My 2 younger daughter s were in store with me and are animal lover s so we were warned to not to touch the one dog so they didn't. My daughter was over looking at sweater s and the dog was laying under that table and lady rude to my wife and my daughter about the dog. At first I thought it was just an "antique" shop but it was really a singularly owned shop where the owner sells all kinds of locally made products from soaps, clothing and household goods/accessories. The items were labeled with the contact info of the local vendors that made the products which I thought was really neat. I like supporting local vendors and if you like that concept as well then you just may find some of the items in this shop appealing to you. On Route 28 in Arkville, NY, hubs and I have found great Magic antique+vintage pieces at a serious bargain. These folks have been here as long as I've been coming up to the Catskills when the entire field was FILLED elbow-deep with vendors. They've dwindled over the years and you can count the stalls with your hand now. Regardless, spend a few solid hours just browsing through what they have because you'll find a piece or two that'll catch your eye with the limited supply. One particular vendor name Lou- who we've purchased from- used to have loads of vintage pieces- and somehow sold commercial cleaning supplies (brand new) for cheap. Bizarre mix for an outdoor flea market- but it has worked. Another vendor who we met on a Sunday name Federika(sp?) sold me a $30 heavy-a-f*ck mirror that I couldn't pass up. I also couldn't haggle with that. For the poundage on it, I swore it was at least $75 or more. Oh, and bring cash- because these folks most likely, not have a Square.

Would not have predicted that a shoe and boot store that we chanced into while in the area, is one of the best of its kind that I've been in anywhere, but it is : ) Much, much better than any we could have gone to we would have gone to back home in Brooklyn or anywhere in NYC. A large and well curated selection of outdoor wear, including a better selection of non-leather/all man made material than I've probably ever seen in one place. The owner could not have been more friendly and accommodating to us all, poorly organized and uncoordinated shopping units that we are, and the prices were a pleasant surprise to me. Extremely reasonable, no sticker shock, which I always expect and accept as part of buying things while on vacation and also my own lack of embracing the fact I still think it's 1982 when I look at what things cost. I usually like a boot and then put it back down after seeing the label, but not here. Buying shoes is generally a negative experience for me, much less when the whole family is involved, but I had a great time today and at least 5 stars to Foothills Shoe and whoever is responsible (Pretty sure it was the gentleman who was our salesperson). In all seriousness, especially if buying shoes is torture for you, this is the best outdoor wear shoe and boot store you will run into.
