This is a huge warehouse type place with big racks of leather (all kinds). Good prices! They mostly carry things for saddle/bridle, purses etc or fur coats. they have a lot of tools, auls, free hand punches, lacing, punch boards, lots of stuff I didn't know what it was. My boyfriend and I were eager to visit this place after finding it through Yelp, and made it a prime stop on our sight-seeing road trip through Napa. So, there I was...standing in the entry to this place; elbow-deep in the scrap bin of discounted cuts of leather looking for the perfect piece. I had never been there before and was told that it is the best source of leather for guys like me looking for bits smaller than a quarter hide for the project i was working on. I was looking for enough leather to make the Star Lord boot spats as well as the belt that Chis Pratt wore in The Guardians of the Galaxy and I finally broke down and just picked up a half hide in a weight and color I thought appropriate. After a long amount of time had passed, I finally got around to doing the belt and boot-spat part of this complex costume build only to discover that what I had picked up was too thick for my sewing machine to handle, even with a denim needle. Apparently, what I needed was something 2mm thick and softer. ..Something I can cut, boil and then send the denim needle through, (for the belt). I show up again, but the warehouse was toppled - not the building but all the racks. Earthquake country out here in California can be kind of dangerous and thank god this quake occurred early in the morning, otherwise someone would have gotten crushed. But like pros, these people were running their business and climbing over the inconvenience that Mother Nature dished out to them. I picked up a few more scraps from the bin and took them back to my house to discover I chose poorly again. too thick...that's okay. I used it as part of the knapsack and it worked out very well. During my most recent visit I discovered that there were more scrap bins out in the parking lot! Oh joy! I found the thickness and color with very little difficulty, especially considering the fact that this stuff weighs quite a lot and to get to the bottom of these bins would be a project in-and-of itself. A calorie burning one, too, as the morning sun beats RIGHT down on these bins...Note to self...bring market umbrella and a sorting table for the next visit.... At the end of the day, I still had questions regarding exactly what weight I need to complete my project. What really amazes me about this place is how friendly and helpful everyone is. Take Kim, for instance; I showed her my Star Lord Reference image book and pointed to the thickness of the leather for the boot spats as well as the belt and as it turns out, they're both the same thickness. She was patient and kind through my inquiries as I took notes right onto the image sheet I was using and did it all with a smile. (of course that may be because I told her *why* I'm making this costume. (visit kids in the hospital pediatric ward just like Chris Prat did after the movie wrapped shooting) Bottom line: ========= If you are a business looking for leather for...well...pretty much anything, these people are who you wanna' work with because; "...over 1,000 leathers IN STOCK for shipping within 48 hours" Hit their 'About' link, you'll see what I'm talking about. Have always wanted to start getting my leather from this business, I am not from the area and decided to add an extra two hours to my trip to stop into this place during business hours. Everyone was on the phone, no one greeted me or offered to help me. Which was what I wanted, I have been scared to order online and so i thought coming in and talking with them would help that. Totally worth the drive from SF if you know what you want. Everyone who worked here was really nice and they let me spend a lot of time in the warehouse even though I was only expecting to buy one hide. Ended up drooling over some baby blue leather and shearling and buffalo hides and ... anyways I'll be back for sure. If I could give more stars on my rating I would. I have a small leather bag line and have been in business for three years. I have dealt with many leather distributors and houses and I have never been treated better than here. In the past I have reluctantly bought leather from houses that treat me poorly, take my money and have little or no realization that I want to buy leather from them, in large amounts, consistently. Worst company ever! 2 times they sent me the wrong leather. The first time they had the audacity to charge me for it and not give me my money back for leather I didn't order. The 2nd time they gave me the wrong leather again and make me wait over 2 weeks for leather I requested needed it shipped next day. Worst company ever... Shanee must be brain dead. I ordered and they shipped half my order and charged me double what the order said it would be. Come to find out later they added what ever they wanted shipping... So I got half the order called and asked about it not complaining can you ship out what you didn't. We are out.. We can refund or ship something else.. Ok I give options and she offers an economy at not weight i wanted.. I said OK. Now I get a $150 bill. I email that night and she said what I thought you ordered it. I said send me an RA and a return label I'm done. A week later they have the leather and I hear nothing so I email again. Its a lengthy process she says and has lots of people involved for accuracy. Now they refund me a little less than half. Im sure it is for the half that I sent back... Remember I only got half. Run don't buy here.. Not sure where the positive comments come from here but they have to be employees. If I could give less than one star I would. 2/3 the way into this screw up I include Rob the president. I have heard nothing from him. read more

I needed several large pieces of leather for a project, and the Hide House had the best prices I could find online. I was concerned when I went to order from their website and found that I had to complete the order without knowing what the shipping costs would be. The positive Yelp reviews reassured me that this place was on the level, but I didn't want to write a "blank check" without knowing the full costs, so I left a note to contact me about the shipping costs before finalizing the order. Well, I may have been ordering online, but by the end of the process I felt like I had visited the store in person: they were very communicative over the phone, and the customer service was prompt, friendly, thorough, and honest. I have a very small leather business/hobby and I wouldn't be able to do it without Hide House. I get the absolute best quality items at very fair prices. Because my products go side by side with items made in Pakistan for a fraction of the cost they have to look and feel a whole lot better when people are browsing, and they do. If I had to raise my prices or the quality was lower I'd be out a job. I'm truly a minor bleep on their financial radar (I spend $500-$1000 a year there), but they always treat me well. Maybe they're too busy to focus a lot of attention on me anyway, but I like that fact that I can browse for hours deciding which particular hides I want without feeling pressured to get out of the way. Still, I've never been made to feel like I was an intruder when I needed help or advice. In spite of my area's high rent, if my business becomes bigger I'll still need to live close enough to be able to access their warehouse so that I can still visit the place personally.
