We stayed here for a few days and was a good experience. Bob at concierge was super friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious and king bed was very comfortable. We had a balcony for no extra charge which gave great view of the mountains. They have a bar downstairs with Sherrie mixing excellent cosmos. The big dining area named The Maple Room was open for breakfast and dinner. Chef Randy cooks wonderfully and his BBQ menu is highly recommended.. My wife had the scallops & they were outstanding. Rooms are moderately priced. Hancock Hotel is a hidden gem in the Catskills.

Nice little small town hotel in the far west of the Catskills. The room was great and the staff even better, especially housekeeping! And what a great little town. The most peaceful nights sleep I have had in ages.

No where does it say only served until 11:30.

I've never stayed here, but I'm sure it's beautiful. I have however tried to eat here. We entered the dining room and every table was eating breakfast, just what I wanted. We were seated promptly and given menus, lunch menus. But we really wanted breakfast. We had been on the road and looked for places to eat on the web. This place looked nice and the menu looked inviting. But the invitation ends at 11:30, not stated on the website. We were told at 11:45 that we could not have breakfast. Although the table next to us was just served theirs. Did the eggs jump back into the chickens? So denied breakfast, I felt like Michael Douglas in Falling Down. Like I said, I've never stayed here and probably won't.

I don't like leaving a not-so-good review after a single visit but it's my only time in Hancock. Please note that this covers the restaurant only, not the hotel; and note that they were short staffed. The place is charming and looks like comfortable hotel. The restaurant was closed for some reason, but the server said they serve the same menu at the bar. That was fine with us, as the bar was spacious and reasonably quiet, with comfortable booths. We were in no rush. Good thing, because service was very slow. The server explained she was handling the place alone. She also explained it was the chef's first day back after a long absence. The food was OK. Average diner quality. Nothing horrible or spoiled but nothing memorable either. I had the pot roast and baked potato. The roast was tender and flavorful but the gravy was the same standard gravy served on everything. Not awful but seemed like a purchased gravy, not house made, and rather salty. Steamed broccoli was made from fresh. It was properly cooked but lukewarm. Salad came late; and this was after waiting what must have been 20 minutes for the food. Our glasses were empty and we had to ask for water. Server was apologetic. I suspect the service is usually better but the food is just ok.

View of the town. The whole town.

Stay at the hotel but do not eat at the restaurant... and here's why: There aren't many hotels in the area and this place was recently remodeled at the time of my visit. Therefore the accommodations were clean and comfortable, mostly. This place is considerably better than anything else within a reasonable distance. We decided to have dinner at the restaurant, right downstairs. I ordered prime rib, rare. When ordering, I specifically asked if it could be prepared to my specification because I do not enjoy eating well done meat and will not eat anything above medium-rare. I always ask this because I have no problem ordering something else. The waitress told me that my prime rib would be prepared to temp. Don't you know it came out well past WELL DONE and looking like dog food. I politely pointed out that the prime rib was not rare at all and asked again if rare was a possibility. She left with the plate and then returned with the plate. She told me that the chef said I needed to cut into the meat to determine the temperature. IT WAS PRIME RIB! For those of you who don't know anything about meat (including the chef at this place), prime rib is not grilled like a steak. It is slow roasted and then sliced to order. Therefore, the temperature of the meat is consistent throughout. Anyway, I will not be back anytime soon to be served dog food by an incompetent chef. I realize that this place is in the middle of nowhere where people don't have the good sense to have standards. If you are a local, I'm sure this place is satisfactory. If you have ever been to a restaurant in any major city, you will not be impressed by the lack of hospitality and competence found here. However, this visit was years ago and it is possible that conditions have since improved.

I went to a wedding in Fish Eddie and stayed here for only one night. We communicated through emails. Becky replied nicely and upgraded me to a queen bed room. Since I drove alone and not familiar with this area, she gave me a lot of useful advices and checked the routes for me (the bridge closed so I had to detour...). The next day before I left, she cooked homemade breakfast and let me take my time enjoy my coffee even though it was a little bit late. Usually I'm a very picky guest, but I love this place so much! Feel so thankful for her warm hospitality. Can't wait to go back soon! Highly recommended!!

From our first interaction with the owner, Becky, we had nothing but an incredible experience. We called to book the weekend, and since it was after the high season of summer, she gave us a special rate for two nights in the Honeymoon Suite. We sent her in a deposit, and called her the day of to confirm the best time of arrival. She was completely casual and accommodating and said to just stop by whenever. When we showed up, she gave us the tour of the Suite, which turned out to be the entire basement of her home! We had a private entrance, a working fireplace, a full ensuite bathroom with an incredible shower setup, a huge sectional sofa that could have fit at least eight people, a master bedroom with a queen size bed, as well as a second twin bedroom that we did not even use. Perfect if we ever go back and bring more guests with us! After we unpacked Becky invited us upstairs for wine and cheese with the other guests. I thought that sort of thing only happened in movies! She gave us some great recommendations for places to go for dinner, and asked what time we would like breakfast in the morning. When we said we were flexible, she said warmly, "well that works for me, you don't need reservations here!" The next morning we had delicious, strong coffee, I had eggs with green peppers and onions with oat nut toast, and my boyfriend had stuffed French Toast, two huge slices of Italian bread glued together with fresh sliced strawberries and ricotta cheese. We even started the meal with two generous slices of banana cream cheese coffee cake, some of the moistest, sweetest start to breakfast that we have ever had. Later that afternoon, she invited us back up to the kitchen for tea, and, you guessed it, slices of the leftover cake. For our second day, she surprised us with souffle apple pancakes, a cross between an apple pie and a pancake, a delicious, buttery, crusty sweet and savory concoction made in a cast iron skillet. Not only that, but since we were the only guests that morning, we had to eat the entire sinful cylinder ourselves - oh well! We washed it down once more with plenty of delicious coffee and some of her homemade sausage that was made locally. The estate her house is on is simply gorgeous, and is adjacent to rolling green pastures where her horses live. While there is no horseback riding (bummer), you can walk up to the fence to see them grazing and take some breath taking pictures. Her dog, Milo, a Sheltie, is a delightful host's accomplice, who loves to play fetch and get petted. We had a lovely, relaxing weekend in the country at Becky's Bed and Breakfast, and cannot wait for next fall when we return.

Don't get me wrong, we still do day-trips to relive our many years we've vacationed there. And because Woodstock has been cramped, hubs decided to come up further out west to the sticks- without the snobbiness. We also got away for other reasons: my mid-winter recess from school and because my husband was a Navy man for umpteen years- where there's history and water, he's there. Green Acres Retreat made the cut for its style and close proximity to the Delaware River. Plus Green Acres R shifted from an old-fashioned motel to one that offers charm in spades since their '20 renovation. With 10 (I think) curated rooms, ours, was bold (for these parts) and extremely comfortable. From the crisp and plush white bedding, kitchenette, and walk-in shower- we were good. Green Acres' room designs lean towards nature with a tasteful feel. Be mindful that Rt17 is the main thoroughfare here- so you will hear 18-wheelers zoom by from your room. The heater made our room toasty- but the overhead vent layout was a bit off-putting. Towels were abundant, safe deposit box available as well as a mini fridge. The only negative for me was the plain mini wrapped soap bars for sink use and shower. And for these renovated rooms, offering classy mini toiletries add a wonderful sense of richness- which were missing here. And for $175 a night, the flimsy mini bar soaps weren't cutting it.
