The Guru is a great event space located at the amazing Circa 1857 complex. It's tucked away toward the middle of the overall campus so it's conveniently located by the large interior parking area. This parking is off road, very large, fenced, and seems quite safe. The space itself is surrounded by other buildings and is medium sized. In keeping with the name, there are meditative motifs to the interior decorations. This space seems quite versatile, our group used the round tables with nice table cloths and folding chairs to enjoy a potluck and then hold a meeting. The space could be kept entirely open, used for talks or lectures, or ay sort of party. There are overhead doors on one wall that presumably could be opened for an indoor/outdoor event. Circa 1857 has such a great location on Government Street right be the Garden District, that it would be a convenient place to have a meeting or event. I hosted an event/mixer here last year and honestly the venue itself was the selling point for everyone. The owner is very sweet and you can tell she truly wants to provide a unique event space at a reasonable price. Another thing I loved about The Guru was being able to bring in your own food. It was hard for me to find a venue that let me bring my own food but also had the right #aesthetic lol! I didn't even decorate the place because it already done. They provided me with the tables (high top, circle, & rectangle), chairs, and even have linens available. There are 2 bathrooms and a back room where you can have your food/buffet set up. They even have this really awesome bar cart that my bartender was able to use! It can double for a beverage/food station too. (You know I added plenty of pics :P ) This is an extra bonus but I recently learned they also can host meetings, interview recordings, and more so it's not just for parties or weddings. On top of that, learning that the owner works to give back to the community/non profits is heartwarming. If you need an intimate, "not too big but just right" space, give this place a look! read more

We had a memorial for my brother at Guru and it could not have gone better. From first contact to close of doors, everyone involved were outstanding. I booked the Guru in August for my April wedding. The price is phenomenal for a venue. Sidney was great. I met with her twice, once to tour the venue with my (now) husband and once to tour the venue with my husband, mother, and mother-in-law. I made a couple of changes to what I wanted in the 8 months between booking and the event and she was accommodating. My brother in law set up for me and he says Sidney's manager did most of the work for him so thank you so much for that! It really looked beautiful and I'm so grateful to have been able to use such a beautiful venue that really didn't need much in the decor. read more

"New events space in Mid-City district". Serenity, peacefulness, artsy, unique and worldly were my thoughts upon walking into this stunning events space. Situated in the heart of Mid-City (off Government) on the Circa 1857 property. Baton Rouge is in definite need of this type of events space. Frankly, I am tired of the blank spaces that just don't have any character. The Guru is bursting with personality and simply stated, the un-boring. I felt so relaxed that I could have literally stayed the whole afternoon and napped on one of their comfy couches. Looking for an events space for an intimate dinner party for 50-60 of your closest friends or a cocktail event (standing room only) with a 100 of your near and dear compadres? I urge you to come here because this might be exactly what you are looking for. I was in love! Sidney is an angel. Working with her has been so pleasant, and she actually cares about her clients and tries her hardest to make your event as special as can be. She is very hospitable, and very considerate about all things that other vendors may not care about for your event. The space is absolutely beautiful and has a feel that will impress even the highest profile crowd. It also has a cozy feel that makes you not even want to leave the space. The space is clean, smells nice, has great lighting, and in a great location. It's definitely a unique feel and you don't need a lot of decorations to make it come alive. She has tables, chairs, sound, and much more. I definitely think the guru is something Baton Rouge has been needing for quite some time. read more

I previously attended an event hosted at this location. A group of friends and I went out to celebrate a fellow friend for his reception. The owner seemed uneasy about us being there and while we were trying to congratulate our friend she demanded we leave out of the room he was present in due to it being for only the wedding party. We then left the room with no problem and fixed our food and went to a table. There weren't any chairs at the table we were at so we stood up to eat. We were then asked to leave out of that area and go outside because we didn't have masks on. We understood that COVID 19 is still very present and we must take safety precautions but we weren't the only guests without mask but we were the only guests asked to leave and go outside and we were the only guest of color present. read more

What a gorgeous, exotic space! It has been beautifully renovated and decorated with Buddhas, the Virgin of Guadeloupe, and other symbols of the spirituality and mysteries in our Universe. At the same time that The Guru exudes peace and serenity, it also feels urban and cool. Fantastic combo! I had a Pop-Up shop here, and it was absolutely perfect. Oh, the parties here must be heaven. I highly recommend the space as well as working with Sidney, the owner, and her manager. They have a knack at filling in the details of your event and making it divine. The Guru is one of my favorite special event spots in Baton Rouge! The eclectic location simply can't be beat and the decor in the space is unique. Sidney had curated some really interesting pieces of art that compliment the exposed brick walls, elegantly stained concrete and beautiful chandeliers.
