This man is a crook and scam artist and should not be hired. Two months ago we hired him to install fence gates on our current house and gave him a 50% deposit. We allowed him to remove gates from another property we owned to be used in this project. He took 3 gates worth over $200 and never installed those gates for us, being a no-show or claiming an emergency over 5 times. Then he wanted to charge us more than the original contract. We fired him for breach of contract and he still refused to issue us the $40 refund requested, even after we said he could keep the $200 gates. We had to dispute it with our credit card company. She paid him half down (3,400) of her hard earned money, and was to pay the balance on completion. My sister was working with this man and he began making excuses why he was delayed and now has completely ghosted her. Take the down payment and run? He is now unresponsive and she will never see her money. Take advantage of my 81 year old mother with dementia? This is the absolute lowest form of predatory contracting I've ever witnessed. SCAM ALERT!!! Do not hire this guy or you will be sorry, I am. On 12/21/2020, I hired Chris Auwerter for replacement of soffit that had blown off my house. We entered a contract and I paid him in full, $347.00 upfront for the work he was to do. The contract said he was to complete the work I needed done in 30 days. After hearing excuses about why he wasn't showing up, which included but were not limited to: the weather, his vehicle not starting, no power at his house, the place he was to rent a lift from was not available unless more money given, etc. I decided on 01/29/2021 to part ways with him for Breach of Contract and ask for my money back. Mr. Auwerter agreed, via text message, to refund me in full. Today is 02/15/2021 and I have not received my money back. I sent a text message on 02/05/2021 to inform Mr. Auwerter that he has yet to refund me and he responded on the morning of 02/06/2021 to apologize to me, for he was having "financial problems". I know how it is to be down on your luck so I informed him he had until Wednesday, 02/10/2021 to return my money, in full, or my intentions were to escalate this. His response was to tell me "not to threaten him" and that if I read the contract, technically, he only had to return half of my money. This person is a scam artist and a thief. I have a BBB complaint in, will be calling the police, and will go to court as a matter of principle. This case is simple. Hired Chris to build a fence on my property. Chris signed a contract on August 29, 2019. The fence was to be completed in October. One half of the fee was paid in full with the remainder due upon completion of the project. The project was never started. Contract not honored. My money was not returned and I was told it was spent and gone! I spent 2 weeks tracking him down via phone calls, texts and emails only to be told he could not do the work and he was sorry but my money was gone. I filed a police report and now have to go through the process of small claims court, Contractor Registraur, South Dakota Better Business Bureau, etc. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!
