I so wanted the fish and chips to be delicious!!The chips yes! The fish was greasy and we both found bones. Very cute storefront and friendly people. This is a cash only business and find your own seating. We took our order to go, and were asked if we wanted salt and vinegar added to both "yes please " then he wrapped them in paper. I was concerned our food would be cold when we got to our destination, but I was pleasantly surprised. Both were still piping hot!! The fries were perfect-crispy on the outside soft in the middle. This is as authentic and fresh as it gets. The fish was so delicate, flaky, fresh and all held together with a light crisp batter. Nice and hot on a cold day. Shoppe is located down in a little enclave in the charming town of Portree. A couple of outside benches to sit at waterside. Chips were good and it's a generous portion for a good price. You buy the tartar sauce in little packets. Will go back next time we're there. read more

One of the best fish and chips I've had in awhile and at 6.50 GBP, it's also the best value too. Believe me, I've been looking around what the going rate is at the Scottish pubs, ~9.95-14.95 GBP. The fish and chips are evenly sprayed with malt vinegar and it's a big portion - can be shared. Additional condiment packets like ketchup and mayo are extra. Perfect for a quick hot lunch stop. From our tour guide, this is the best place in Portree, make sure you walk down to the harbor by the water, not the place near the ramp. You have to take it outside... This was one of very few food shops open before 5pm when we were in Portree and looking for food. The price wasn't too bad for a fish and chips meal, and the wait was reasonable (only about 10 mins). Unfortunately, however, it was possibly the greasiest fish and chips I've ever eaten. The chips weren't very crispy, and, overall, the meal wasn't very flavorful. Yes! This is one of the best fish and chips shops in all of Scotland. Really. They use vegetable oil, not beef fat like a nearby fish and chip shop uses. (Beef oil does not make fish and chips taste better. It just makes fish and chips taste weird.) They cook both your fish and chips to order so while there may be a bit of a wait, the portions, taste and service are worth it. This is a place where you order at the counter, the man at the counter batters up the fish and dips it into the hot oil while you watch. The fish is a HUGE portion - completely shareable. The chips are partially fried and when the fish comes out to rest, a large amount of chips go into the fryer. Yes, they are double fried - which always makes the perfect chips - crispy and crunchy on the outside, hot and tender on the inside. Once they are both ready, the chips are plated and then the fish is placed on top and if desired, sprayed with malt vinegar and doused with salt - then they are all wrapped up in newsprint. Sauces are extra - but when we came, the man behind the counter gave them to us for free. Extra bonus! Thank you! There is only a small corner area to eat inside, but you are welcome to take it outside and sit by the pier. Even in the rain, the fish and chips are tasty! The seabirds will want some of your food, but remember, breaded fish and chips are not the best for the seabird's diet so please do not feed them. Cash only. This is a stand alone shop and well worth visiting. Do not go to the shop which cooks their fish and chips in beef oil - even if they have a seating area. Do your taste buds good and go here instead! The best fish and chips I have had in my life. Fresh, simple and delightful. They spray the vinegar and use fine salt. Breading was on point, condiments aren't needed. Cash only, and it's a take out spot vs. sitting there. There is a bench across the way if you want to look over the Harbour and enjoy this life changing meal. read more

A great place to visit! The fish and chips were really tasty, and the staff was so super nice!! The only draw back was it was hard to find a place to actually eat. Highly recommend this place for a great lunch. If you love fish and chips this is the place to go, best fish I have ever had. Although very small, lucky to fit four customers standing up. There is no seats in this chip shop but the harbour has a lot of nice benches and walls to watch the sea and eat their wonderful fish and chips on. read more

My husband and I came here because we saw great reviews. However, I was very disappointed. The only good part about the meal were the chips which were delicious. My fish had so many bones in it and they also leave the skin on the fish before they fry it, which I am not used to and it made it taste gross. The batter was nice and crisp though. My husband did not have any bones in his and he enjoyed it, but he also had issues with the skin still being on the fish. I may have just been unlucky, but beware you may have bones in your fish and they leave the skin on the fish so if that grosses you out try another place! read more
