it again trying new places. Angry Goldfish was our first stop. The group had the PBJ burger, Boursin burger, fish and chips, and meatloaf. All of us loved our food. Service was fast. Will definitely return to this one again.

    Chicken sandwich

Food: was really good. Personal enjoyment the chicken sandwich more then the asian burger Ambiance: cozy bar. Warning: **COLD***, thankfully my dad warned me before going. My toes were numb. Service: fast and friendly service

Comfort food with terrific customer service in a cozy place? Sign me up, as we had a positive first visit to the Angry Goldfish! And yes, the name is an excellent play on words... There is plenty of parking, an outdoor deck that looks like a good option when it isn't so darn cold, and a fun interior loaded with signs and neon laced with humor, and we enjoyed the music throughout our stay. The interior mixes tables and booths with a full bar and many TVs. They'll take reservations on their website for parties of five or more or those with special needs. Coca-Cola products. It's just a great vibe here. Our server, Monte, rocked our entire visit. He was a fun guy with excellent people skills and a fantastic feel for his venue. I let him select my meal option, as the menu had so many intriguing options, and he nailed it: The Southside Famous Bowl ($15), a savory collection I loved. Skin on mashed potatoes with gravy, a plentiful scoop of sweet corn, and seasoned fried/crispy chicken. Oh my! Wow. My Way Better Half loved her Bruschetta Chicken Sandwich ($15), grilled chicken with Swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, basil, garlic Aioli, and Parmesan fries. Tip: get their signature Sriracha seasoned goldfish crackers as an appetizer for a buck. They're hot but so delicious. The Angry Goldfish has a pair of brand-new big fans.

Lots of fun coming here with my large team of 10 after Speech and Debate Nationals. 1. The buffalo chicken dip with chips is to die for. It was so good and the first appetizer gone from our table. 2. Best fried pickles and I don't even like pickles that much 3. Sever was great and very attentive, we were also there when it wasn't busy tho (in the afternoon) 4. Boursin burger - my patty was a little drier than I would've liked, but the Boursin and all the flavors together were good and I was already full from the starters we got

Well your yelp page and Apple Maps state dogs are welcome, yet our first and last experience here was started with "We don't allow dogs on the patio but we'll allow it this time", and said something along the lines that there's a new ordinance in south Des Moines that doesn't allow dogs on their patio, which is a total lie. Then followed with the busboy checking on us every 5 minutes, but not checking on the tables around us, which made us feel super rushed and unwelcome. A note to the owner, if you don't like dogs, then just let us dog owners know and we will happily take our business to the countless restaurants/bars with better food, patios, and service in Des Moines that happily welcome us and our dog.

4.6* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 4* Value: 4* Service: 5* Would I go back / Recommend?: 5* (Definitely) Total check/person: $29 06/25/2024 Finally got the chance to return with my wife after our neighbors asked us to join them for dinner here. We both enjoyed the atmosphere, drinks and food during our visit. We started with a Mojito (see picture) and Old Fashioned (see picture) - both very good drinks. For our dinner, my wife opted for the Asian Peanut Butter & Jelly Burger (see picture), our neighbor had the Boursin Burger (see picture) and I went with the AG Burger (see picture). All of them were delicious, as were the french fries and tater tots. This place is definitely worth a stop and next time we'll try to go again on a Tuesday and remember their Burger & Pint special.

Food and service were both great. Super friendly staff. We got the sriracha seasoned goldfish (not pictured) and they were so delish! Not crazy spicy. Pictured is the "Boursin Burger"... one of the best burgers I've ever had. So much flavor.

Pulled pork sandwich with parmesean fries

Food really good, definitely will come back if parking available. We almost left due to no parking spots. Luckily someone left and we got a parking spot.

Such a fun small spot to visit right of the edge of downtown. It's darker inside & can be tricky to read the menu, but it adds to the laid back vibes. This visit we just did drinks with an appetizer of Spinach Artichoke Dip & it was so good. Not your average greasy dip, but more of a cream base & delicious! All food is very 'home cooked' style.

Food was amazing! Was treated well and lots of genuine compassion. Music gave a fantastic vibe and I consider it my new go to location.

Lastly, our server was a young blonde girl that kept the drinks flowing and provided amazing service.
