At the same time the existing North and South Towers were updated with carpeting, lighting and paint. What a great transformation. All the common areas are new. Amities include three restaurants, indoor pool, a state of the art fitness center (with three full time staff members) and a group fitness studio for fitness classes. There are many club activities; art, bridge, canasta, rummy cube, Mexican train, mahjong, history club plus more. Every Tuesday there is a happy hour with food and live entertainment provided by Blakeford. On Fridays there is a happy hour in the Living Room or on the patio, weather permitting. Then one Sunday a month we have a Social Hour 5p to 6p where new residents mingle and meet current residents. You need to visit Blakeford and take a tour. Make sure you see Vista, the 7th floor party room and outdoor patio - - it has a view no other senior communities have. Mary and I have been asked why we chose Blakeford, and not one of the other senior living communities nearby. She acted as if I was dumb and when I went to get the groceries from the car she didn't even give me a cart at all because she "couldn't find it" and I ended up taking all the groceries in by hand. I really hope she's not as disrespectful to the citizens living here as she was to me.

I transferred the patient from wheelchair to recliner however, I needed assistance from staff to help me re-position. The staff came to the room, told patient to stand up and use the walker and position herself on the recliner. He suffers from brain injury after several strokes so rather than try to work with him, they sent him to a hospital once again. The staff are truly exceptional and clearly dedicated to their jobs. Keith in the kitchen has been incredibly helpful and kind every time our family visits, and Reniesha along with many others consistently go above and beyond. The family involvement has made all the difference -- his daughters (my mom and aunt) and one son (my uncle) and I, who live nearby visit at least every other day, and the staff have always been welcoming and supportive of that. The rooms are a perfect size, comfortable and well-maintained. The meals are very well prepared, and I especially appreciate that the daily menu is posted in large print on a chalkboard in the dining room before each meal so residents know exactly what to expect. Even when the team is stretched thin, they remain patient, accommodating, and professional. They offer plenty of interactive activities to keep residents engaged, and the weekly church service is a wonderful touch. I was very quick to leave a review when I felt that they were failing my mother, and so I would also like to say that they are doing something right. They went ahead and prescribed a medication that would take the place of the medication that was taken from her. I want you all to know that the prescribed medication that Iris Medical gave to her has absolutely changed her life....ONE MEDICINE. She is able to stay awake and be active during the waking hours. She feels absolutely amazing and I am so very grateful that Iris has done the right thing.
