We were welcomed warmly when we entered and were shown the way to the massage waiting area. We couldn't believe how big this place was. From the outside it looks tiny and unassuming, but WOW! You get in there and it's just like the Tardis! Our therapists provided us with an information sheet to fill out and then took us to our private room. They asked about any previous massages, injuries and ailments, and what we'd like to have focused on today. I was with Mike and my husband was with one of the female therapists, but I can't remember her name. Both were extremely knowledgeable and made sure that we were comfortable for our full hour. It was a great experience and we are both definitely going to be back!

The pedicure room was extremely loud to the point where my esthetician apologized. It wasn't just the customers. It was also 2 specific employees. One was talking loudly about her father passing in hospice. I got the whole story whether I wanted to hear it or not. Most upscale spas have a policy on spa etiquette and enforce it. Ive been coming to interlude since 2009. This was my worst experience. At one point it was so loud and causing me so much anxiety I almost got up and left mid treatment.

I was a frequent client at Karas, both their portland and cole harbour locations. One day I was…read morewaiting for my nail appointment at the portland street location when a loud vulgar argument broke out between two stylists while they had clients in their chairs (who seemed very uncomfortable and quiet with what was happening). I then watched as the supervisor of the salon, who I believe his name was Ed or Eddy something along those lines, yell at the receptionist over the phone until she was almost in tears. I stopped going after watching this encounter and how poorly staff treat each other and how poorly management takes out his anger on reception staff. I would go ANYWHERE ELSE for any services they provide. Poor management will be the downfall of this business

My friend and I booked an appointment at Kara's last week for a pedicure (for her) and manicure…read more(for me). We booked our appointments for 4:45 on a Sunday afternoon at the Portland Street location. The next day, we were informed that the person we'd been booked with wasn't actually working at that time, but could we come in at 1:00 instead? We said sure. A mild inconvenience, but no big deal! On Sunday at 12:15, my friend received a phone call from Kara's asking where we were, since our appointment was at 12:00. No, my friend said, you must be mistaken. We're booked in at 1:00. She was told (very curtly!) that was impossible since there had been someone else booked at 1:00 "forever". The tone was not apologetic whatsoever and nothing was suggested to remedy the situation. Obviously we canceled our appointments and went elsewhere. One scheduling screwup is OK. Two is a bit much. But even then, an offer to reschedule for another day or time slot, or even a simple "I'm sorry, we must have double booked you" to acknowledge the error would go a long way. I can't speak for Kara's facilities because we didn't get a chance to see them, and based on this experience, won't be doing so in the future either. UPDATE! The following Monday, we received a call from the spa manager apologizing for the mixups and offering us a free manicure and pedicure. We very much appreciate this gesture and are looking forward to visiting Kara's soon!
