My time in Maui would not be the same without Club Makena or Coach Paul. The workouts are intense but coach breaks it down so a newbie like me could see progress on my movement, strength, and flexibility in no time! Amazing gym. Not only does it have more barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, and racks than I've ever seen, it's also got a lot of obscure but useful fitness equipment I can't often consistently find at other gyms (ex. ab roller, sledgehammer, sled). Great spot. Best single day or multi day deals (especially if there's 2 of you). Full recovery room with sauna/icebath and red light therapy. Has a cardio floor, tons of power racks with westside barbell hole spacing, and all the machines you'd find in any commercial gym. Has an entire crossfit area in the back, and It's located in an industrial park, so it has roll-up doors that open up to plenty of space to perform whatever wod you have that day. very pleasant experience. Every morning, I arrived right when they opened and had the whole gym to myself. I really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor environment this offers, the owner was also very kind and personable :). They even have the cutest dog walking around the gym too. All the equipment is old style equipment, which I also enjoyed. I would 10/10 recommend it for a gym away from home. Traveled from CA to Maui for a week - purchased a 3 day pass for about $60 (?). I am saddened to give this gym a one star rating because I believe in the life changing fitness they likely bring to their clients. However, I am completely against them making personal choices for me. At the door, I was greeted by a large sign that said "Masks Not Allowed." As a mom with Lupus, I respect everyone's personal choice, to mask, unmask, to vaccinate or not vaccinate, to lift with a back brace or to lift without, to consume protein before or after a workout. Your body, you choice. I am disappointed that as a member of your community, you wouldn't encourage me make decisions for myself; to do what is right for me. I do the same for you. That said, if you are trying to "discourage" mask use for the sake of medical reasons, such as possible shortness of breath while working out, I would kindly suggest rewording your verbiage to be less oppressive. read more

The Gym Maui is incredibly dynamic with what you're aiming to change for yourself. The options for your goals are limitless. Cardio machines are present such as treadmills, rowers, ellipticals and much more. Free weight racks are awesome to have, and your range with gains in strength training and body building are readily available. If the free weights are too much to handle for you, there's varying machines at the ready that are great alternatives. Benches and safety support equipment are lined up for everyone to use. (I'd like to mention this, if you're going to workout here, please put back your equipment and wipe down your sweat off the seats and benches after each use. We're just keeping it clean and safe here.) Back to the review. Although from time to time there's big, muscular guys working out, please don't be intimidated, they're the coolest guys that'll spot you when asked nicely, and they'll provide plentiful information to target your goals. Throughout the week, there's classes you're able to sign up for like yoga and much more. But if you're looking for high intensity, don't look far, Makena Crossfit are operating under the same roof from early in the morning and into the evening. HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is their goal, and their training schedule is dynamic, so you won't get bored doing the same routines every week. After a long session, the showers and restrooms are available for members to use, always clean and tidy. There's no cons in my opinion but to others it may: 1) There's no AC, the only thing cooling you down is the breeze from the outside air circulating around the gym. All doors are open for circulation. 2) Gym equipment are heavily used to an extent of wear and tear is visible, however, staff carefully maintain them on a daily basis. A gym that Arnold would've gladly worked out in. 3) Crossfit is under the same roof, so it's going to be loud and certain folks don't like loud noises. It's obviously not a library. I love this gym, the staff are always welcoming and supportive, especially fellow gym goers, just ask for help and we'll do what we can. Please call Coach Paul for an appointment to tour the gym. The Maui gym/Crossfit Makena is a must do if you're into fitness and visiting Maui. There is a huge array of equipment and Paul, the owner, is an excellent instructor and makes exercising so much fun! We first visited CrossFit Makena in lune and had so much fun we came back during our short stay this time. When visiting Maui, going to CrossFit Makena is synonymous with heading to the beach or playing a little golf. Thank you, Paul, for providing this opportunity and persevering these last few years. Hands down one of the best gyms in the world. Large open area's with fresh air always flowing in. Constant updates and a traditional pumping iron feel with a modern CrossFit spin. Very motivating and athletic people encouraging others to accomplish their goals and lots of healthy living. Nothing is ever for everyone, however I always encourage anyone wanting to train to check out The Gym Maui. All of the staff work hard and they themselves train at the gym. Sanitizer is used throughout and plenty are available to ensure you're not touching microscopic hazardous materials. Everyone here is very welcoming and it's a community that always has your back. A standard weight floor where the members are kind, respectful, & hard working. As a female, sometimes gym floors can get a bit creepy... and I never got that vibe at this facility which was very refreshing. They have functional fitness equipment which I love as well as bosu/stability balls for balance and core training. After your kick-ass workout you can go in the sauna, get a smoothie, or buy supplements from one of the knowledgeable staff members. I had the privilege of meeting the owner Paul and his dog Kobe who gave off all the good vibes. Plus, he hooked me up with a bunch of referrals and recommendations for local businesses and things to do in Maui. Since the pandemic happened, I have been looking for a new gym that was safe and clean. This is NOT the place. As a single woman I look for places where I feel safe and comfortable to train. I am extremely disguised with the way the men, specifically the owner - Paul Romero, treats women. It's completely inappropriate the way Paul stares, flirts, and constantly hits on women in this gym. This is why they have created women's only gyms around the world. I felt completely uncomfortable as if I was being preyed on, like a piece of meat. I have since heard similar complaints from other women who used to attend this gym. In addition, from what I have seen, the members and staff of this gym do not practice social distancing, especially in their CrossFit and other fitness classes, as they are packed full of people. I can only imagine how clean this gym really is. I am completely dissatisfied and disgusted and do not plan to ever return. Save yourself the trouble and go to Maui Powerhouse instead. Paul, the owner of the gym is the bestttttt! After searching for a good gym to get a workout in while in Maui, we couldn't have made the better decision to workout at THE GYM. It's clean, efficient, and has everything you need from a purified water system, bathroom/locker room, smoothie bar, to even a cold plunge and more! We were lucky enough to meet and talk to Paul. He is such a down to earth, sincere guy with great energy and it really runs off on the gym he's running. Top notch! Anyway between Paul's energy and The Gym, we enjoyed it that much that... By far the one of the best parts of our Maui Trip. My fiancé and I are both gym junkies so it was a must for us to find a place to get a workout. Called around a bunch of places and by far the staff at The Gym Maui were the most helpful and kind. Walked right in, got a temp pass for a few day, no issues, no long contracts, exactly what you want the experience to be like. The gym itself is bad ass. Big open doors, rugged but great equipment, fantastic water refill station, and just a bunch of people getting after it! Wish I had a gym like this back in Vegas. Thanks and shoutout to Will, who I happened to run into while on a hike, had a really nice exchange with him and he gifted me a ring off his hand. A serious gym for a serious training session! In Maui for a wedding, but still needed to get my gym time in. The Gym Maui stood out as the ideal gym. From the pictures on the wall, the gym has been around for a long time, and it shows. Old school approach but obviously keeping up with the modern fitness trends. At its heart, it's a bodybuilding gym. But there's a mma and CrossFit going on, and other fitness classes. I lift in a powerlifting style, so only one power rack and no chalk bowls were a bummer. But I still able to do the work I needed to stay on track with my training. If you bodybuild, CrossFit, general fitness, etc. you ahoukd be pleased. Clean premises. Friendly staff. Not overly crowded while I was there. Reasonable day/drop-on rates. Went there twice and enjoyed both sessions. read more

One word: Extraordinary. Wished I lived in Maui to continue to lift there, but it will be my iron paradise away from home. This is a true bodybuilding gym; old school/golden era bleeds through each machine and piece of iron here. They even have the same hack squat machine that Tom Platz preferred. If you love bodybuilding and happen to be fortunate enough to either live or be visiting in Maui, then this is a must visit. They offer day passes that are extremely reasonable compared to other gyms on the island. I'll be coming back to the island next year with a suitcase full of gym clothes lol. read more

Came here for a pre-wedding-i-need-to-fit-into-my-dress workout session. Checking in was super easy: Sign in your name, pay $10 in cash and go workout ! The bathroom is really clean. Though the equipment are a little old, it works! I love the upstairs area where you can do cardio and there is a giant mat for me to do my floor exercise.
