I have a confession to make: I am an adult woman, and I hate clothes shopping. I hate it. Whenever…read moreI go to department stores or big box stores or frankly 90% of stores that claim to sell women's clothing, I'm disappointed. I'm a big girl--not so much "wide" big (although I could stand to lose some weight), but Russian peasant "built like a brick shithouse" big. Hence, I've learned to associate clothes shopping with disappointment. Even if someone does have clothing in my size, even if we're talking the more expensive stores, most women's clothing is designed with a skinny 15-year-old girl with a delicate frame in mind. When they size that crap up, yeah, it fits me, but I come out of the dressing room looking like Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap, when he lands in the body of some poor schmuck with a pair of tits. Or worse--the designers know that particular frock's not going to cut a good shape on a girl who actually resembles the national average, so they add ruffles or pink leopard print or not-particularly-well-thought-out decorative buttons. Hazel Boutique quite literally changed my mindset about clothes shopping. Here's why: The styles are classically stylish AND they work for someone my age (late 20s). And the stuff they carry fits me, how I carry myself, and how I see myself. They have shirts with roomy shoulders that still remind folks that you're not a lumberjack. They have dresses that are roomy on the bottom and say "Hey, check out this girl's awesome childbearing hips!" rather than the usual "OMG, let's pretend these hips don't exist, and maybe we can pass for normal." The clothing is decorated in its construction more than with baubles added on to dazzle. And it's designed with an eye toward showcasing your figure rather than using you as a vehicle for whatever fashion trend some twit in NYC thinks is the latest and greatest. Yes, it's expensive. But I actually wear the nice clothes I get there. And I enjoy wearing them.

Just everything. From their wish lists, to their selection. Never really looking for anything…read moreand always find plenty. Terrific customer service makes it extra special.

Stopped in yesterday on my back to Boston from Ogunquit. What a wonderful shop! Large inventory…read moreof items including high end and moderately priced items. What caught my eye was the more "dressy" items that you normally don't see in a resort town shop mixed in with the more casual and "beach" clothing. This shop holds an amazing collection of clothes, accessories and gift items. The staff could not be more friendly or less intrusive! They are extremely welcoming and helpful.

Another year, another update. On vacation again, doing laundry again, and needed to spend the "dry…read moretime" so walked next door to Daisy Jane's. Still an aesthetically pleasing place to browse, and they have a select quantity of beautiful clothing, shoes, and accessories. So many lovely, quality items! This year I bought two ample-sized shawl/wrap/scarves (Daisy big wrap) for when it eventually gets cold (it was in the 80s the day I bought them, but I know winter is a-comin'). They are incredibly soft, and come in the most gorgeous colors (I bought one in a deep plum color, and another in a rich teal. I hate winter, but I will be prepared to keep warm in style. The wraps were just $24, and I already know I'll be getting many compliments when I wear these. I also bought a light, airy poncho that can be worn several ways. I bought one here last year--in indigo--and I wear it over solid-colored basics. I never fail to get compliments on it (and it adds just the right amount of light warmth and coverage, as well as a pop of color--sorry, I normally stay away from using overplayed terms like that, but it fits). It's the Van Klee poncho, just $22, and I got one in fuschia. I fell in lust with some of their fabulous jewelry but had to get back to my laundry. I think I'll be back before heading home on the weekend. As noted in my previous review, the ladies working in the shop were friendly and helpful, but not right on top of me as I shopped (thank you, thank you). This is my favorite shop in York.

Great group/party reading during our "girls weekend" up in NH. Betty has a wonderful, warm, REAL…read morepersonality, and will lure you in with her great stories, friendly vibe, and just MAYBE some interesting messages from "beyond." I lost my husband two years ago, my mom about six months ago, and for better or worse, I've been "exploring" ways to (re)connect with them. Who knows?? Might not be much more than a quick, one-on-one, "alternative" therapy session, but every once in a while, SOMETHING hits home, whether it's just a word, phrase, or some little "tid-bit" only THEY would know. She did talk a lot about herself, but mostly in ways that would be relatable to what her clients are going through. Great stories about her experiences in NYC in her "heyday!!" I enjoyed the reading, Ms. Lipton's warmth and "style," and it was a fun, engaging, and at times enlightening experience to be a part of one of her events.

I had my first contact with Betty in her shop in Portsmouth, I was a young teenager had a friend Jen with me who wrote down a few things for me, I did the same for her, years later I went to a friends for a House Reading Party and Betty was there! I then have been back to visit Betty in her Office through out my many years of my life as I have crossed some Bridged, Burnt some Bridges, lost some friends, Lost some family, Loved ones and Furry Loved ones too, or just too much on my mind, needed a good day of clear inner spirit healing. I would definitely recommend going to Betty if you are thinking of seeing someone in her area of expertise, Betty is lots of fun to talk to and she has lots of great insight, I have always felt better after time spent with Betty. I have been able to get answers and information to questions I had that only passed friends or relatives could give me, with Betty's support. I have had Betty forewarned me about an illness, she had told me I would get sick and to not leave which made no sense at the time, why would I leave if I'm sick ok, 3 years later I was very ill but the ER Dr refused to treat me, he claimed I was just looking for pain pills (I was in College at the time) arrived at the ER with my Mother, I refused to leave, my Mom tried so hard to get me to leave and just go home. I refused I was sick! 9 hours later I was sent for an Ultrasound only if I would Leave after, I promised, my Appendix exploded on the Ultrasound screen, I left the Hospital 6 days later. It was LATER that my friend Jen reminded me of the Note that she had taken from Betty. I have gone back to see Betty many times since then and Betty has helped me with lots of my life's up and downs. I have been so Lucky to be able to have meetings with Betty Lipton. I don't think she is Quirky I think she is wonderful I love her energy.
