Like most of the shops and boutiques on Front Street, this one is long, narrow, and claustrophobic. You're going to have a difficult time navigating through this one, and more than most others: here you'll find more kids and strollers per square foot than anywhere else in Leavenworth! Still, it's a fantastic shop to find small toys, gifts and stocking stuffers for the littles. Everything from books and games, puzzles, stuffed animals, blocks and bricks, rubber figurines, finger puppets, fidgets, dice, gag gifts and, yes, true to its name, lots of wooden toys in various forms and functions. Need a rubber band gun, or a prop plane powered by a similar elastic engine? This is your place. As someone who has recently become a father for the first time (and maybe this is the curmudgeon in me talking), but toys that provide hands-on, analog stimulation are far more enriching and engaging that the endless, mindless crap spit out by the algorithms behind YouTube and TikTok. The Wood Shop is the kind of store that specializes in the types of toys that were popular before smartphones became the ubiquitous child distraction devices that they are today. We walked through here late Saturday around 6:30 PM. The toddler went in and wanted something but we already had plan to walk to another toy store a block away. The other store shelves seemed bare but they did have plenty of puzzles and we bought one that was age appropriate for the toddler. We told him he can get a fire truck because there wasn't one at the toy store we were at so we came back to this store. He saw the fire truck when he was in briefly before. They were closed but we could see the people inside. Toddler stood at the door crying for the fire truck even though I insisted that we will come back tomorrow and buy it. There is no storage of toys. Anyway the ladies who were working inside saw him crying and reopened the door so we can buy the fire truck. Just wanted to thank you them and how much we appreciated that they reopened the door so we can buy him his fire truck. They made one toddler very happy. Thank you. read more

Standing in front of the door just looking at merchandise through the window the lady inside comes and hits the closed sign on the door which startled my kids. We knew it was closed we were just looking so we stepped back towards the garbage can and another lady comes and slams the sign again! I would be very open to feedback from the company as to why this was handled this way but from my prospective it was very unnecessary. read more

This shop is next door to the Hat Shop. There's an opening that connects both shops. They sell handmade wooden toys as you might have guessed from the name. Some are locally made, and some you can tell were bought from a vendor. The prices are a bit high, but if you like train sets, you're sure to look past the price tag. read more

We vacation to Leavenworth like twice a year. A lady that works there said excuse me and pushed my 7 year old daughter there wasn't anywhere to move to because there is so much stuff in the shop so she was shoved into the display. She didn't apologize to her at all. Instead as soon as we got to the counter to pay she whispered something to the man employee and he took over. I walked over to the lady and said that it was unkind to push a 7 year old and not apologize and the man came over and push our whole family out of the store causing a huge scene and yelling to get out after we had just spent money in there. We will never be back and we will make sure to tell everyone we know. Not a kid friendly shop and very poor customer service. read more

Fun shop. Lots of great toys. Not only cool old fashioned wood toys (which there are plenty of), but lot of fun old-school toys too. Almost no matter what era you were born, it seems they have lots of toys from that time. Love this little shop, our kids enjoy visiting every year. Probably the most exciting shop for them to visit in downtown. Wide selection of toys for all ages. Ranges from little knickknacks, lego sets, puzzles, wooden toys, costumes, crafts, board games, ect. Enough of a selection to keep both our son and daughter interested year after year. This place is also connected to The Hat Shop which is a another great shop for souvenirs and gifts. Can get cramped during the busy holidays but friendly staff. Some items can be a bit pricey but it's what you'd expect in a tourist town. Will return and would recommend. read more

Awesome little toy store for 1yr - 8yr old kids. It's mostly wooden puzzles and blocks but they have some very unique designs and themes. Having a 1yr baby this place has just about anything from pirate, zoo, space, to farm theme of wooden toys. They are also connected to the Hat Shop which has tons of great costume wear. read more

Too much stuff that Boyfriend liked and I didn't. It made my brain hurt. This place has lots of neat kids toys (guns, those metal ring puzzles, yo yos, etc.) but after lunch, wine tastings and shopping, it's a little much. (The toys are marked up, too.) Make sure to hit this shop earlier in the day so you can be a bit more interactive, whether with your kids or kid-like partner, and not to buy unless you're willing to cope with tourist fees. read more

Lots of cute toys and not just wooden toys either. We ventured in here after the wait for the Hat Shop next door was ridiculous. And this store turned out to be a lot more fun. They have a beautiful selection of wooden toys in the front of the shop. Most of them seemed to be for younger kids and were very well made. The back of the store had a lot more selection for older kids and even some fun things that adults could appreciate. Not a mandatory stop but still a nice shop to browse. read more

I remember years ago when this place was a scatterd mess and a dump. There was no rhyme or reason, stuff thrown everywhere.. They have since cleaned it up. It is small, cramped and PACKED. Prices are not cheap, again, tourist town. I love all the wooden puzzles and have a couple of them. There is really nothing else that stands out here. read more

Great place. Good selection of wood toys that you do not see anywhere else. Every tourist town has the same crap which is generally junk made from overseas but these wood toys truly look hand crafted.They are a little pricey but after doing some quick Googling and Amazoning I couldn't find anything close to the quality. They had both my kids names, Elaine and Theo, and I am now kicking myself for not picking them up. Will definitely be grabbing them on the next trip out to Leavenworth.I see reviews here saying that this place use to be a dump and a mess but they must have cleaned things up because it looked very organized to me. Just wanted to give everyone out there a warning before buying any wood puzzles from this shop. We got an octopus puzzle from this shop during our May fest trip to Leavenworth. Exactly one week after purchase during their 2nd time playing with this toy one of the pieces of wood completely broke in half. After numerous calls to the shop to get an exchange I was basically told that they could discount a second one at cost ($13 including shipping when the original was $16!) or to use wood glue to fix it myself. They also gave me some BS about how the younger the child the smaller the puzzle should be and that they use soft wood. That would be fine if this information was provided BEFORE you purchased the product. Anyway if you have normal young children who actually want to play with a toy DO NOT BUY these puzzles. read more
