At the same time the existing North and South Towers were updated with carpeting, lighting and paint. What a great transformation. All the common areas are new. Amities include three restaurants, indoor pool, a state of the art fitness center (with three full time staff members) and a group fitness studio for fitness classes. There are many club activities; art, bridge, canasta, rummy cube, Mexican train, mahjong, history club plus more. Every Tuesday there is a happy hour with food and live entertainment provided by Blakeford. On Fridays there is a happy hour in the Living Room or on the patio, weather permitting. Then one Sunday a month we have a Social Hour 5p to 6p where new residents mingle and meet current residents. You need to visit Blakeford and take a tour. Make sure you see Vista, the 7th floor party room and outdoor patio - - it has a view no other senior communities have. Mary and I have been asked why we chose Blakeford, and not one of the other senior living communities nearby. She acted as if I was dumb and when I went to get the groceries from the car she didn't even give me a cart at all because she "couldn't find it" and I ended up taking all the groceries in by hand. All they do is review the medial director records and won't even speak to the family or the patient. It's all a scam and they don't give a fuck about their patients. Anyway several of the places I visited mentioned I should reach out to Patriot Angels since he's a Korean War Vet. From the first call to 3-4 months later, EVERY SINGLE person I talked to were FANTASTIC!! Yes, they charge for submitting an application because it is A LOT of paperwork and basically they go up to bat for you with the VA. I admit I was nervous & the wait was long but it was worth it!! My dad got approved because he was a vet during a war time era and wow! What a blessing!! We sold his home & found a great place for him that offers a good size apt with a full kitchen, 3 meals a day in their dining room, a mini gym, pool, theatre, library & more!! There's no possible way reviewing that paperwork is $1500 worth of labor; maybe a thorough review might take 30-45 minutes. Let's be generous and assume that someone spent an hour reviewing documents. That's a pretty good hourly rate. Then my father died. So, no refund. I do believe PA is a legit org, but their business model requires you to hope your vet doesn't die anytime soon.
