I visited Maui for 3 weeks and needed to keep up my strength training. Maui Powerhouse Gym exceeded my expectations! For $100, I was able to use the gym as often as I wished for up to 30 days. They have every type of weight, machine, and piece of equipment I could have possibly needed, including exercise balls, foam rollers, and sliders (physical therapy aids). "Oh no! What could improve?" It would be great if management took the time to listen to members' concerns with openness and professionalism. When members share honest feedback, the responses can sometimes feel defensive or dismissive -- as seen in how they reacted to my partner's earlier review. That kind of reaction makes it harder for people to feel heard and supported. We're only hoping to raise awareness so this gym can grow into a more respectful, welcoming community for everyone. I joined this gym and quickly found a strong sense of community amongst many of the members. Unfortunately, that sense of belonging was overshadowed by how management/owners handled a serious situation. Earlier this year, I was involved in an incident where another member physically threatened me. I brought this matter to the staff's attention and after I discussed the situation with the owner I was labeled the instigator. Instead of reviewing the full video footage or speaking to any witnesses, I was labeled the instigator. My partner then tried to provide her witness statement but it was disregarded. We also reached out by email to ask how to formally raise concerns, so that everyone can be heard objectively and situations could be handled appropriately- but the gym never responded. Months later, my membership was terminated based on unverified accusations from other members--without any direct conversation or opportunity to respond. I only learned about my termination when my partner, who was also a member, received the termination letter via email. The email she received showed another email that did not belong to me. She was also terminated, despite having no involvement in any of the accusations mentioned in the letter. What's especially troubling was the letter itself: it imposes a 180-day "cool-down period" before we could do anything, stating that any letters "will not be read," and even warns that if I or anyone else attempts to contact them or speak on my behalf, the waiting period could be extended. This policy effectively cuts off all communication and feels punitive and intimidating rather than professional. Throughout this ordeal, I often felt singled out and bullied by how the situation was handled. The process felt less like a fair resolution and more like being shut down entirely. I've since spoken with several other members--whom, like myself, are born-and raised locals to the island. That pattern raises valid concerns about bias and inconsistent treatment of members. Given the owner's background as a licensed lawyer, I expected a higher standard of due diligence, professionalism, and fairness. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I understand my right under the Consumer Review Fairness Act (15 U.S.C. § 45b) to share an honest account of my personal experience. This review reflects my good-faith opinion and the facts as I experienced them. For transparency, I've included screenshots of my partner's unanswered email to the gym asking how to file a complaint and my partner's written witness statement that was never acknowledged. I've also attached excerpts from the termination letter showing the immediate termination, the "no-appeal / 180-day cool-down" clause, and the warning that any attempt to contact or "lobby" them could extend that period. These documents illustrate the lack of communication, due diligence, and accountability in how this situation was handled. I was in Maui and knew I wanted to get an actual workout in besides walking around. I found this place on Class pass and I had no idea what I was in for. I took the Sculpt: Power Pump class. The location is nice. It's close to food places, coffee shops, CVS so I had something to do when I arrived 45 minutes early. I checked in with the person at the front desk and he led me in the back to the class rooms. The room fit about 30 people and I had no idea what was going on. People in the class were super nice and friendly and told me to get my weights and which weights to get. Then the instructor, Jen, walked in and she was in great shape and was smiley and bubbly. I had a feeling this was going to be a good workout. This class reminded me of the aerobic videos from the 90s that your mom would have on VHS. What I loved about Jen's instructing is that she made everyone feel comfortable no matter their workout abilities. She encouraged us the entire class to modify or pick up smaller weights if the workouts were too much for us. She had a good pop playlist and I think everyone could have found a song they knew the words to. The movements weren't super intense but I built up a sweat and felt my muscles hurt as the movements weren't super being done. I love a good burn. I hope I can take another one of her classes the next time I'm on the island. read more

I've been really happy with my experience at Maui Powerhouse! The hours work well for my schedule, and I love that I never have to worry about bringing my own towel. The front desk staff are consistently friendly and often greet me by name, which makes it feel welcoming and personal. And I appreciate the continual reinvestment, especially in new bikes and expanded strength training areas. Hands down, the biggest draw for me are Diane's 6:45 am classes. She has a way of making everyone feel welcome, regardless of fitness level. Yet she continually challenges the more experienced riders in every class. Can't recommend her enough! Note for new or visiting riders: Cycle shoes are not required. Come in your regular workout shoes and give one of Diane's classes a shot! read more

This gym is a staple of my life. They are always doing upgrades and the artwork on the walls is super fun island style. There's a room with female characters to inspire you, which I love! Maui Powerhouse Gym - my gym away from gym. Most people go to Hawaii with the idea of getting away from it all. My reasons were a bit different. Knowing it would be a stressful trip, I wanted to provide myself with a few distractors. Maui Powerhouse Gym or MPHG became that refuge. There's an excellent and generous guest membership program. I was there for two weeks and opted for a 10 consecutive day pass for $90.00. That's $9.00 a visit and I usually work out for about 90 minutes! The registration process was quick and easy. The staff is efficient and helpful. I was driving my father's car which needed service and they provided a few options that were close by. There are stations with paper towels and spray bottles of disinfectant located all over the gym. The facility was well maintained and pretty clean. The indoor temperature was comfortable. In terms of equipment, there's a generous helping of everything. This is definitely a place for serious body builders. It is a busy place but I found wait times to be short. Also, the more popular equipment, like cable stations are duplicated. I have a trainer who assigns structured workouts through the app, TrueCoach. MPHG had all the equipment I needed to complete my structured workouts and then some. There's a land mine which provides the opportunity to truly work the core in ways that will give you that great sore, worked out feeling. I was concerned about maintaining a six-pack and think I actually improved upon it! There's adequate locker room, bathroom, shower facilities and a sauna. Additionally, there's great gym swag - the best I've ever seen! I bought a shirt for my husband, trainer, and a couple for myself. There's excellent variety as well as creativity in the designs and they use high quality fabrics. The logo design is clever. Any item will make a memorable souvenir. I was very grateful for this facility. It provided a great place to decompress. This gym is located in the Azeka Center Mauka on Kihei Road. Unfortunately, there are a few closed store fronts giving the side of the center nearest the gym a deserted feel. Park as close to the gym as possible or in front of an open business. Many of Kihei's homeless and mentally ill residents frequent this mall-there's a few sketchy and scary characters. Be vigilant and don't leave items in your car. MPHG itself is very safe. If you're not staying at a place that has a fitness center on site, make MPHG your gym away from gym! read more
