Most hotels offer shower only rooms after remodeling. Breakfast in the hotel was amazing; included fresh fruits and juices, the traditional Irish entrees or you could opt for pancakes. Every meal includes potatoes; good potatoes. Something special about this hotel is the lavender balm. I meant to request more before I left. You rub this on your wrists or neck before bed and it is supposed to relax you and promote better sleep. It smells so good.

It's where I "supervised" my little sister's Debs. I never ended up going to my own Debs so I bought a sexy dress and brought the date I'd hoped to bring ten years previously. We took photos and drank and gazed out the enormous windows at the tall trees in the night. The only supervising we did was rating the girls' dresses as they danced with their fellas' ties loosely wrapped around them. In fact, the supervisors' table was the one with the most empty vodka bottles beneath it. The bathrooms in the Keadeen Hotel are beautiful. I love peeing here. If Avoca and Kath Kidston were compressed into a loo area, it would look like this. The Keadeen is where I brought the embryo of the book I was writing. I'd carry my laptop and a pot of tea to a comfy armchair in the lounge and type away happily, occasionally listening in on the conversations of the old folks or the business meetings. And Bellingham Castle was the chosen venue and boy it exceeded all expectations. I even got to stay here for one night and they had such a pleasant hospitality. We ended up getting the "Kevin" room, which had a balcony view of the garden and patches of greenery that stretched as far as the eye could see. The place was really peaceful and my New York State of mind was completely gone, although temporarily. I really felt like a little kid when I went on to explore the different rooms in the castle. The furnishings and designs are things you would expect to see in films. My favorite rooms were probably the Bottlery (wine room) and The Buttery (the kitchen). Their castle dog, Ri, was super adorable and roamed around as if he owns the place. Some castles can feel intimidating but this place felt very intimate and homey. If only I could live there forever....

As a Marriott Lifetime Platinum Elite member from the United States, I am accustomed to a high standard of hospitality, and the sequence of events that unfolded this evening at the Carton House Hotel Ireland property is entirely unacceptable. Upon my arrival this afternoon, I immediately notified the front desk that the air conditioning in my room was malfunctioning. I was instructed to set the temperature to cold and wait two hours for the system to adjust. Trusting this guidance, I left the room for dinner. Note: No offer to change rooms. When I returned, I found the room hot, stuffy, and entirely uncomfortable. I contacted the front desk a second time, only to be informed that no engineering staff was on the premises. Again, no offer to change my room. The immediate solution offered was a portable fan. The situation deteriorated further when housekeeping arrived to deliver the fan. The attendant informed me that the control unit for the fan belonged to him personally and could not be left in my possession. They entered my room, adjusted the fan to my requested setting, and departed with the remote control, leaving me with no ability to regulate the fan speed or temperature during the night. No offer to move me to a different room with air. To compound these operational failures, it took over full two hours--and forced interactions with four different staff members--before a manager finally contacted me to inquire about the issue. Having to catch a taxi to airport at 4:30 AM, this entire experience has been an exhausting fiasco. The complete lack of customer service, proactive problem-solving, the absence of maintenance personnel on a weekend evening, and the highly unprofessional handling of a basic comfort request are beneath the standards the Fairmont brand commands. Due to the severe discomfort and the substandard handling of this matter, I expect a prompt explanation regarding how this occurred and an appropriate resolution to address this failure in customer service. The manager offered to discount my family's rooms - that's good but not the point. Fairmont Corporate needs to review their standards handling patrons at the Carton House Hotel ((Ireland) I look forward to a swift response from Fairmont Corporate.

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. Highly recommend staying at Kilkea Castle Hotel!

It had an in - room kettle tea/coffee biscuits, a tv that was a bit of a challenge to get to work and it was so quiet. So the tv is tuned to open at a menu featuring N'flix and it took a minute to realise I had to click along several boxes to reach the tv icon so it's no longer simple just to put on the tv. Our deal included dinner. We had a one course main so opted to pay €7.5 up charge for 10oz sirloins. The food was delicious and the portions generous. Each main included chips, but we held one back as we knew we simply wouldn't eat that much food and we really dislike food waste. While they had English mustard they didn't have the finest - Colman's. Breakfast was pretty good particularly if you are sausage bacon and egg inclined. Most of my breakfast was made from scratch and tasty. There's no fresh fruit, no cold meats, no fish (I realise this is my first visit and the owners will know what works at breakfast and I've been in higher star hotels that don't offer fish) and the mini croissants and mini chocolate croissants do really need re thought and upgraded. I'm aware too that myopic politicians in the country are deliberately punishing small hotels, outside the capital, by taxing hospitality to give the multi national hotel operators a punch in the nose for mercenary price gouging much of which is disgraceful. All the staff were genuinely friendly and the hotel environment was delightful. Hope to return.

Couldn't get away from the place quick enough. Walked into the carvery at 12.26pm and 6-8 staff stood at the other end of the room. Carvery doesn't open till 12.30pm and I'm not sure how it works - do I seat myself? Do I get seated? No idea. And if I hadn't shouted down the restaurant at the staff, I'd still be standing there none the wiser. I'd been reassured by the woman at the front desk that their carvery was 'the best,' the meat was delicious and juicy, but beyond that it was rough going. Breakfast wasn't much better - and again, no one was particularly helpful about how the system worked. Lots of staff, just not very helpful. Room was absolutely freezing (in May!). There was a bright light from a corridor across the alleyway beaming into the room all night, and the walls were paper thin so it was loud all night, the room phone kept making an audible dial tone so I had to disconnect it. For the price, I wasn't thrilled at all.
