I made a purchase here at The Wood Shop on 3/4/2026 and was surprised to see a 3% credit card fee added, with sales tax applied on top of that fee, which didn't make sense since the surcharge isn't a product or service. I returned on 3/5/2026, less than 24 hours later, simply to switch the payment to a debit card. The biggest issue wasn't that they couldn't do it -- it was how dismissive and unprofessional the staff were. Three employees were standing together chatting and drinking coffee, and their attitude was essentially, "It's written on the machine, so too bad." There was no courtesy, no effort to help, just a very condescending tone. They also claimed that every store in Leavenworth charges a credit card fee, which was untrue. After visiting many restaurants, galleries, shops, and ice cream stores during my three day trip, this was the only place that did. This ended up being my worst customer service experience in Leavenworth, mainly because of how dismissive the staff were. I would not return. read more

Hats are a bit like socks for me. I like finding ones with personality and they can be a great purchase no matter the season. Cubbies full of different hats made for fun shopping with my parents in July 2017 when we were in downtown for some exploring during one of our family reunions in the area. After taking a hard look at the offerings and dwelling on a Seahawks hat, I decided to go with the Indiana Jones hat. The hat fit my head, nice because my head runs a bit on the large side, and had a large brim, which I find to be helpful for sun protection during geology fieldwork. The price was fair, and the workers helpful. At the time I was concerned the hat may be a bit on the thin side for my purposes. Nope. Almost five years later, the hat is still in great condition. I store it with my handmade Polish sheep/goat-herding hat. They have surprisingly similar structure and dimensions. read more

What a unique find. Hats aren't for me, but it was nice to browse their merchandise. They have a toy store attached. It was packed when we stopped by and that made it hard to maneuver through products and customers. They had Legos, dolls, toy cars, and random toys. So look, I hate to play the race card but somebody make it make sense. My guy friend and I were having a casual stroll down the strip and he'd already been a customer, here, so he thought it would be fun to check this place out. We approached the door and realized it was closed before we even got close. So we are looking in the window at the display of eclectic hats enjoying our small talk and this lady completely cuts us off, doesn't go around us or wait. She cuts us off, walk in front of us with no eye contact, she doesn't greet us or say hello, checks to see if the door was locked very animated. Then says, "just checking to see if my doors are locked!" Walks off and doesn't even look back. I've been in business for a long time and I understand a long day but that's not what I felt. She was rude and dismissive and outright offensive. Like, why did she need to do all that ? We weren't standing there for very long at all...we had just got there. And if we wanted to stand there for 60 min, so what?. I'm a potential new customer and my friend has already patronized this business but after this encounter, I don't recommend anyone of color approaching this establishment. The aptly named Hat shop was recommended to us by a friend who has an appreciation for hats of all shapes and sizes! Attached to the wood shop, which sells...you guessed it, future kindling, the hat shop boasts plenty of novelty hats - lots of American flag stuff currently, hats that look like bug heads, scuba diver helmets or Viking helmets, cowboy hats and actual hats for formal events or hilarious ones! It's the only place I've ever been where I could make myself look like a fly, an opera singer and Uncle Sam within a five minute period. The prices are what you'd expect from a novelty shop in a town that thrives on traffic from out of town visitors. Ultimately, we decided we didn't need a $23 American flag themed cat in the hat type hat, but we sure did have a nice time taking pictures with it on! This would be a perfect place to go just before Halloween each year or, if you're a big planner for Halloween on any given year! Even if you're not planning for your next hat related event, this is a really good place to drop by with the kids and try on some hilarious head dressings that will, at a minimum, make for some good selfies! read more

This place wow! I love this place so much. I have been here a couple of times. The times i have been here is so fun. The hats and all the other accessories are just so quirky. Funny hats to try on. They have all kinds of hats. Find one you like. Maybe you need a hat for a costume party? You can find the perfect one for you. Or even a holiday. Need a funny or nice hat they got it. But the worst part about it is that on Oktoberfest things get a little cray cray. I give this place a 5 star because you need a funny, nice, cool, interesting hat. This is your place to go. You go to The Hat Shop, of course. Actually, to be more accurate, you go to the line outside of said shop and wait while the bouncer at the door maintains the flow of what might be the smallest shop in Leavenworth. And for a town full of little nooks and crannies, that's saying something. I finally made it in and bought my (traditional German) hat, and I'm glad I did - I got more compliments on it that weekend. My hat love affair began in this very shop nearly 20 years ago, before the wild craze. I paid a dear price for a favorite hat, complete with a huge feather, and lace trailing down the back. Therefore, every time I am in Leavenworth, I have to go there! I feel blessed that my visit two days ago did not find me having to stand behind the chain. The clerk was helpful!!! My first request for "ladybug" hat was a disappointment, as they had only child sized ones. My next request was for "purple". Yes, I came home with purple and then some - purple with leopard trim!!!! Is it worth it to wait in a line for a hat? A hat that seems like a good idea when you are drunk. A hat that you will only wear once a year if you even remember you have it in your closet. I guess that sort of sums up this store. It's small, it's cute, it's charming. Of course they carry regular hats that you can wear everyday but people come here for the strange and hard to find hats. I was tempted by the nice variety but really didn't have a use for anything. A little too pricey for a silly Halloween hat and I'm just not a hat person. Having a person guarding the store and only allowing in a small number of people also does rub me the wrong way. I understand the whole idea of only letting in what the store can handle but it's just obnoxious. And the people in the store are taking a while trying on everything they see while drunk. I guess this is a bad place to visit when there is a festival. But that's probably the only reason you would be here anyway. Though I didn't really understand the hat with crazy eyes, I loved the Medusa hat. No matter who you've come to Leavenworth with, they'll enjoy the hat shop. They just won't always let you take pictures. The shop is small, but the people are nice, it's neatly organized, and it took over a half-hour for me to start feeling claustrophobic. During the winter during the christmas festival , there is always a line up outside. But if you go during the off season, they have all the same stuff but without all the lines and other people. Good place to check out and spend some time. I do believe the place is a little overrated though. To be fair, they do carry an assortment of amazing hats and costumes, and the staff is always dressed up in the most attractive princess costumes (I almost fell in love with them on first sight.)
